Cinematography:

Finally, the wait is over-our favorite legendary actor Rajinikanth's film Coolie is out in cinemas, and I had the opportunity to watch the first-day, first-show. Directed by Kanagraj and produced by the renowned Sun Pictures, the movie revolves around a mysterious man who confronts a corrupt syndicate exploiting workers in a port town. Coolie is no doubt Rajinath's explosive comeback in Bollywood won my heart with its excellent story. It explores the blend of intense action, emotional depth, and classic Rajani flair into the screenplay.

The Story:

The movie revolves around a man, Deva(Rajnikanth) lives in a mansion and manages it while residing in one of its rooms. He visits his Friend Rajashekhar( Sathyraj)'s home after hearing about his death. He has three daughters, the eldest being Preethi(Shruti Haasan), who didnt like Devas presence. Deva suspects foul play and believes that his beloved friend has been murdered. He vows to search for the Culprit and take revenge.

Meanwhile, Simon(Nagarjuna) runs a large-scale export business whose close aide Dayal(Saubin Shahir) oversees operations with an iron grip, involved in illegal activities. A few undercover cops join the labour force, only to be brutally eliminated by Dayal. They had been in contact with Rajashekhar before his death. This link led Deva to enter their empire in search of truth.

Performances:

Rajnikath, the lead actor of the movie, has again been overwhelmed by his signature style and energy, and Nagarjuna, being a villain, delivered a composed yet menacing performance. Soubin Shahir was also no less than anyone, and did a rare and powerful negative role that he fully capitalizes on. Apart from them, Shruti Hasan looked graceful and delivered a strong performance in her limited yet appealing scenes. Also, Pooja Hegde added glamour to the narratives, and Cameos by Amir Khan and Upendra fit well into the story.

Technical Aspect:

Lokesh Kanagaraj has shown his strong command over mass action storytelling once again. His character framing is outstanding, and surprisingly, the absence of a traditional love track or duet doesnt feel like a loss. The visuals and background music added mood and momentum to every crucial sequence. Also, the cinematography and editing are spot on. Although some moments felt slightly stretched. But overall good.

Whats good, whats bad in the movie:

Although Rajnikanth's swag won the screen with some standout flashback sequences, the first half seems uneven. Nagarajuna impressed with his power-packed performance, but was sidelined later. But Anirudhs music added a punch, especially the song Chikitu. The narrative seemed borrowed from Vikram and nods to Baashha and Jailer. Also, Shrutis acting in the movie, I felt, is noteworthy, though she was present in selected scenes; her acting and impressions were spot on.

Final Verdict:

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Coolie has successfully combined Rajnikanths energetic acting with Lokeshs dark action universe. Nagarjuns negative character and Shahirs acting brought freshness to the screen. Overall, with its impactful storytelling, well-executed twist, and fabulous background music and editing, the movie has successfully risen above its minor flaws and delivers a thrilling mass entertainer, which is worth watching.
