The film is a modern love story of a concierge and the misused mistress of a wealthy man. Dough Ireland (Michael J. Fox) is the concierge at the Bradbury, one of New York's most exclusive hotels. Dough is a fine concierge, rather the best that can ever be, he can sort out any problems of the wealthy guests of Bradbury, from acquiring a pair of seats for the hottest show on Broadway to arranging a private helicopter to whisk the guests to their appointments. However Dough has a dream - a dream to build his own luxury hotel. His dream starts to take shape or so he assumes when he meets Christian Hanover (Anthony Higgins), a wealthy investor.
Christian agrees to front the money provided Dough attend to certain duties like taking care of his young mistress (baby-sit) Andy Hart (Gabrielle Anwar), while he plays his usual marital game of keeping a clean image to present in society and in particular to his wife. Andy's dream on the other hand is of becoming a singer but she gets romantically involved with Hanover and puts love before career.
Dough while performing his duties of 'baby-sitting' to Andy begins to develop feelings for Andy. He soon starts to reconsider the deal he has with Hanover, for he realises that he has been losing his self respect in the process, especially so before Andy. Finally the film ends on a happy note. Michael J. Fox plays the lovable concierge Dough very comfortably while Gabrielle Anwar seems to be miscast for the role of Andy Hart. Overall it is an enjoyable film.
