I had minimal amount of edema in my right feet and doctor Sunder Narasimhan of Apollo said that this is due to varicose veins issue and suggested that EVLT will provide full relief. So, I went ahead with the said operation where EVLT was performed on the area between knee and groin, and sclerotherapy between feet and knee on both the legs. I never had any edema on the left feet or leg.
Doctor asked me to wear compression stockings for a period of 3 months. One and a half months after the operation, I started to have more edema not just in the feet, but upto the knee on the right leg. When I consulted Dr Sunder Narasimhan again, he said that I need to wear compression stockings for ever.
I have been wearing compression stockings and the moment I remove the stockings, right leg becomes fat within minutes.
When I consulted another doctor by name Divakar Bhat of Aster Hospital, he said that EVLT was unnecessary and that edema in my leg was due to Lymph node issue and not due to varicose veins or anything else. Dr Divakar Bhat referred me to another doctor Dr Manajit Patil (Surgeon) of Aster Hospital who asked me to undergo Lymphosyintigraphy test. This test confirmed that this is indeed a lymph node issue and for the time being he suggested that I use Lympha pump for upto 6 months and also continue the use of the medicine Hetrazan.
So, my advise to all is that some doctors have targets to complete just like businessmen and they may suggest anything. The EVLT operation costed me around 2.25 Lakhs, and this only aggrevated the issue. The other person associated with Dr Sunder Narasimhan was Basil, and they were just talking about cost and how they could perform EVLT for both the legs at the cost of performing them on one leg. There was total lack of ethics. Even my discharge summary does not have the Doppler scan report that should have been performed on my legs before performing the EVLT.
Dr Sheela Chakravarthy of Fortis had earlier suggested that the edema in my right leg was due to lymph node issue which could have been caused by Filariasis. I had advise from other doctors post the operation and they also mentioned that this was indeed due to lymph node issue and it had nothing to do with varicose veins.
So, my advise is to all is that once someone has done something without much diagnosis and reports, but was only interested in creating a source of income for himself or the hospital, it is for people to AVOID them.
