While and even after watching this movie, you wonder what this movie is after all about. Whether it is about Hindu-Muslim unity, or about "Swades", or about Ramleela or about a black monkey. There is hardly
any central story or theme or plot. They have tried to mix too many unrelated threads which ends up looking like a patchwork.
A desi lad(Abhishek Bachchan) comes to India for a few days to drop his grandmother(Vahida Rehman) at his home in Chandni Chowk(this locality is Delhi-6). Sonam Kapoor is their neighbour. The first half mainly revolves around showing the various characters in the Delhi-6 area and the typical congeneal traditional ambience prevailing there in which all sorts of people including Hindus, Muslims etc. live together happily. Occassionaly few scenes of Ramleela are thrown in rather wantonly. News channels are shown constantly warning about a black monkey who has supposedly created mayhem in that locality by his latest attacks on human beings. Parents of Sonam Kapoor want her to get married against her will, but she loves Abhishek. Hence they mutually decide to elope one night. Meanwhile the tensions between Hindus and Muslims created by some selfish politically active elements lead to a riot. On the night of eloping, Abhishek disguises himself as "the black monkey" to conceal his identity and tries to escape with Sonam. But a furious mob spots and kills him taking him to be the real black monkey.
