I have worked at Accenture full time for 3 years and 8 months. I joined in 2010 after completing B.Tech. After induction and orientation programs, all the employees are supposed to go through soft skills training followed by technical training.
The soft skills training was more of a team building activity wherein people get to know each other. It involved a lot of group activities and I enjoyed going through the process. The tryst starts when one gets into the technical training period. First of all, you are randomly allotted to a technology/skill set without asking for your preference. You have no say on the same and cannot chose to be trained on technology that you are penchant to. They don't even consider merit for assigning an individual to a particular skill set. So basically they have hired you and will now treat you as they want to.
Seldom do they think that this decision of theirs can ruin someone's long term goal. You are bound to undergo training for the technology that you have been allotted. So it is like this - "I wanted to work on SAP technology and they have randomly given me Manual testing. I have to live with it now" What's worse is that if you have joined as a fresher, you cannot ask for a technology change before 18 months. Even after that, the chances are less. Location wise also, they are very adamant.
You cannot ask for relocation to a preferred city until and unless you have completed 18 months in the organization. Coming to compensation, they are just average and not a paymaster. They pay the same to freshers as their competitors despite their reputation as a giant in software world.
I am not talking about the people who are working here but the company policies. Although there has been recent changes in the appraisal and performance cycle processes, there is a lot more to life than that. You may love the company after 4-5 years when you reach a level of repute, but to reach there - it takes a lot!
