Sillunu Oru Kadhal Movie Movie Reviews

I love Aishu more
Mar 01, 2024 07:08 AM 1046 Views (via Mobile)

The film's great..the song Munbe Vaa is just mind blowing. This is not a review though. These are just my feelings and thoughts on the movie. Spoilers ahead

I am more in love with Gawtham and Aishu than with Gautham and Kundavi. I think it's because we didn't get to see Gawtham and Kundavi fall in love with each other. In the next scene of their marriage, you see them being a family and having a child. You just don't spring a happy relationship out of the blue. It needs to be built. If you take the case of Gawtham and Aishu's romance, it's built perfectly. The budding romance, song everything.

After reading Gawtham's diary, Kundavi is sad. She's not angry, she just wants to avoid him. She's probably dealing with the fact that her husband's got an ex lover and loved her dearly. He tells in his diary "Even one day lived with her would feel like a century" and Kundavi realizes that her husband might still love his ex lover. After all he married Aishu in his college years.

The film's major flaw was in making the viewers feel like "Yes. Gawtham still loves Aishu". If this movie is something that really happened in real life I bet the man still loves his ex lover very much. Essentially you must not have any regrets in life. You had a lover today and supposeby fate you couldn't get together and then you have a wife years later, you shouldn't be thinking about your ex, you should have moved on by then and should be happy at the place you've reached. Instead we feel like "Ok. Gawtham loves his wife. True. But he loves his ex lover/ex wife more." Especially the part where Kundavi imagines what might have happened between Gawtham and Aishu.

I cried at the part where Gawtham and Aishu hug each other in Kundavi's imagination. Their love feels so much real. So much more passionate. Like they love each other very much. And who doesn't love a romance that lasts a lifetime? Even if they don't get together. Especially if two people who really love each other but don't get to be together.

A woman's love for a man will die when she finds that her man still loves his ex. She should just leave him so that he'll figure out everything and make up his mind about his goddamn priorities. If a man with a wife is hung up on his ex, they should have an open conversation to truly move on. If that doesn't work, it means that the man and his wife had no love between them in the first place.

Suppose this movie happened in real life, it is more likely that Gawtham would still be hung up on Aishu and doesn't love Kundavi that much. All she'll be able to do is tolerate her husband and his love for his ex. If that's the case hiding won't help much. Hiding something doesn't help with anything. Please, people, be open about your past relationships with your new lover or with your wife or husband. Whoever wrote this story had a similar experience to this. They still love their ex and wants to have one day of happiness with them. And this person is probably going to love their ex till the end of his life. He's stuck on what he experienced and doesn't probably get the same from his wife(yeah..I said what I said). The director and the crew made it seem like Gawtham and Kundavi have a great love at the end of the movie. But I think it's only done because it's Suriya and Jyothika and they were in a real relationship at the time. Wouldn't want to put a bad image on such big stars. The reality of the story would be totally different.

Hats off to the character of Bhumika. She was absolutely perfect for the role!

I just remembered a line said by Gawtham to Kundavi at the end of the movie on why he hid that he had an ex lover. He says that a woman cannot tolerate her husband's love being shared with another girl. It means that Gautham still loves Aishu.

To be frank, they (Gawtham and Kundavi)are not in a happy place. He still loves Aishu. To move on to the future means leaving your past behind including the feelings associated with it. But that never happens. At the end of the movie it shows that Gawtham loves Kundavi, but how can we believe it if we don't see it in action? Is it just that Suriya and Jyothika lacks chemistry on-screen? Or they don't try to build it up in the first place?

This movie is a total waste of 2 1/2 hours. The central plot of this movie is about the relationship between Surya, Jothika and Bhoomika (especially the one between Bhoomika and Surya), but hardly any attention is shed on this side of the story. The flashback does'nt sound convincing at all, I mean Bhoomika gets married to Surya and does'nt make an attempt to search for Surya ? The Surya-Bhoomika meeting after she returns from Australia is'nt picturised either, instead she writes a letter. Where's any emotion in reading a letter ? The Jothika dream scene is a total time-waster, she is worried about her relationship, showing that would've been enough. About 15-20 minutes are wasted just show that Jothika gets nightmarish dreams about it.

Jothika looked mature for this role, as she did in VV. Surya was ok, nothing impressive in this movie. Bhoomika had nothing to offer, she looked beautiful and worth a few wallpapers.

The screenplay was decent, good enough for a timepass. There were a few family-ish scenes like 'papa dekho, ambasamudra mein paida, american jaisi ban rahi hai' and the whole 'mechanic' sequence until 'Maja Maja' song were very nice to watch. Vadivelu comedy was a total torture, he brings us tears rather than smile out of it.

Munbe Vaa was the best out of the picturizations. Newyork Nagaram, looked like a Powerpoint slideshow (could've avoided showing the Swiss flag in the background). Machakari was terrible to watch. Kummiadi and Maja Maja were timepass

On the whole, looks like Director Krishna wanted to make a movie with Surya and Jothika (releasing it timely with Surya-Jothika marraige, so that this movie would get a lot of publicity). But with such a weak plot, the movie fails to impress.

Its a movie to watch with your partner, when you'd least bother about the extra large sized holes in the plot and just need something family-ish, romantic-ish to watch onscreen, the movie has something to offer to such an audience. If you like Surya or Bhoomika, get the DVD and collect wallpapers. Don't remember of any wallpaper-ish scenes for Jothika in this movie (maybe I dint note that).

Hi guys!!!!!!!!

hey the movie is good da. yet its not up to the expectations of surya-joe fans. yet an enjoyable movie. surya's college galata is damn good. the title song.... wow! what a voice she has got?

hey the song maja maja is in my system but not in the movie. what happened? work of the sensor board or what? all songs are good. newyork nagaram wow what a cinematography?....

I feel its a good lesson for all youths. being a politicians daughter I came to know whats gonna happen to my boyfriend . Wen we went to the movie, on the way we were talking so much but on our retun trip we were jus mum. The movie was very much practical. theres a lot to think about after seeing the movie. The way boomika changed on her return from australia was interesting. I feel it was a too much of exagerration on jothika dreaming. but that touch of possesiveness was interesting. good movie to watch.. heyyyyyyy wait! it would be incomplete if I dont say about that small gals acting... she was chweeeeet.

Eew...what kind of kadhal is this?

Sillunu oruuuuuuu kaadhal....haaaa...sillunu oru kadhal.....after watching this pathetic movie, I didnt feel so much kadhal..

i have to say that this movie is a major disappointment of 2006...the thing is there was so much hype and hoppla surrounding the movie..and most people had the big feeling that the movie willl be a super duper hit...however, things never go the way we want them to go.....

recently I was reading interview with Suriya on sify .com and he is getting all defensive, the movie is a big azz flop..but he says itz breaking the ghajini record when this movie is a big flop and he is all showing his dislike for Asin just because she didn t do the weak character in the movie Bhoomika Chawla( who is not pretty and such a weakkkkkk actress) did. As quoted in the interview, this is what he said..." I don’t want to rake up old issues. Asin had initially agreed to do the film and my producer, director and cameraman had met her in her house at Kochi and given her a huge advance. Later she backed out saying that the script has to be re-written. Will any self respecting director change his script? I’m sure that the Aishu character in SOK is much better than what Asin did in Majaa or Sivakasi. Let’s not talk about it anymore, as bygones are bygones. I feel that Bhoomika has done an outstanding performance as Aishu. And what Sify.com reported about Trisha and Asin having the last laugh sounds ridiculous to me!"

oh...for the love of GOD!

anyways...let me stop wasting my time and tell you the story briefly..

The movie starts with Kundavi (Jyothika..and what funny name...kundavi..lol) and her loser friends looking for guys so they can fall in love, and get maried..kundavi loser friends find their soulmates and get married to some dorks....and kundavi is a left alone discouraged for not finding her ideal husband...then kundavi' s parents let her marry to Gautham (suriya) and both were very disinterested when they were marrying...

6 stupid years later..

we see kundavi and gautham, and along with their six year annoying old daughter (Aishwarya) living happily in mumbai where kundavi is a architect and gautham is a mechanic...for some reason, Gautham has to go to Newyork because somebosy like something he designedd...i dont know..i dont understand...then we see kundavi searching through Gautham's junk and finds a old, dirty, black diary..in it - He is a hot guy dude in an Engineering college in Coimbatore where he meets Aishwarya (Bhoomika), a soft-spoken daughter of a local MP. It is love at first sight for Gautham (i dont know how) and after a while Aishu also falls in love through some ridiculous situations????????. They decide to get married at the registrar's office but after Gautham ties the thali, Aishu’s dad and his men beat him up black and blue and take his daughter away!

after reading the diary, kundavi is on a mission to find Gautham's geeky girlfriend and surprise morning aishwarya turns up to where Gautham and kundavi is living...what will happen next??? watch the stupid morbid climax!

PROS:

Suriya looked hot in the film...well..i hate him having the ridicoulous moustache because he looks much better without it....performance wise..he was in top form..as the college dude and as the husband.

Jyothika was excellent in the film as kundavi...she stole the limelight from bhoomika...

Excellent songs..especiallly munbee vaa and newyork nagaram!1

Songs were wonderfully shot!!!

first half was okay...

CONS:

a very weak storyy...it had nothing new to offer...nothing extraoridanary...

shoddy script!!!

Bhoomika...God...she is the worst actress I have seen in the recent times...i mean she is so irritating in the movie...the way she cries when she see suriya getting beat up...wow...horrible!!! she is not that pretty either......she has such a weak character because there was nothing for her to do...such a useless character...i am glad asin or trisha didnt do this movie because that wouldve been savaging thier career!

bad climax.

vadivelu's comedy...i mean he had such a useless role in this movie..and his jokes werent that funny either...

Santhanam was better and he has the potential to be the next Vivek..

what was the director thinking when he was making this movie..i mean what was so attractive about this movie...is it the fact that its Suriya and Jothika movie...oh GOD...who cares if they are in love and are going to marry??

all I can say is dont waste your good money on this movie... you should watch emtan magan or vettayadu villayadu..atleast there is entertainment....watch this movie when it gets out on tv or dvd...but otherwise...you will just be bored watching thiis cheeesy..disappointing..love story!

Year 2006 seem to be the year of disappointments, especially the movies that comes with so much hype and hoopla failed to impress all kind of target audience. “Pudupettai” had a classic first half, but self indulgence of Selvaraghavan spoiled the second half and it neither was called a crap or a classic which Selvaraghavan aimed and expected the movie to be? Then came much expected “Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi”. which in spite of being made as socio-historic-satirical comedy in a different way, couldn’t impress all kind of audience. Gautam Menon’s ‘Vettaiyadu Vilayadu’ was a disappointment considering that it was expected to be a (so called) masterpiece by KK fans and as a quite different movie from KK by Kamal fans as we have Kamal Haasan as hero but it is more of a Gautam movie that Kamal’s and it failed to satisfy either. Though it worked partly up until the first half, second half went haywire. These aren’t as bad as a movie which we are going to talk about now, it is just that they didn’t meet our expectations.

Here comes ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’ which is the biggest disappointments of this year. At least the other three movies were genuine attempts in which makers have tried hard to do something different in Tamil cinema but this one though it tries to be poetic and romantic all through it turns out to be none of what it expected to be. Instead it turns out to be a fashion show of Surya, Jyothika and Bhoomika with various colorful costumes and hair styles. Krishna has got an interesting plot but his execution and screenplay which is made to fit in all commercial ingredients spoiled the novelty in the theme. The movie is all about a wife who comes to know about her husband’s past love from his personal diary. The only wish of her husband is to live with his ex-ladylove at least for one day in his life. And what will happen when a wife decides to make such a wish of her husband’s to come true?

Nothing much really happens in the first half, it is filled with unnecessary comedy scenes of Vadivelu which evokes yawn than laughter. Though it starts quite interestingly with Surya and Jyothika getting married without any interest, it soon shifts to their life after 6 years in Mumbai. It would have been better it Krishna had few interesting scenes to show how their relationship got better and how they started loving each other so much. The story doesn’t really take off in the first half, and for good or bad Jyothika finds Surya’s personal diary too late in the movie. Second half is even worse (except for Santhanam’s usual witty one-liners) with the Surya and Bhoomika love portrayed in an even more unconvincing way. The basic flaw in the movie is that though it deals with two deep love of Surya at two different times, both are shown in a shallow and unconvincing way and as the screenplay is pivoted around these two love stories, it fails miserably.

R.D.Rajasekhar and Antony does their usual job well and it helps the movie look technically sound and savvy. A.R.Rahman’s background score is as bad as the movie. Though the songs are good, it is simply wasted. In spite of a bad screenplay, Surya gives a neat performance. See for a mix of shock, surprise, fear, embarrassment all at once in his face when he sees Bhoomika in his house after six years. Jyothika is OK. Bhoomika is weakest character in the movie and so is her performance.

The couple who looks like made-for-each-other in their real life marriage photos lacks chemistry on screen in this movie and that is the (lack of) power of the screenplay of Krishna. Sillunu Oru Kadhal – NIL.

Sillunu oru Kadhal - Mind blowing breeze
Sep 13, 2006 06:47 PM 10363 Views

First of all, Congrats for the Surya-Jyothika couple on their wedding.

I have to admit it. When Surya and Jyothika share the screen, they definitely steal the show. This is what makes this movie attract the viewers or atleast it was one of my reasons to watch this movie.

The plot of this movie is all about mutual understanding, respect and love shared by a couple. From the beginning of the movie till the end, you just feel like you are Surya or Jyothika (Girls, of course) when you see them live their characters so well. The director has sculptured the characters nicely and placed them in different levels of maturity.

Surya (Gautham) is a dedicated, caring husband of Jyothika (Kundavi) and they live in Mumbai. They have a lovely daughter and their lives are just perfect as the three share a beautiful relationship. Well, almost perfect until Kundavi finds an old diary of Gautham one day. The quotes in the diary reveals another true love in Gautham´s past. Usually, you expect the wife to shout, scream and cry a lot but, Kundavi understands her husband´s feelings. What she does to make her husband happy and where does Gautham stand in the end are the just the answers you will have to get yourselves after watching the film.

The plot is a mix of new and old theories but hats off to the director for showing this family as a fun loving but dedicated to each other without making the cast overact. The very beginning of the movie shows the childhood of Jyothika in a village and how she grew up. Within a few clips, you have a sketch of her life and this credit goes to the editor. In many scenes, this guy has done a wonderful job by making the roll shorter. Vadivelu brings some comedy into the movie but does not have any scene to laugh our hearts out. Bhoomika is different but underplayed her role beautifully.

Another plus point of the movie is A.R.Rahman. After a while, you get to feel the young maestro through some wonderful music. ¨New York nagaram¨ is the song which affects the public mostly for its catchy tune. The background music helps a lot to the evolution of the movie as we take a trip to flashback-present-flashback back and forth.

Surya has become one of the promising actors of the south and he has prooved once again how he got there. The expressions comes so easily to him that he does not even needs a dialouge. As a loving husband to a rough n tough guy in the past, he got under the skin of his character.

Jyothika, on the other hand, shows an invincible maturity throughout the movie. She plays this charming village girl and then, a dedicated wife-mother without loosing the charm. Like Surya, she does not have strain to express herself without saying a word.

The only minus point is that the climax is kind of short and a bit confusing but it is definitely worth watching. Enjoy guys and write back.
