Boasting about the Simplicity
Apr 29, 2003 02:29 PM 2739 Views

To give this add a rating we need to study a bit logically..

Lets look into the script....

''Three people falling of the roof (Dressed like crazy people...trying to make fun of the dress up of models fo Dew)....

''Aaaaaaaaiiiii wanna do mannnn''....

Ye kya keh rahe hai....

ye keh rahe hai ki inhe karna hai....

Oh!...no do yahan...do vahan ..jhari ke peechhe (snap shot of people peeing behind the jhari)

...I don wanna do!!!!!''''

What exactly this mean?????

Advertisement...means selling of some idea...convey some theme...

Lets see what exactly is the concept or the story this add wanna sell. It wants to tell that people who r crazy would like to go for a drink which they r comparing with''.....'' (Something manufactured jhari ke peechhe....)

So the motive for entire story

  1. The other product (Dew) is like ''.....''which is manufactured jhari ke peechhe

  2. Only crazy people can demand for other product (Dew)..

Then comes up the punch line...''Sprite..all taste ..no gyan''..

It has been the strength of Sprite to mock the hype which other products create in the market about there own product or to mock the product itself and then to put the their simple theme with the simplicity ''All Taste ..No Gyan''..I agree that a lot of creativity goes for creating something like that also but is it worth putting creativity in pulling someone's leg ..i have my own reservations

What they wanna tell is that they r not attaching any buzz word or the concept with the product...its totally WRONG...their buzz word is ''Simplicity'' and they always promote that ...

But can simplicity go anytime with boasting about simplicity....So as per me they are defeating their own buzzword somewhere

Well whatever is the case Modesty which has to go along with simplicity...is totally absent from the theme as every time Sprite adds cry out or ''boast in a big way that they r simple''

So entire add. has been created to make fun of other product rather than talking about ur own product. I feel its a serious case of killing business ethics and negative marketing...

For it.. all I have to say is ''Apna kila banaiye par doosaron ki laashon par nahi''...

i mean..

If u want.. Make ur own castle but dont make it on dead bodies of others

Spite

Hey! A lot of us were feeling that MouthShut was stagnating a wee bit, what with their staff not adding any new category. They took note (obviously after indulging in introspection and getting feedback from some loyal members) and added ‘Television Commercials’ to their list. Cool!

There’s something with the Sprite ad campaigners. They love to spite competitors. Remember, the Pepsi commercial featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar and how they tore it to shreds. Apart from invoking a few guffaws, that commercial with its punch line “All taste, no gyaan” did nothing to promote the product itself.

This time again the Sprite ad campaigners have gone ahead and parodied the Mountain Dew commercial. The punch line “All taste, no gyaan” remains intact and so does the pinch line.

In the Moutain Dew commercial we had four young men, ostensibly bored with their existence, finally attaining the much-required nirvana (read excitement) by drinking Mountain Dew. Not that I was a big fan of that bit of creative outburst (pun intended), but I still feel that the Sprite guys should not have tried to caricature it. Again, there is no harm in making parodies. However, the only motive of the Sprite ad campaigners seems to be making fun of their competitors.

So, if Mountain Dew had some young men screaming their lungs out – “I want to do”, the Sprite campaign has four buffoons falling from the roof of a country bar and hollering, “I want to do.” The bar owner (played by Virendra Saxena) asks a man who is peacefully sipping his Sprite as to what these guys exactly want. He tells him, “Yeh karna chahte hain.” At this the bar owner orders the lads to “do bahar.” The next shot is of the four guys piddling in a bush. Yuck! So much for good taste, and they claim “All taste ….”. The commercial ends with the shot of one of the buffoons saying, “I don’t want to do.”

Guys! This is not creativity but pure and simple mud slinging. Come on, do we have to throw dirt at each other every time one of our competitors comes up with an idea that is, if not praiseworthy, at least noteworthy?

Sprite is as of now, promoting a lot of Spite.
