Detailed Review of Asian Paints Beautiful Homes.

Asian Paints' venture into home interiors and renovations is at best at amateur level. They lack the necessary expertise and staff to deliver quality work. Despite charging a premium, their services are poor quality, with defects, inconsistencies, and poor functionality. Specifically, the company pushed unnecessary renovations, such as replacing bathroom pipelines that were in good condition. We contacted Asian Paints' Beautiful Homes Services(AP-BHS) for a facelift of our 7 year old flat. The quick response from their sales team is noteworthy. However, the quotation for extensive work on our 3BHK home, amounting to Rs. 6.24 Lakhs, seemed impressive at the beginning but ultimately led to disappointment in the end.

They lack the basic ability to plan the steps of their tasks. The quality of the end product is painfully poor, exhibiting defects in functionality, inconsistencies, and significantly impacts its usability. In the multiple scope of work that we gave them they failed to meet expected quality levels in all areas.

There was a significant increase in the quote from Asian Paints' Beautiful Homes Services(AP-BHS), with the revised quote rising by nearly 1 lakh, bringing the total to Rs. 7.22 Lakhs. The increase was due to AP-BHS realizing they had missed some items in the initial quote, but the revised quotes were difficult to compare due to line-item changes. After paying the 15% booking amount on the revised quote, the design team showed a virtual rendering and walked us through materials at their experience center.

During this process, we had specified our preferences for simple, elegant furniture designs and requested features like 45-degree finger grooves instead of handles. We also found that AP-BHSs charges for some work, such as painting and trims, were much higher than other market players, leading us to remove these items from the scope of work. The intermediate quote, after removing these items, rose to Rs. 9.26 Lakhs, an increase of 2 lakhs. Despite finding discrepancies in pricing and scope changes, we still hoped that AP-BHS, being a well-known brand, would deliver good results.

The work was supposed to start on 23-Sep but was delayed to 4-Nov. In the meantime, AP-BHS kept sending revised quotes with increased rates. To manage costs, we removed several items from the scope, including foyer furniture, wallpaper, and lighting. After multiple iterations and escalations, the final quote was Rs. 7.25 lakhs.

They made us vacate the flat on 4-Nov. Same day whole house floor protection was done by Greenopathy, arranged by AP-BHS and paid directly by us.

We gave the painting work to Urban Company, Trims and beading to Walls & Ceiling and we procured lights directly.

Despite assurances of a project manager ensuring smooth coordination of the overall execution, the reality turned out to be entirely different.

Demolitions, plumbing, mason, electricals, Wall chipping everything was outsourced to a vendor partner. The project manager of AP-BHS would visit the site ones in a few days only for 10-15 minutes and then forward photos shared by the vendors on our WhatsApp group. We had to supervise the project everyday as the AP-BHS project manager was largely missing.

Demolition and other tasks were outsourced to vendors, with the project manager only visiting occasionally. Therefore we had to monitor the site daily, reporting issues like workers leaving early or waiting for materials. The project manager also used our parking space to store debris for 18 days, despite agreeing to pay a daily fee if it exceeded 3 days, which was only paid after escalation.

Summary of Events & Issues:

Bathroom Work Issues: Completely wrong set of tiles were laid. Joint Spacer requirements were not followed. Concealed flush tank was 200 cms bigger than approved plan. Big flush tank, small and low vanity sink, wide mop holder unitour newly constructed bathroom looked uglier than before.

Wash Basin and Fittings: The wash basin was installed incorrectly without measuring the wall outlet, causing the bottle trap to not fit. Instead of correcting it, a flexible tube was used Jugad. Additionally, the original fittings had been misplaced. The granite vanity top was broken in 4 pieces and they had almost installed it when we raised complaint about it. The finished edges are rugged, uneven widths and chipped in several placed that is visible. It has become a daily eyesore for us. Commode broke and came off the wall in the first use. Flush tank took several complaints to get fixed correctly. It was evident that they did not have expertise to install their own products.

Wall and Ledge Issues: The walls chipped for electrical work were left bumpy and not concealed properly, requiring further chipping. The ledges in the dining hall were poorly made with uneven thickness.

TV unit issues: The wall was chipped multiple times to conceal wiring. The ledge height appeared too high, and it was later revealed that the designer had raised the TV height in the design document without consulting us. After the initial chipping, the design had to be revised and sent back to the execution team. They re-chipped the wall but mistakenly placed the electrical box at the same height as the ledge, necessitating further corrections. In the end, they had to chip the wall for a third time to fix the issue.

False ceiling issues: The project was delayed due to material issues, with the false ceiling work taking 2 extra weeks. Once started, one side of the ceiling fell, and the finish was wavy, not smooth. This was noticed by the painting team from Urban Company, who also pointed out that the chipped walls were poorly done and not deep enough to conceal pipes, leading to additional rework. The painting team became frustrated with the poor planning and execution from AP-BHS, causing huge delays and additional work.

Repeated mistakes despite warnings: Incorrect sink installations, shifting electrical lines, incorrect false ceiling, and wrongly placed lights. Sinks were leaking water through the joints, Improper grouting. Electrical lines not connected properly leaving safety issues. There are still gaps between the bathroom floor tiles

Damage to personal property. Floor tiles broken, leather sofa torn, tiles scratched and stole items like kitchen goods, bathroom fittings, lights, foot stools.

When complaints were made, the team lied and shifted blame, even sabotaging work assigned to another vendor(Livspace).

Safety Concerns and Unresolved Issues: The team took the house key, jeopardizing safety. The customer care team failed to address issues effectively, simply redirecting complaints to the execution team. When the project manager was confronted, he responded dismissively about email complaints.

Even in February 2025, there are still unresolved issues, including faulty TV unit drawers with push-to-open mechanisms, which the designer insisted on despite the known problems with this option. Other teams confirmed that soft-close mechanisms would have been better. The TV unit drawers still take a lot of our attention as they refuse to close and required 5-7 attempts to close them.

Utility Area Renovation Failures: The utility area renovation involved shifting electrical lines, installing new granite, and relaying tiles. Despite warnings, water leakage was noticed around the sink, affecting the washing machine. It took multiple complaints and several attempted fixes, finally the issue was resolved by Urban Company technicians.

Unfulfilled Promises and Unpaid Charges: AP-BHS agreed to cover certain costs that was(bottle trap fixing, grouting, lock change) but has not paid after the claim. The customer care team remains unresponsive to ongoing issues, especially with the TV unit drawers.
