Thabks tk the vision of one great person who decided to develop this Murudeshwar . He build 20 + stories tall tower in front of the renovated temple garden with big idols for attraction a huge building for visitors stay including hotel . I travelled from pune we had fine visit to the temple followed by visit to the graden where a great statue of sitting Shiva is erected and can be seen from miles away.

The lake side restraunt gives you fresh air and average tasting food at the same time. The sea side residing lodge is awsome. A place that you won't not have listened. A place that arranges India's biggest symbol or master Shiva. A place that makes you feel you truly had a visit paid by the master. Arranged at the ocean shore, the amazing statue of master Shiva has a forcing impact. It looks that the eyes of statue will flicker at whatever time. It's a perfect work of art of workmanship and craftsmanship. The statue alone is reason enough for a visit to Murudeshwar. Despite the fact that there are different attractions too, shorelines, a pontoon ride to an island and some different sanctuaries, however all these are rewards. Indeed, even without all these the statue is a Must Watch. It's Huge in each feeling of it. What's more, ocean in the scenery just adds to the surprising impact. In the night the view is much additionally amazing. Mythologicaly, its trusted that in Ramayan, Ravan by imploring in Himalayas, achieved a Shiv Ling which could satisfy every one of his desires. Just in the event that he never let the Ling touch the ground. Dreading the devastation that he may bring about utilizing the ling's forces, all divine beings asked for Lord Ganesha to offer assistance. Master Ganesha. Master Ganesha utilizing some of his traps tricked Ravan on his way back to Lanka, and put down the Ling on the ground. Murudeshwar was where he held the ling down. Its pity that tourism office has not highlighted such a superb place as a vacation spot. Truth be told it could have gone as a passage for the as of late finished up New 7 Wonders survey.

I have been to Murudeshwar 3 to 4 times. It is well-connected with a highway. The huge Shiva statue is awesome. The tall gopura(temple tower) is very impressive. Luxury hotels are right next to the temple, and there are economy hotels within 500 m radius. Good seafood is available right on the beach. We went into the see on a boat and jumped in with lifejackets, but were afraid sharks might come and immediately boarded the boat back. The place is very clean, gardens are well-maintained.

Murudeshwar is a very beautiful holi place which is close to Bhatkal in Karnataka. The three sides of the Lord Shiva temple is surrounded by sea There are lot of poojas you can do over there like Ruda Abhishek, archana. You can reach this place by either bus or train directly to Murdeshwar or you can also access this from Bhatkal. From Bhaktal you would get mini tempo travellers which just cost you 20-25/- to reach Murdeshwar . Offcourse you have auto rickshaws too if you want to take from Bhatkal to reach there.

Sightseeing over there is just besides the temple you have a huge Shiva Statue where you can walk upto, it is really beautiful to see that as it looks like the Lord Shiva is Sitting in-between sea . The Best part is I think this is the only temple where you can go right till the top of the gopuram of the temple. Yes they have a lift right upto the top of the gopuram and from there you can see the entire beauty of the sea, Temple and Lord Shiva’s statue. There is a small fee for the ticket to go to the gopuram and see the view it is still worth it. You can go to the beach and play in it too. Hotel is not a problem there you have hotels which is next to the beach RNS residency the price is a little high, However there are other hotels which are cheaper than that. The place is absolutley safe as you will see lot of tourist always there. I have been there lot of times and I love that place.

If you are looking for a Total Bliss That is the Place you need to Visit.

Murdeshwara is a town in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. Murudeshwara"' is another name of the Hindu god Shiva. Famous for the world's second-tallest Shiva statue, the town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is also famous for the Murdeshwar Temple. Murdeshwar has a railway station on the Mangalore-Mumbai Konkan railway route.[1]The origin of the name "Murdeshwar" dates to the time of Ramayana.

The Hindu gods attained immortality and invincibility by worshiping a divine Lingam called the Atma-Linga. The Lanka King Ravana wanted to attain immortality by obtaining the Atma-Linga(Soul of Shiva). Since the Atma-Linga belonged to Lord Shiva, Ravana worshipped Shiva with devotion. Pleased by his prayers, Lord Shiva appeared before him and asked him what he wanted. Ravana asked for the Atma-Linga. Lord Shiva agreed to give him the boon on the condition that it should never be placed on the ground before he reaches Lanka. If the Atma-Linga was ever placed on the ground, it would be impossible to move it. Having obtained his boon, Ravana started back on his journey to Lanka.

Narada, who came to know of this incident, realised that with the Atma-Linga, Ravana may obtain immortality and wreak havoc on earth. He approached Lord Ganesh and requested him to prevent the Atma-Linga from reaching Lanka. Lord Ganesh knew that Ravana was a very devoted person who performed prayer rituals every evening without fail. He decided to make use of this fact and came up with a plan to confiscate the Atma-Linga from Ravana.

As Ravana was nearing Gokarna, Lord Vishnu blotted out the sun to give the appearance of dusk. Ravana now had to perform his evening rituals but was worried because with the Atma-Linga in his hands, he would not be able to do his rituals. At this time, Lord Ganesh in the disguise of a Brahmin boy accosted him. Ravana requested him to hold the Atma-Linga until he performed his rituals, and asked him not to place it on the ground. Ganesh struck a deal with him saying that he would call Ravana thrice, and if Ravana did not return within that time, he would place the Atma-Linga on the ground.

Ravana returned to find that Ganesh had already placed the Atma-Linga on the ground. Vishnu then removed his illusion and it was daylight again. Ravana, realising that he had been tricked, tried to uproot and destroy the linga. Due to the force exerted by Ravana, some pieces were scattered. One such piece from the head of the linga is said to have fallen in present-day Surathkal. The famous Sadashiva temple is said to be built around that piece of linga. Then he decided to destroy the covering of the Atma-Linga, and threw the case covering it to a place called Sajjeshwar, 23 miles away. Then he threw the lid of the case to a place called Guneshwar(now Gunavanthe) and Dhareshwar, 10–12 miles away. Finally, he threw the cloth covering the Atma-Linga to a place called Mrideshwar in Kanduka-Giri(Kanduka Hi

A weekend getaway en-route Goa
Feb 08, 2016 12:13 PM 15863 Views

Murudeshwar is one of the closest places to Goa and we keep visiting this place often as it is about 4-5 hours leisure drive from my home. It's a perfect and quick weekend holiday destination for us.

Where is it? The place is in Karnataka state(Bhatkal Taluka), very closer to Goa border, between Karwar and Mangalore. About 100 kms from Karwar, about 180kms kms from Mangalore and about 450 kms from Bangalore. The roads are good and can be easily done by road. Flying - I think Goa would be the closest airport. Train - you can take any train on Mumbai-Mangalore route(Konkan Railways) and there is a station at Murudeshwar now. The place is then about 15mins drive from the station.

What to see/do? This is a coastal belt so as it is, the place is serene, quiet and beautiful. It is famous for the 123 ft, tall statue of Lord Shiva. The idol is tall and looks pretty attractive and surrounded by Arabian Sea by its 3 sides. It is installed on a hill top(Kanduka Hill). There is also Gopuram, which is about 20 storied.

The place also has other attractions like sculptures, paintings depicting Indian epics and Hindu culture.

Stay: There are plenty of lodging and boarding places, hotels around the place for one to choose. There is also a decent hotel RNS Residency, located very next to the statue offering attractive view of the Sea.(costly though).

Anything else? At the bottom of the hill, there is a beach, where you can enjoy water sports and take a boat ride. A striking thing is a restaurant extending into the Sea where you can have some nice hot pakoras and tea, with the beach water flowing down the Hotel pillars at the bottom.

Problem with most Indian tourist spots is, the moment they become famous, they get commercialized, money-making becomes people's only objective, which they don't realize is detrimental to the place. Even Murudeshwar is moving ahead towards the same.

However having said that, if you are close by to Goa or Mangalore you can definitely have a stop-over. Otherwise a weekend trip is what is advisable.

Other closest places one can do along with it are Idugunji Ganesha temple, Gokarna, Jog Falls, Dandeli and of course Goa!
