The Lalit at Barakhamba Road in New Delhi is one of the topmost luxury hotels in the city and commands a premium price for its services. Its prime location and a reputed past makes it one of the expensive accommodations options in the city. It is, then, only natural to expect premium services here. However, my experiences with this hotel have been mixed.
The hotel is a nice property, however, it needs some renovation now especially the rooms. The staff, on the whole, is pretty warm and friendly and they serve you with a smile. However, I did not have a good experience with the receptionist here the last time. I asked her about a non-smoking room in the hotel, however, she blatantly refused my request and told me that all the rooms here are smoking ones. Finally, she offered me a room that had the non-smoking zone tag and when I entered the room, the smell of smoke hit me hard. I asked her about this and she was clueless. I had to wait for the smoke to come out of the room before I entered it.
The room was not well-lit and the furniture seemed old. The towels in the bathroom were in worn-out condition, even the faucets were leaky. The wardrobe did not have enough hangers in it, which was a huge problem for me. The shower too was not in a good condition, as it angled towards a different direction. Some of the plug points were not working fine as well. The bathroom fittings were rusty and looked like as if they would fall off any time.
However, the biggest issue with the hotel was the food. The quality of the food and the beverage is very low in comparison to its prices. They served me a bowl of porridge and a poached egg. The Porridge dish was very thin and the poached egg felt dry and uncooked at times. Even the food at the Grill restaurant was way too spicy and overpriced.
The hotel needs to revise its pricing system given its inadequate services, especially the food and the beverage have to improve.
