This is another typical John Woo film. It is simply excellent. It stars John Travolta and Christian Slater. Travolta a senior officer in the army is disgruntled because he gets passed over for promotion. He decides to get even. He manages to steal two nukes. Slater who is a protégé of Travolta has to stop him. He is helped by a Park Ranger who is the female lead in the film. In the end he manages to prevent the sell off of the nukes. But that’s beside the point.
The stunts in this film are superb. Travolta sets off a nuclear bomb. The bomb is placed in a mine 2000 feet below. The explosion has been shown wonderfully whether it is the trembling of the earth and the ripples or waves created as sand layers run over each other. It is terrific. All electronic equipment as we all know cannot work due to the radiation. This results in the crash of a helicopter. The highlights of this film are the technical finesse and wizardry. Apart from that lover boy Travolta from Grease plays a baddie for the first time. Christian Slater looks cool as ever. The climax sequence is slick. The entire movie sort of floats along without any jerks. There are the usual wisecracks and all.
Overall it is a must see.
