I've found a great solution to a really difficult (and quite gross) problem - cat puke stains.
I'm sure anyone with cats will know what I'm talking about. Cats tend to get hairballs and then along with the undigested hair they choke up comes the remains of their last meal. By the way, does anyone know why cat food manufacturers insist on using orange dyes in something that so often ends up on your carpet??? I know that's not the natural color of all the ground up stuff (don't want to really know what it is)they put in cat food.
Anyway, Science Diet makes a cat food called ''Sensitive Stomach'' and that tends to decrease hairballs quite a bit. Along with that, their are several hairball remedies on the market that help quite a bit also if you can get them into your cat (not easy to get something the consistency of melted Vaseline on your finger and stick it in your cat's mouth). I've heard cod liver oil also works well, but I can't get my cats to touch the stuff. If all this fails and you still get cat puke on your carpeting, there is help.
After cleaning up the chunks (really disgusting but necessary), mix about 1/8 of a scoop of Oxy Clean in 16 ounces of warm water and generously wet the stain. You then want to blot up as much of the water as possible with a white or color-fast rag. You may need to repeat. To get even better results, get a Bissell Spot Lifter. This is a great little machine! It sucks water out of the carpeting really well and eliminates the need to scrub your carpeting. While I haven't yet found the perfect answer to the problem of cat puke, I've absolutely never found anything better at removing stains from carpeting.
