Packet Tracer is an old fashioned monitoring tool from Cisco, it's good to monitor your live network traffic, with complete visibility of your traffic with respect to source, destinations, packets send/receive and used protocols. Cisco has recently added redesign packet tracer with respect to next generation Data Centers with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure ACI with name of "Atomic Counter", this is also doing same things but with some more advanced features like greater visibility of traffic in graphs, lost packets, complete topology map etc
