Kidnap........................!
Jul 21, 2009 10:02 AM 5284 Views

Boy kidnaps the daughter of rich industrialist to take childhood revenge. He wants to start his life at fresh but he thinks he can’t unless and until he succeeds in revenge and plays a game with Businessman at his own rules and regulations. The plot is interesting and increases your expectation at the beginning when title depicts the story of boy in the form of pencil sketches. But you loose interest as time passes.

Ratings: **(2 - star)

*Screenplays:

*Sloppy. To make any movie successful, it is very important to have strong screenplay. This is where kidnap lacks. Intentions are good but what’s the point if you can’t express it. Most of the scenes look unbelievable especially the scene of Jail break. Emotional scene between Mother and Father of abducted daughter are too artificial. Some scenes are foolish like Sonia wants to take bath and there is no enough water so she asked Kabir and her explanation ‘Samza karo Kabir, mujhe nahana jaroori hain’ Apana Kabir takes her directly to sea. Ha Ha Ha :-) And Yes, our damsel in distress never forgets to wear cloths that show her curves :-) Also she is obsessed of swimming in sea. By the way where is Police in this whole drama? Is our system so weak or you thinks audience are fools. The important point is missing here. I am not convinced with the reason orphan taking revenge. You feel like taking a nap Zz

Show Video

Predictable & Boring
Mar 20, 2009 09:39 AM 5126 Views

There were two films which released simultaneously that is DRONA & KIDNAP. I knew Drona will be short in merit but I had lots of expectation from Sanjay Gadvi the person who made super-successful films like DHOOM & DHOOM 2. But Kidnap fall short in expectation.

It had an interesting boy versus man revenge saga plot but sadly didn't transformed into an interesting film on screen. Shibani Bhatija who gave us gems like FANAA & KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA, this time fails to glue u due to her pathetic writing.

The disease which a thriller film suffer from is predictablity, Kidnap gets infected easily because it fails to grip you through out the show. There are many sequence which illustrate Sanjay's let down as the director like New Year party in climax, the engagement party etc. The problem with Kidnap is that the kidnapper is very fond of her victim, Minissha gets a new sizzling wardrobe, where she gets it from? Imran pampers her instead of torturing. WOW!!! A new way of kidnap system. Thank you very much. The music by Pritam is also very thanda only barring Mit Jaaye & Hey Ya.

Sanjay Dutt looks disinterested throughout , an embarassing performance. Imran Khan gives an earnest acting but seems confused. Minissha Lamba looks absolutely hot in this glamour avtaar but sadly chooses a wrong script for skin show, in terms of acting she is always first -rate. Vidya Malvade doesn't looks convincing as Minissha's mother, even she tries to compete her daughter by showing her cleavage. Rahul Dev & Reema Lago are reduced to mere prop. All over, Kidnap is nothing but a disappointing thriller.

'Kidnap' movie review
Nov 14, 2008 07:18 PM 5378 Views

I  know,it's  been  too  long  &  everyone's  almost  forgotten  about  this  movie. On  my defence  all I can say  is  that  I  have  a  long  list  of  reviews  waiting  to be  written  &  this  movie's  number  came  up  there.

Sonia(Minissha  Lamba)  is  a  spoilt  brat  who's  just  on the  verge  of  turning  eighteen  years  of  age. Her  mother(Vidya Malvade)  is  a  divorcee  &  it's  been  about  ten years  since  Sonia's  seen  her  dad(Sanjay  Dutt). She  longs  to  atleast  spend  a  few  hours  with  him on her  birthday, but  unfortunately  her  mum  thinks  otherwise  &  in a  fit  of  anger  Sonia  walks  away  from  home  &  goes  to  rejuvenate  herself  in  a  solitary  beach(in  Mumbai, what  are  the  odds?).When  pretty  lil'  Sonia  opens  her  big  eyes  she  finds  herself  comfortably  stocked  away  in  an  armchair  by  a  handsome  stranger,Kabir(Imran  Khan). He's  immediately  informs  her  that  she's  been  kidnapped   &  compels  her  mother  to  speak  to  her  ex  husband.Sonia's  dad, Vikrant Raina  is  already  not  having it  easy  with  his  multibillion  dollar  company's  share  of money  being  looted  away  by  some  stealthy  person. When  he  learns  about  his  daughter's  kidnapping, his  father's  instincts  immediately  takes  over  &  he  seeks  out  to  get  even  with  Kabir. But  Vikrant  can't  remember  who  exactly this  Kabir  fellow  is  &  why  exactly  he  kidnapped  is  daughter. To  Vikrant's  dismay,Kabir's  also  a  technology  geek  who  can  easily  make  Vikrant's  retrieving  of  his  daughter  back  not  a  simple  task. Finally  Vikrant  has  to  succumb  to  Kabir's  rules  & play  the  game  as  he's  being ordered to.While  following  Kabir's  clues,Vikrant  slowly  comes  to  learn  of  the  kidnapper's  history.Meanwhile,Kabir  is  definitely  aware  of  how  curvaceous  &  minimally  clothed  Sonia  is.Will  he  able  to  keep  his  hands  off  her  long  enough  for  his  serious  work  to  get  done?

The  story is  well  written, but  with  blunt  edges  &  that's  what  makes  the  movie  an  ok-ok  type. This  was  supposedly  Imran Khan's  first movie  &  his  acting  is  pretty  impressive. It's  nice  to  see  that  he  can change  from  being  the  sweet  Jai  to  the  threatening  Kabir. One  can  see  that  Sonia's  character  was  definitely  written  up  for  Jia  Khan, but  Minissha  Lamba  does  sizzle  the  screen  with  her  oomph. It's  a  confirmation that  she  can go  from  serious  films  like  Shaurya  to  being  sexy  in  Kidnap.Sanjay  Dutt  does  his job  easily. It's  a  shame  to  see  Vidya  Malvade  who  played  a  go-getter  in  Chak  De  India  to  do  a  mother's  role  which  didn't  require  lots  of  effort. It's  time  she  started  getting  choosy  with  scripts.

All in all, only  one  watch  will  do.Unfortunately  due  to  a  few  mistakes, this  movie  just  manages  to  slip  away. The  three  out  of  five  stars  stand  for  Sanjay  &  Imran's  acting.

Nov 01, 2008 04:13 PM 3424 Views

One fine day, when me & my friend had nothing better to do in the morning, we decided ( I still regret it) to watch KIDNAP. Considering Imran (JTYJN) & Minissha’s (HTPL, BAH) recent performances and the cast, I was expecting Fireworks. All went well till the movie picked (or dropped) up pace.

The movie starts off on a promising note, with minissha in the opening song sequence (she looked like Kylie Minouge to me. I can watch that song again) cavorting in Two piece swimsuits after that, the script seems to wander off into unknown directions, with a plot thinner than the security thread on a Rs.10 currency note. At one point, it felt like watching an Ekta Kapoor serial, with the mother/daughter/grandmother arguments over the Father.

Vidya malwade plays minissha’s gorgeous mum. She needs to seriously reconsider her choice of roles. The scenes between Minissha & Imran look artificial ( To quote somebody else... ' Acting like being paid to act, but were unsure whether they would receive any payment').

Then the involvement of the Father (sanjay Dutt) when his daughter has been kidnapped, poor emoting and the chase/action sequences so pathetic, they look like inspired from MTV Roadies 5.0. Not to mention Imran’s justification for kidnapping minissha. You might suffer a heart attack due to shock when you come to know of it. Rahul Dev is also under utilised

Only thing that kept me from dozing off was Minissha.. I've never seen her look so yummy before. Imran also shines in bits & parts. She managed to wear designer clothes all the while, even while in Imran's custody... Her costume deisgner has done a good job!

Only reason to watch it wud be if you are a hardcore Minissha Lamba fan! Else dont waste your time and money and grey matter by watching through this crap movie. The director  desrves to be banished from movies for life..

A thriller with lots of comedy
Oct 31, 2008 05:54 PM 2593 Views

First time in my life, I have seen a film which is a so called Thriller. But I recognise it as a comedy. Can anybody tell me that in which angle Vidya Malvade (Chak De captain) looks like Minisha Lamba's Mother. Sanjay Dutt, Macho man, who is limping before a boy (moreover Choclate boy with Janne Tu fame).Even in Mission Kashmir Dutt dominated Hrithik in fight Seen. But where is that Sanjay Dutt.

I am very disappointed. Minisha Lamba is not look like a 17 year old girl. She is actually 24. But sorry to say she look like even older. I miss Minisha of "Yahaan".Inclusion of Rahul Dev, is the worst possible inclusion. Acting is very much satisfatory. and I must say this is Pritam's worst ever composition in recent time. The only good thing in this movie is its background score. It's a one time watch film. But I prefer don't go to movie theater. If u really want to watch, better wait for it, s TV Screening.

Its all about the bust!!
Oct 16, 2008 01:29 PM 2906 Views

Or getting busted.

'Bust' being the keyword here.. the only reason one might want to go watch this absolute hogwash, is to play peek-a-boo with Minisha Lambaa's bust.. and then get busted by the time you are out of the movie hall.. pull at your partner's hair for getting you to watch this movie..!!

Ok.. lets start with ummm(i'm slightly clueless here like the script!!)..

A chubby do-good-er kid getting convicted for 7 years trying his hand at a billionaire's car..! (Well that's a theoram trying to prove money can buy brains!!).. The kid then turning into a comeback kid and actually trying to act out the charged assault.. this is where the story could have picked some pace... but I guess that was too much to expect... there on follows a rather funny trail by dutt.. who from the kind of stunts that he is forced to do, does them like its an everyday job..!! These include hopping across buildings, freeing a prison convict, murder to fall short of it..!! This is pleasantly pushed by some funny rhymes for clues.. :)  ok thats something you should check out.. it brings out the fact that a kidnapper can be both hilarious and witty.. i'm surprised no other bollywood director had yet tapped that potential..!!

Of course, in the background (and very much in front).. minisha's bust keeps popping around all the while..even when shez oh-so-in-distress..you know kidnapped and all.. :) its more like.. "well who cares where I am.. I just need to shed my girl-next-door-image.. i'll wear clothes as short as anyone else".. with a hot mom who looks younger than her( I wish she'd rather have been kidnapped.. the lady cant act to save her life)..

dutt and imran are just trying to keep up with the idiotic script.. which makes no sense whatsoever..!!

Even the effort cant be appreciated..

The movie is a total failure.. it has no qualities that should highlight a thriller movie.. the script is poorly written.. it lacks all imagination..!! My verdict.. save your time and money.. !!

Not worth watching in the theaters
Oct 14, 2008 03:46 PM 2457 Views

The movie has just an average script. The happenings are very predictable and not a sign of a twist anywhere in the movie. Can watch it just once, if you are really jobless and want to see Minisha wear small clothes and the girls' can get a peek at Imran's new found physique, though not as earth shattering as John Abraham's.

The whole plot is, as you might have already guessed from the trailers, Imran kidnapping Minisha and putting Sanjay [Vikrant Raine, her dad] through various tests to save his beloved daughter. Her mother is deceivingly young and I kind of preferred her better than Minisha herself. In the end, very predictable, the kidnapper is forgiven as he has a valid for his act.

Imran is the only eye candy worth watching. The music is also just about average with only the title song being of any use to the movie.

Kidnap: Ya Rabba, le le meri jaan tu abhi
Oct 13, 2008 08:47 PM 2768 Views

First things first ...

Kidnap ... Must awaited, Much Anticipated and much sought after movie becuase of 3 prime reasons ...

  1. Gadhvi was back by 3 back to back successes ..

  2. Sanjay Dutt in an all intense role after a long time ...

  3. Imraan khan a certain hot proposition after the over-rated JTYJN

The story unfolds, Minisha gets kidnaped by Imran Khan Aka kabir. He hasnt kidnaped her for any kind of ransom or something, but he wants a long pending revenge from Sanjay Dutt Aka Vikrant Raina. Now, Donno y in the movie but Mallika ( LMFAO ) ( Vidya Mullwade ) and Vikrant's relation is shown in doldrums which makes no connection with the sceenplay of the movie whatsoever.

K getting back to the plot, Raina goes all out to find the kidnapper and solves the PAHELI with all the clues given to him. Eer Beer Fatte, Main Anath hun etc., in his pursuit, Rahul dev is with him.

Once he finds out who the kidnapper is he goes all out again to trace him and finally finds him and gets his daughter released from his hands .. BY VIRTUE of a 15 Minute boring dialouge ...

Now the main thing that dint convince me in the movie was the reason behind the revenge, Imran stole the car of Sanjay Dutt and then Banged the car and lil Minissha was in the car and she had her life at stake ., ., . Of course any father will get angry to see his kin in such a state ... In return Imran is sent to the Jail ... and he spends his time in the jail or rather the remand house and this pissed off Imran. Yeh to wohi baat hui.

Direction is as weak as it was in 2nd half of Dhoom 2. There already was a weak script plus Gadhvi's DVD copier dint work well this time seems ....

Performances - Actually the performances make this movie a LOL show !!

Sanju looks like he never wanted to do this movie and is doing a favor on the producers or is repaying a debt .... 2/5

Minissha - well Cleavage aint acting. Bachna aye Kusron.1/5

Vidya - Chak De. Chak de Kidnap. Urri Baba. 1/5

Now - the star of the show, the Mama ka bhanja Imran Khan...

Barring the loose script and drag, it’s not bad!
Oct 13, 2008 06:13 PM 2294 Views

For all the criticism this movie got, probably you can appreciate this movie better if you watch it just after the torturous ‘Drona’, another release of the same date. Courtesy Sanjay Gadhvi of Dhoom fame, this time we get to see negative shades of Imran after his chocolate boy looks in Jaane Tu. For another first, Minissha Lamba has opted to play a ‘me too’ skimpy look this time after having played a benign decent girl for too long.

A Juvenile prisoner Kabir (Imran) turns into a kidnapper of Sonia (Lamba) who we are made to believe is just 17 with someone just marginally elder, vidya Malwade playing her mother. Well, there is little to wonder when her grandma is shown to sport jet black hair. One fateful day after an argument with her mother, Sonia wakes up in the Kidnapper’s apartment with Imran desperately trying to look menacing, which he doesn’t seem like!

Kabir’s target is not money, but to play mind-games with Sonia’s father Vikrant Raina, the world’s richest Indian but alone at the mercy of the Kidnapper now. To get to his daughter, he solves clues by housebreaks, jailbreaks and finally a murder. For a film maker of Dhoom standard, the action sequences are not worthy of a thriller. Adding to the melee is that the film slows down on pace completely after the interval break!

What do you say of this character of Kabir who is meant to be a kidnapper but cares for her with much more attention than her stern mother ever did. He does dishes, takes her to beaches; she is shown well groomed just after being kidnapped. Not just that, the protagonist also helps her father realize his folly and gets her parents get back together! Any girl in her place should enjoy all this and the fact that the kidnapper was handsome!

Most flawed here is the script! Imagine a scene where Dutt is shown traveling South Mumbai to Panvel in 20 minutes flat! Despite the blunders, Imran still shines in the lead. Still, if this were Imran's debut movie instead of Jaane Tu, his Bollywood career may have begun in the red. Sanjay Dutt is his usual self and Rahul Dev was convincing in his role. Songs are passable and the background music doesn’t help much either.

Its serious business!

KIDNAP. The actual meaning of the word is to sleep like a kid!

Thesaurus says its to unlawfully abduct! I say its to deal a low blow particularly where it hurts the person who has hurt you albeit knowingly or unknowingly. Low(kid) blow(nap).

I am sure you might be wondering why have I not recoed A Wednesday and am I recoing Kidnap? Well for one the reason is ENTERTAINMENT! When you enter a cinema hall what do you expect from the film that you are going to see? Getting entertained right? How many of you really go to see a film to really learn from it? Please answer yourself truthfully, not me. I go to see a film for its sheer entertainment value, paisa vasool value, the progress of technical equipments used for the benefit of audiences like us, the acotrs maturity and how he performs and last but not the least about the reason for making a film at all.

When you have a script like WEDNESDAY, you have to treat it carefully as it is a time bomb ticking and when you have a film like KIDNAP you have to treat it equally carefully. Confused? Okay here goes.

The film is about revenge. If you have done something wrong to me when you could have listened to reason, I will do something equally wrong to you and not give you the reason! Because you already know it!

We are treated to lavish exteriors, beautiful beaches and an equally lean and oh-la-la Minisha Lamba. She looks absolutely gorgeous in the film. After the song and dance we are then treated to the reason of why the film got the name. A mother / daughter duel of words. Both fiery and fiesty and the end result is a fallout of views and the daughter going to calm her nerves in the serene blue waters.

Water is the reason of our being and here it becomes the reason of a low blow!

Sanjay Dutt, as a successful businessman comes across as a person who actually doesnt know the business he is conducting for so many years. he sleep walks through the film and I am not sure if any other actor would have been able to do it better. The role was not as demanding on the father as that of the low blower and the low blowee(kidnapped). Thats when I understood the true meaning of the title. Minisha is yet to be 18!

The interspersed dialogues of assertion between the estranged couple Dutt and Vidya Malavade is not really needed but gives you a gist of the troubled child that they are nurturing!

The game begins.

The premise of this film is very weak but played to the gallery by imraan khan as the low blower! He is amazing, collected and has a body language of a guy who is set out to right the wrong!

Again, here we see the extensive use of internet, cctvs and hacking of these systems. I tell you please see UNTRACEABLE and understand the hacking business! Anyway not to take away anything from the film because it provided some extremely thrilling moments. Particularly the one where Dutt sees imraan and chases him. Also the one where Rahul siezes imraan and there is a shootout. The whole idea of using their own house for the low blow to take place was a thrill in itself.

Thats what I mean by entertainment. I was feeling that I watched something that gave me an insight as to what really does happen to families who have experienced this gruesome happening!

Why am I not recoing it is because its premise is very weak. How can you allow a 14 year old boy to drive a car? How can the boy justify that he can drive any car that he wants to by entering a private house unlawfully and causing an accident that puts the girl in the danger of loosing her life? Meaningless to talk about it now since the film has grossed more than DHOOM already! There goes the audiences who give a thumbs up to seeing Minisha in a bikini and then there is no real dose of the fair sex in Wednesday. Anyways Wednesdays have always been reserved for the neutral gender. Please do not get me wrong, but both the films have lacked the treatment of a good premise completely. Glitz and glamour or even lack of it does not make a film more realistic or lesser, it has to have a good treatment by the director and he should know how to use the premise effectively.

The cinematography is excellent. Like I said to experience THRILL camera has to follow the people to give you the palpitation of there is something that is going to happen now! Use of overhead cranes and jibs that rotate the camera in 360 degrees and sweep over an area all give you the feel of soething lurking out there! these techniques have to be used more effectively and not to show the toned bodies of bollywood beauties only!

In short not only is the premise of the film completely PATHETIC but they have wasted good actors like Imraan and Dutt in a meaningless caper that doesnt even come remotely close to the scare of the word called KIDNAP!

NOW COMING BACK TO MY FIRST TWO STATEMENTS! COMMITTING AN UNLAWFUL ACT ON A PERSON WHEN HE IS SLEEPING LIKE A KID IS KIDNAP. Believe me its serious business and this film does not even do justice to a KID - NAPPING!

Enough said. Please watch A Wednesday over Kidnap anyday.

Whats so bad about it?
Oct 12, 2008 06:47 PM 3119 Views

Well, let me begin this review by saying that I am neither a fan of

SANJAY GHADVI nor his hit DHOOM OVER-RATED SERIES nor sanjay

dutt, minnissha lamba OR pritam'S HORRIBLE MUSIC FOR THIS FILM kidnap, to

give this moviIE "THUMBS UP".I genuinly feel that the critics in INDIA

are having a field day by praising every film that they they think is

out of the box, like A WEDNESDAY, ROCK-ON, JODHA AKBAR, AAMIR(one of the

most over-rated films I have seen this year and a lot other, it seems so

obvious and clear that whoever have paid the critics  or they are

biased to they will give a good review, otherwise they will thrash the

film to pieces, i am sure if this same KIDNAP would have been from the

YASHRAJ CAMP the critics would have raved so much about  the film

, that  you would have forced to bilieive that there is no better

film than that, as happened in case of both the DHOOM SERIES, and

also  the film OM SHANTI OM, another trashy film got great reviews

and a blockbuster status.so it really

makes  me wonder what made the critics  bash the film KIDNAP

so much when  it actually was not such a bad film as it was made

out to be, i was so keen to watch this film in the theatres before its

realese but  there was such a negative buzz about the film after

its release that I was hesitant to watch it on rent, forget

theatre.but  I watched it on VCD AND REALLY  I couldn't find

anything  bad about the film, it was a pretty decent one time watch

film, it was as bad or good like SANJAY GHADVI's last two hit DHOOM

SERIES and I am not praising this film because I am a fan of somebody

in the film, its just that what fails  to make me see why do our

critics are  so biased when it comes to certain filmmakers or

people in the industry or certain genre of films, they will give great

reviews even  if the film is undeserving but will  trash the

same directors film if it does not boast of a  big banner or a

starcast.

Well, i will not go into the story of the film KIDNAP, but what I liked about the film I'll write here

Like I said it was as good or bad like any other  commercial hit

film, it had all the masala, ingredients  which are required to make

a film a hit and  keep the audience entertained, i thought on that

account I found the film very  entertaining, it didn't bore me one

bit and thats what I expect from a masala potboiler, though I

do  not exactly like such kind of film, this one was pretty

cool.

STARCAST, was nice(except MINNISHA LAMBA), IMRAN KHAN  was

convincing as a evil guy, considering he has just begun, there is a

certain amount of sincerity in him which I like and admire about him, he

was very good in certain scenes, and if this guy works a bit on his

hindi, dialouge delivery, he can be an actor to really watch out

for, i  like him the most amongst all newcomers, just because of the

amount of honesty he has shown towards both his films and roles.SANJAY

DUTT was pretty good too, he looked good  and did decent job in the

role of VIKRANT RAINA, VIDYA MALVADE was okay, MINNISHA LAMBA I wish

though they had replaced with some much better looking actress someone

like an AYESHA TAKIA, GENELIA or AMRITA RAO, it would have made the film

look better and the acting also of the above said actresses would have

been better, i just can't stand MINNISHA, she ia way too over-rated

an actress and does not have the looks or charm.Rest of the starcast

was passable.

Chemistry between IMRAN and MINNISHA  was good though, it was very

unlike the typical bollywood chemistry  that can be seen when a

hero or heroine romance, coz there was not any romantic angle between

the two(IMRAN-MINNISHA, )it made it even more exciting.

CINEMATOGRAPHY was good, some of the locations  were  very beautiful.

I loved a lot of scenes between IMRAN KHAN and SANJAY DUTT, esp the

chase scene and when Imran khan  gives clues to SANJAY DUTT on the

phone were all good.they were a lot of edge of the seat

scenes, though not very  fast paced  but nevertheless keeps

you glued to the screen.

First half of the film rocked.

What I didn't like about the film,

MUSIC was a sore point, except MIT JAYE.this is

Pritam's  worst score, not even one song which makes you sing

along, so very boring music and very strange lyrics, .

VIDYA MALVADE and MINNISHA LAMBA's costumes were dreadful, both dressed

awfull, i wish they were not made to wear such bad looking

clothes.and MINNISHA's unneccery exposure, what was the need

of it?All those bikini tops made her look  very very

cheap.and weird. If you expose, if there is a need for it

its still fine but without any need it looks bad and thats what has

happened in MINNISHA's.CASE.

The film is very slow and boring in parts, they could have made the film

more crisp and fast paced considering the film belongs to a thriller

genre, tthe director could have done a much finer job, to keep the

audiences completely glued to the screen, i think thats where the film

failed big time, its entertaining but only till it lasts.had

they kept the pace of the film much better it would have surely rocked.

Second half  is very slow and boring.

So all in all I didn't find the film as bad as it was made out to be, it

was fairly entertaining and definately better than a lot of crappy

films which come, get great reviews and become blockbusters, so watch it

people without any bias and you may end up enjoying the film . like I

did.I am not defending this film in any way because it definately not a

great film but it was not as bad as it was made out to be.

Remove kid from kidnap = nap
Oct 08, 2008 01:47 PM 2603 Views

It;s not my view ask mr. Hermit he will know all reviwers and he can tell whose take it isb**eetwen drona and kidnap i chose kidnap to watch but as far i know it is not worthy. Same day i saw "into the wild" may be that can be reason why i did not like kidnap just may be. I am big fan of sanju that was one reason and the other was imran which pulled me towards it. Imraan khan is back after his successful debut jaane tu ya jaane na. I know one thing from promos that flick is not as big as dhoom series were but still movie looked ok in promos.

Kidnap suffers from a story that is hard to digest. I don't want to go in depth but there are scenes which were meant to thrill you but when they comes on screen they become comic scenes. Even a 12 year child can tell the flaws. Thats why i think director and his whole creative team is much younger than 12 year old child.

The chemistries between imraan , sanju and minissha is poor. Sanju looks tired. Imran is new so he is ok . Minisha, what to write whatever you see in promos is more than enough to know her acting skills otherwise if you are intrested in her more than you should go and watch. The casting of the movie is so stupid and surely it is one of the dumbs at the best. The chak de hocky captain is minisha's mother who will believe oh surely, one and only mr gandhavi.

Its better not to say anything about music of the flick. Overall, kidnap disappoints. But you don't know how far it will go , on bo because earlier mr gandhvi two stupid nonsense movies were superhit but no doubt music and casting were excellent in those. Had it not been for imran , gadhvi’s movie might have been a good way to sleep imran with his screen presence is able to hold you in parts otherwise from start to end its full of craps. The only one star for cast performance is for imran otherwise it don't deserve even one star. Remove the kid(imran) from kidnap you will get a goog nap.*

The MYSTERIOUS Kidnapper
Oct 06, 2008 03:52 PM 3734 Views

When someone gives you fast-paced 100% entertainers like Dhoom and Dhoom:2, you definitely expect big from when he unveils his next film. However Sanjay Gadhvi’s Kidnap is a good film no doubt but falls short of expectations. The film has excellent story, music and performances but at the same time has countless flaws and is dragging. More on it later.

The story of the movie: 17 year old Sonia (Minissha Lamba) is the daughter of Dr Mallika (Vidya Malvade) who divorced her husband and Sonia’s dad when she was a child. On the day of Christmas, just a fortnight before her 18th birthday, she has a heated argument with her mom and leaves the house angrily. At this point, she is kidnapped by Kabir (Imran Khan). Kabir then calls Mallika and informs her about the kidnapping and also puts forward an unusual demand-he will negotiate only with Sonia’s dad Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt). Mallika had no option but to request Vikrant to save Sonia. Vikrant agrees and Kabir’s game begins. Kabir puts a series of orders for Vikrant and he had option but to obey inspite of being the world’s richest Indian.

Who is Kabir? What does he want from Vikrant?

Does he want money? Or something else?

And will Vikrant be able to save his only daughter?

Kidnap begins wonderfully. Imran’s painful childhood showed in the form of gory animated sketches gives a thrilling opening to the film. In fact, the entire first half was full of excitement and mazaa!

On the flipside, the director and the screenwriter takes a lot of cinematic liberties throughout the film. The train sequence, the robbery, the scene at the construction site and the jail sequence were totally nonsensical but still they were entertaining and bearable. However, the scene at the disco in the end failed to make any sense. Some of Imran’s acts were confusing. Also, the film dragged a lot, especially in the 2nd half.

Another problem was Imran’s character. Unlike John in Dhoom and Hrithik in Dhoom:2, Imran Khan’s character lacked a certain coolness which I feel was necessary.

But the film indirectly also throws lights on the pathetic condition of the remand homes of our country which serve no purpose and corrupts the individuals instead of counseling and civilizing them.

Imran Khan does a great job, even though his character was not properly sketched. His cold and suave look is immensely impressive. He proves that he’s here to stay. His next flick is Luck, which also has Sanjay Dutt!

Sanjay Dutt has a longer role than Imran and does the best job than the rest of the cast! Right from the beginning till the end, he was terrific! In fact, no one other than Sanju could have essayed the part with utmost perfection.

Minissha Lamba’s sexy makeover needs to be applauded and performance-wise, she was as usual fantastic! But why was she shown as a 17 year old? Same with Vidya Malwade who doesn’t look like a mother to a 17 year old. She does her job well though. Rahul Dev was great and it was good to see him after a long time. Reema Lagoo was okay. Others were good.

Pritam and the Vyas Brothers’ music was excellent one of the plus points of the film. He best song of the lot was undoubtedly ‘Hey Ya/S For Soniya’.

Bobby Singh’s cinematography was topnotch. Raju Singh’s background score added thrill to certain important scenes of the film.

Shibani Bathija’s story, as expected, was like Zinda to an extent. But it was excellent-full of twists-n-turns, excitement and mystery. However, her screenplay was faluty at times and she also took lots of cinematic liberties, leaving viewers bewildered at times.

Sanjay Gadhvi’s direction at times was also not perfect, although he did a great job in many scenes. But surely, he is not in a form this time, like he was during Dhoom and Dhoom:2. Better luck next time Mr Gadhvi.

Some of the best scenes of the film:

1.    The sketches at the beginning

2.    Minissha, Sanjay, and Imran’s entry

3.    The railway train sequence (best scene of the film!)

4.    Sanjay at the engagement

5.    The intermission point

6.    The scene at the construction site

7.    Sanjay at the jail

8.    The scene at the petrol pump

9.    The last scene of the film

On the whole, Kidnap is a nice one time watch, but it fails a bit due to its long list of flaws. The film will have a tough time from today onwards will not remain in theatres for a long time.

Better take a nap kid rather than watching kidnap

The Plot:

A boy kidnaps the daughter of rich industrialist to take childhood revenge.

Ratings: (2 - star)

Screenplays:

Sloppy.

And Yes, our damsel in distress never forgets to wear cloths that show her curves :-) Also she is obsessed of swimming in sea. By the way where is Police in this whole drama? Is our system so weak or you thinks audience are fools. The important point is missing here. I am not convinced with the reason orphan taking revenge. You feel like taking a nap.

Casts:

Imran Khan as a kidnapper took his act quite seriously but dialogues and screenplays couldn’t help him. In each scene he has shown various shades of his character as a boy full of revenge, young Kabir gets attracted to sultry hostage, caring friend etc. We have seen him in ‘Jaane tu ya Janne na’ as a college, chocolate boy and in Kidnap its totally contrast Imran with stubble. Sanjay Dutt is nothing great and he looks old but still performs all the stunts with same enthusiasm as young Imran. Minissha dear, you need to take acting as seriously as your skin show. Minissha  nowhere looks 18 in fact her mother played by 'Chak de fame'  Vidya Malvade looks more younger than her. It’s such a mismatch. Vidya next time take a role which suits your age.  Rahul Dev is expressionless. Reema Lagoo is wasted.

Ratings: **(2 - Star)

Music:

Music by Pritam is repetitive. Background score for any thriller is very important aspect but music director fails. Only ‘Mit Jaaye’ sounds good.

Rating:*(1 - Star)

Others:

Dialogue writer had lot of scope to write meaty dialogues but he failed to do so. In one of the scene Sanjay Dutt says “Main 40 minute me nahi pahoch sakta, main kaise aau?” to this Imraan says “Nahi pahuch sakte tho Fly”. I can’t believe that Sanjay Gadhvi is the same guy who gave us series of Dhoom. He better stick to Dhoom series. Nothing much to mention about Choreography or Cinematography.

Rating:*(1 - Star)

Suv’s verdict:

Now I know what it means “Do not judge the book by its cover”. Promos looked promising but actual product is boring. There are no good releases this week and if you don’t have anything to do then better take a nap kid rather than watching kidnap. Choice is yours.

Overall Rating:1/2 (1 and a half Star)

Disappointing
Oct 06, 2008 06:47 AM 2557 Views

Truthfully, I found Kidnap to be the most lackluster thrillers made in recent time. Its a predictable thriller more suited for the television .

From a writing point of view writers had the perfect story which could translate onto the Indian screen very well with its nail bitting moments and they manage to copy'Shattered' almost identically. However the screenplay goes completely haywire and fails to connect with the viewer. The screenplay abounds in a number of unlikely and forced situations which just don’t seem realistic and fail to digest with the viewer. It seems like the writers have rushed their job and in attempt to do a direct Hollywood to Bollywood copy they have left out the fundamental things which made Shattered work.

The film’s greatest plus lies in its superb performances from the two leads. Both imraan and Sanjay gave commanding performances and their sincerity shows even during the film’s dullest moments. Minisha looks sensual but that it is!

Well a disappointing movie.

Kidnap- A tale of 2 Cleavages
Oct 06, 2008 03:15 AM 3081 Views

Clearly, the portrayal of the Indian heroine in films has changed. Now, when Kabir( Imran Khan) kidnaps rich heiress Sonia( Minissha Lamba) she doesnt scream for help or cry over her fate in a corner. Instead she changes into a succession of revealing designer outfits, prances in the sea and gyrates under a waterfall( in white of course), all while being kidnapped! Clearly this is Lamba's coming of age movie where she sheds all her inhibitions and joins the babe brigade.

Turns out Kabir has taken her hostage so that he can play some games with her$ 51 billion Dad Vikrant Raina( Sanjay Dutt), in order to avenge a wrong committed eons ago.So that explains his behaviour, but what about Minissha's dare bare act? Turns out, she's got to compete with a smoldering hot mom Mallika( Vidya Malavade). In one of the most inexplicable casting decisions seen in tinsel town, Vidya plays Sanjay Dutt's 36 yr old estranged wife.(she got pregnant at 18, we're helpfully informed) . The only hint that Minissha and Vidya are related comes from the fact that they like to leave a generous amount of buttons open. In a movie that has little else to offer, the battle for supremacy between the 2 hotties offers male viewers some consolation. To me, Vidya wins hands down with some of the tightest business suits, skirts and shirts seen this side of Wall street.

You might enjoy this movie if you dont ask too many questions- Like how Minissha has access to her wardrobe while kidnapped Or What was the point of some of the illogical things Sanjay dutt was asked to do Or who thought of rhyming Mausam with Awesome? I wont even get started on the climax

Watch it instead for some decent action scenes and of course, the women.

Among the guys, Imran Khan picked the wrong script to try a negative role. Sanjay Dutt was his usual self. The rest of the cast was nothing to write home about. Music is disappointing.

All in all Kidnap will be remembered as a movie that promised so much but flattered to deceive. And for Vidya Malavade who redefined the Moms role on screen forever!

Tacky and unbearable
Oct 05, 2008 02:37 PM 2508 Views

The problem with KIDNAP is that the story is so lifeless, so tacky, so outdated  that I felt terrible at the end for wasting time, money and energy on such a awful movie.Kidnap takes Bollywood to a new low!

Sonia(Minissha Lamba) lives with her mother Mallika(Vidya Malvade) and grandmother(Reema Lagoo) because her parents had separated when she was a child. 14 days before her eighteenth birthday, she has an argument with her mother about her coming home late after the Christmas Party. sHE demands that she would listen to everything if she gets to meet her father. Then she leaves home & goes swimming in the sea to dive outout but disappears into the sea.

She wakes up in the evening in a cottage which has no exit. At first she doesn't believe that she has been kidnapped and thinks that her friends are throwing a surprise birthday party. The Kinapper Kabir(Imran Khan) tells her how she came there.

Next morning, her mother receives a call from Kabir, who demands to speak to Vikrant Raina(Sanjay Dutt), a US-based Indian business tycoon, with whom he has an old score to settle.Kabir demands that Vikrant play a game. The game involves Kabir giving a task to Vikrant and upon completion of the task, Vikrant will get a clue that will take him one step close to his daughter.

The story has been inspired from Zinda however this is not even half as interetsing or intense as the 2006 release.Despite such a serious theme the whole film has been treated in a candy floss dhoom oh so cool  manner. The screenplay goes absolutely haywire in the second half. The movie drags on yet doesn’t have the thrill to counter up the boring portions involving Sanjay/Vidya .Whevever they appear on the sreen the movie becomes unbearable .Plus the director has injected a smooch between them which leaves a bad taste in mouth .Honestly the story/screenplay leave the viewer feeling restless. To give Sanjay credit the chase scene do keep the interest alive to a certain extent.

As a director Sanjay once again fails to deliver. Here is a director who is extremely inconsistent. At times he springs a surprise on the viewer with films like the enjoyable Dhoom and at others he completely bores the viewer and makes a disastrous ventures like MYKSH  or this. The biggest drawback of the film is that it relies so heavily on been-there-done-that situations that you actually search for something innovative throughout those two hours.Even the climax is such a letdown. The music is horrible and B grade .

Imran Khan is the only actor who adds that extra something to his character. The negative index in his character is intresting .Minisha is terrible and can not act to save her life.

Sanjay looks jaded and is plain ordinary. The fire is completely missing.Vidya is irritating. The remaining actors are mere gap fillers.

Overall Kidnap is a is a good opportunity gone waste. The film has taken a good opening thanks to the aggressive promotion, Imraan Khan and popular music, but it just doesn't have the power to sustain on its feet thereafter.A below average product that could be enjoyed on screens only if you have absolutely nothing else to do in your spare time. Else wait for the movie to come on cable or a DVD parlor to rent it out to you.

A total mess up
Oct 05, 2008 11:13 AM 2459 Views

Kidnap has a great star-cast. a good plot and good performances and all messed up by the director. It was like using all good ingredients, great spices, but making a tasteless meal which was hard and difficult to swallow.

I wonder how did the director manage doing that.

The story starts of well with an impact of hardships a teenager boy has to go through in Juvenile court and jail.  You expect intelligent and some substance in the first scene of the movie. But it starts off very bad, with a song in which Minissha has exposed two three or four much.

And the tension and interest which was made earlier is lost.

Vidya doesn't look like mother of Minissha. Sanjay Dutt is wonderful. Dialogues are good. But too many songs diverted the attention of director. He could neither focus on the domestic problems and emotional conflict between Sanjay and Vidya He could not focus on the hardships and real pain of Imran.

Minissha doesn't look like a 17-18 year old girl. She doesn't have the innocence and sweetness. Her selection as the movie heroine was the first step of making a hamming movie.

Imran has carried his bearing well. ANd Sanjay Dutt is the saving grace of the movie.

If you miss it, don't feel bad. If you see it try hard not to get mad. Just an average movie.

The climax is ridiculous, with a long sorry-sorry episode, till u feel sorry to wahave watched a torture movie

I hope and wish that someone make a tension-filled movie without any songs or with very less songs. eg: Ittefaq, Benaaam etc.

But better movie-making techniques cannot replace brain power of the director.

Kidnap - Too much Hype for Too Average a Movie!
Oct 05, 2008 01:00 AM 2854 Views

A lot of times, these days, hype about upcoming movies get blown out of proportion and so has been the case with Kidnap. The promos were pretty catching with Irfan Khan, in this dashing avatar of his, saying stuff like “Hell is right here”, “I set the rules of the game”, etc. I also saw the cast appearing on Zee TV – “Sa re ga ma pa” last week performing some attention-grabbing stunts. But I think it was mostly because of the “heart break kid” Imran Khan, basking in the glory of the highly successful “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na”, that expectations from this movie rocketed sky-high! But unfortunately the film didn’t quite live up to that!

I won’t write a spoiler here and pour water on the little amount of money’s worth you might get out of this movie while watching it for the first time but as per the promos: this movie is a “high-octane edge-of-the-seat drama about a power tussle between a young boy and the father of the girl he kidnaps.” Sounds good – but it doesn’t really feel so when you are actually watching it. And “edge-of-the-seat drama” seems to be a far cry! The truth is that the film rolls on and on about the game between the abductor, Kabir (played by our favrorite kid, Irfan Khan) and the affluent businessman, Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt). But after a point of time, the tussles between the two begin to seem utterly pointless. The father is asked to do a set of impossible tasks, at the successful completion of each he is given a clue which would get the him closer to his daughter, Sonia (the sizzling Minissha Lamba). All this feels decent in the first quarter of the film but soon takes its toll on the audience and the film starts dragging along which is the probably worst thing that can happen to you when you go out to watch a movie.

Soon after, the only thing that seems to excite the audience is the cleavage and skin-show by Minissha Lamba and her young mom, Mallika (Vidya Malvade). The other day I was watching some movie called “Inteha” on TV where Vidya was playing an RJ in her early twenties and it came as quite a rude shock to me when I first heard Minissha Lamba call her “Mom” for the first time in this movie! Reminded me of those Ekta Kapur K-Serials where the actresses playing moms are, more often than not, younger or about the same age as their daughters!

As far as the music is concerned, it is pretty unimpressive with Pritam not really getting the chords right! On top of that, the lyrics like “Mausam is Awesome” don’t help him at all. At the end of the day, all I recall about the songs, most of which have been forcefully ill-fitted into the storyline (if there is anything like that), is a bunch of noise that would at best qualify as ‘Grade C’ item numbers! The only song that sounds good to me is the heart-touching “Mit Jaye” track that comes up at the end of the movie while displaying credits.

The film is being touted to be “From the makers of Dhoom and Dhoom 2…” and the makers seem to be setting lower benchmarks with each subsequent release. I remember loving “Dhoom” but was disappointed to find “Dhoom 2” about half as good as its predecessor. Today, “Kidnap” presented a pretty dismal picture compared to both “Dhoom” and “Dhoom 2” – I wonder where the makers will end up if they continue to make films according to this trend!

Overall, I would not really recommend this movie to anyone unless of course you have nothing better to do and want to check out some skin (courtesy Minissha and Vidya)! For those looking for thrillers and action-sequences, Yes – this movie does have some high-impact thrills, spills and chases (reminiscent of the Dhoom series, I guess) but would probably turn out to be more unrealistic than you can ever imagine! It wouldn’t really make sense for me to talk much about the acting because there was little scope for the same in this type of a fragile storyline! Sanjay Dutt is decent and both the babes (the mom – Vidhya and the daughter - Minissha) look pretty hot most of the times, irrespective of whether they are kidnapped or tense or whatever! And I can fairly understand the temptation faced by Imran Khan when he was offered this negative role – He probably grabbed it to get rid of his “chocolate boy” image from “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” and show the world how versatile an actor he is… But this one really didn’t work out for him as well!

This movie really doesn’t click in my opinion and from the reviews I have heard thus far, the other big release this week – “Drona” has bombed as well! Hope we have better stuff coming up in the upcoming weeks at box office to light up this festive season a bit.

Dimag ki batti gul
Oct 03, 2008 08:58 PM 3828 Views

It would be apt if we describe all those associated with the film with the statement "dimak ki bati gul " which may be the financier who put in his money into such a inane product or maybe the actors who gave their consent for such a film or maybe the writer for thinking that the audiences are fool and hence they wouldnt notice such a horrible script or I it might the director who messed up whatever good was left in the film anyway if you ask me the film has a poor wafer thin one line script, confused and clattered screenplay, poor acting, poor music, poor direction, weak unbelievable sequences and poor casting which makes the film unintentionally funny so in all the film is a complete disaster and stay away from it but it seems afterall my batti is gul as I spent plenty of cash for watching such a bad movie

Story

The film is the story of kabir(imran) who has spent 7 years in jail for stealing the car and for allegedly kidnapping daughter sonia(minnisha) of rich business tycoon raina(sanjay dutt) which kabir thinks is unfair as he was only trying to help his injured friend so he build sp a grudge against raina and finally takes revenge by really kidnapping his daughter and then taunts him and harasses raina and tells him that he will get his daughter only if he solves certain clues and so from then a absurd cat and mouse chase follows and film culminates with reunion of raina with his estranged wife mallika(vidya malvade) and his daughter is finally set free by the kidnapper so in all a film of totally absurd and confused sequences which are yawn inducing and instead of increasing the pace of film slackens the film and makes it boring

Good parts

1-the mit jaye song

2-the chase between kabir and raina which is directly lifted from bond film casino royale

Bad parts

1-story

2-screenplay

3-unintentionally funny scenes like when raina finally finds his daughter but does not rescue her

4-casting which is very poor as neither minnisha looks eighteen nor vidya malavade looks her mother which makes some scenes untentionally funny

5-in all the entire film

Questions I would like to ask the director

1-do you think audience is stupid and hence you can make a hit film by showing women in bikinis and hot action scenes while not having story

2-how does sonia wear such stylish and brand new clothes everyday even when she is kidnapped

3-how can you take a good concept like amazing ace and spoil it by absurd situations like stealing a note from a matka kings fortress like home or maybe how do you explain rash and reckless driving which culminates in a bike chase on a rail sea bridge

4-how can a young child so easily steal a car from a rich tycoons secured house

Performance

Kabir-imran khan acts poorly and shows only one expression in the film. Sonia-minnisha lamba just exposes but forgets to act and even her make up is bad which make her look like a white dwarf. Raina-sanjay dutt is ok as raina but makes me wonder what is he doing in such a film. Malika-vidya malavade is completly miscast as the mother and ends up being the laughing stock of the film. It is sad that reema lagoo is reduced to a prop and a hangeron in a small role. Rahul dev overacts as the security expert
