The extraordinary amount of good acting in this movie is a comedy, it has been an extraordinary amount I liked the movie is a 2007 Bollywood comedy film directed by Priyadarshan, and produced under thePercept Picture Company. The film starsSharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Rajpal Yadav, Arbaaz Khan andTanushree Dutta in lead roles Pankaj( Sharman Joshi), Sameer( Tusshar Kapoor), Martand( Rajpal Yadav) and Gautam( Kunal Khemu) are bound together by their ambition to make it big in life with the least effort possible. Each one tries his hand at finding a short cut to success but ends up being in even deeper trouble.

They believe that the only way to get rich without working hard is to marry a wealthy girl. As luck would have it, a rich girl Ritu

This leads to much confusion, creating hilarious twists and turns, along with an element of thrill, crime, murder and suspense.

Funny and humorous, Rajpal yadav is the main lead in the movie.

No one can replace his acting. I was laughing out loud while watching the movie. One of my all time comedy hits for sure. Watch it whenever you are depressed, specially Rajpal yadav's acting.

DHOLI TAARO DHOL BAAJE!
Feb 21, 2008 03:46 PM 7438 Views

Filmmaker Priyadarshan has always given one of the finest movies in Bollywood. His movies are keenly waited and always succeed in entertaining a large section of moviegoers. Dhol, his lesser famous movie, was also one of Priyadarshan’s finest films and arguably better than his previous flicks like Bhagam Bhag, Chup Chup Ke and Kyon Ki.

The story of the movie: Gautam aka Goti (Kunal Khemmu), Martand aka Maru (Rajpal Yadav), Sameer aka Sam (Tushaar Kapoor) and Pankaj aka Pakya (Sharman Joshi) are four friends, who know each other since childhood. They have no plans for their future and they are unemployed. They can be labeled as ‘Samples’! When one of their friend becomes rich overnight after marrying a rich girl, they began thinking that even they should marry a rich girl so that all their problems get solved. At that time comes Ritu (Tanushree Dutta) in their neighbourhood along with her grandparents (Om Puri and Farida Dadi). The four simpletons decide to try on her. Ritu had come to the city to find about her late brother, Rahul Tripathi and the mystery behind his sudden death. How they four try to impress her and how they get into a big problem is what the movie is about! And later in the story enters Zikomo (Murali Sharma), the villain of the movie! He is in search of a Dhol and thinks that the four friends have it. To know what happens next and the mystery behind the Dhol, watch the movie!

Dhol is made in complete Priyadarshan tradition-they are lots of other actors; there is misunderstanding, confusion, problems and of course humour! But Dhol stands out from the rest of Priyadarshan flicks as the humour, though is illogical, is really very good and makes one laugh uncontrollably, especially the humour in the first half!

Dhol’s first half was outstanding! The entry scene of Tushaar, Rajpal, Kunal and Sharman (the pregnant lady’s sequence) was damn funny and gives you a hint of what to expect in the rest of the movie! The film gets better after Tanushree Dutta’s entry! And the scenes where the four make ideas to impress Tanushree and how their ideas work against was super-humourous! Trust me, these scenes are so funny that there is a strong possibility that you may fall off from your seats laughing!

In the 2nd half, the humour level drops, as the story demanded. The flashback sequence was good and the climax was excellent (the Priyadarshan tradition maintained in the climax too!). However, the last scene of the movie was quite shocking!

One of the other reasons why Dhol is worth watching is that along with humour, it has a good story too. In fact, the movie focuses on its actual story in the 2nd half, because of which the humour gets reduced. Because of this, all those expecting a complete laugh riot may get little disappointed. However when the film ends, we feel that we saw something which was funny, illogical but also sensible!

As far as the performance is concerned, the best among all of them was Rajpal Yadav! The actor, with his height, personality and funny character makes his presence felt and succeeds in providing laughter! The second best was Kunal Khemmu! Kunal Khemmu had done only serious roles (Kalyug, Traffic Signal and to a certain extent, Super Star). But with Dhol, he proves that he is great in comedy too! His voice, his long hair and of course his acting makes his performance a great one!

Tushaar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi-both give an equally good performance! Tushaar was great in the scenes where he shouted “GOTI, KALTI MAAR!!!” Sharman also makes his presence felt by a great performance, especially in the boxing scene.

Om Puri gets good scope in the first half. Farida Dadi, who played the role of Tanushree’s grandmom provided laughter especially in the first half. Asrani and Tiku Talsania both were okay.

Arbaaz Khan is also there in the movie who really does a great job. Same for Payal Rohatgi. Rasika Joshi was funny; Prerna Virender was great in the item number.

Murali Sharma’s villainous act was terrific! His character, Zikomo should be counted as ‘Most Remembered Villains of Bollywood’!

Pritam’s music was cool and trendy. The songs which stand out are the title track and ‘Dil Liya Dil Liya Re’. The item number in the beginning ‘Haadsa’ was brilliantly picturised.

Piyush Shah’s cinematography was okay. Action sequences was great and in some scenes, very funny!

Manisha Korde’s dialogues were wonderful and funny! They helped in making the movie successful! Her screenplay was also very effective.

Priyadarshan’s direction was as usual great. He did a great job in his old good tradition. I hope he continues with this for many years to come!

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

1.    The song ‘Haadsa’

2.    The entry of Tushaar, Sharman, Kunal and Rajpal (funny!)

3.    The four singing loudly in the song which enrages Rasika!

4.    The four pushing Om Puri’s car (awesome!)

5.    The ‘pooja hawan’ sequence (excellent!)

6.    The boxing sequence

7.    Zikomo taking the four and interrogating them

8.    The climax

On the whole, Dhol ranks as one of the most humourous movies of 2007! It has a good story and outstanding humour. Many have missed this movie in theatres. But now, go grab its VCDs/DVDs and watch it and have a good laugh!!

Kabhi Dhol Jyada Dumroo...
Oct 18, 2007 01:31 AM 4883 Views

Another Priyadarshan/Vohra flick another movie that was seen for TP

rather than actual desire, the only reason I did see this movie was the

fact that the regulars were not there in this movie(Akshay Paresh and

many others), but needless to say I had low expectations from this

movie.

I was happy with the casting in general except, Rajpal Yadav who once

again annoys to no limit, he does however extract some laughs, but

these were those standard slapstick non-original jokes, in fact this

whole movie is like playing the dhol, I mean it takes hardly any talent

to make loud noise, or even play the odd good beat on the dhol for a

small time does it? Its only those who can carry different beats in a

nice sequential manner, for an extended period who are considered

great.

Which brings us to the other instrument, the Dumroo hardly requires any

talent, it has no variations, and it may be enjoyable for a while the

monkey dances(hmm sounds like Rajpal Yadav, good analogy), but its not

a instrument that will entertain you for long or even get you dancing

like the Dhol does.

This movie was like the dhol and the dumroo being played, sometimes the

Dhol was played sometimes the dumroo, sometimes both together, but

mostly the Dumroo played alone and the monkey danced. And like any 24

year old sooner than later I got bored.

The movie has some good Dhol(good) moments but after a while all I

heard was the annoying Dumroo(entertaining initially, then tolerable

then irritating), the large ordinary parts really ensure this movie is

mainly good for a few funny clips on "MERE BHAINS KO ANDA KYUN MARA"

(if you haven't watched it watch it on Filmy, it comes in the evenings

and is really quite funny).

This movie had its moments, the actors did a fine job, except Rajpal

Yadav(who can act though, I've seen him in Main Meri Patni…) who

annoys more than entertains, I've said it many time and I'll say it

again I really think Sharman Joshi and Tushar Kapoor have a fine career

ahead of them in the multi-star comedies especially.

Some scenes were really funny such as the aborted attempts to impress

the girls father, the zany attempts to woo the girl and take her away

from each other.

But after this was over there was a failed attempt to make this movie

into much more with a mystery added, this mean that once the girl was

in, the following 45-60 mins was increasingly torturous, the climax was

"SO BAD ITS ALMOST GOOD CATEGORY", I mean what were they thinking if

you had to have tense ending at least make some attempt to make it

palatable.

The movie is also extremely predictable, there's hardly a scene you

cant predict and you wont be breaking into spontaneous burst of

laughter here, its more like you see it coming and almost start

laughing before the gag.

The movie follows a gradual decline throughout the movies except for

the odd bump, down or up, and then rapidly tumbles downhill once they

have made friends with the girl.

Most of the really bad scenes were towards the end, one the movie tries

to be more than a run of the mill comedy, also many of the jokes were

very very stale and reeked of repetition, THE LAST 10-15 WAS ESPECIALLY

DISTATEFULL AND COMPLETELY SPOILS THIS MOVIE.

I didn't find Tanushree Datta quite the siren she was to play, and her

acting talent is in serious question, especially in view of her

non-appealing looks, if you cant be a HOT and cant act how much time

can you survive.

Technically also this movie was weak, with the constant female gaze and

shoddy lighting and camera-work.

The songs except the title track were no good either, when the songs

played in the 2nd half I could feel the collective gasp from the

audience.

In all a movie that's just ordinary merely because of the cast, and the

very low expectations.

Avoiding it wont be a bad idea.

And if it has to be watched watching it on TV for free or a very cheap

matinée or something is a must, if you pay full multiplex rates you

will feel disappointed.

-s lots of stale jokes, RAJPAL YADAV, LAST 45 MINS AND LAST 15 MINS

ESPECIALLY, bad technically, bad songs.

+/-s tries to be more than what it was, not the regular cast(I'm

happier for it), Tanushree Datta.

+s some good scenes towards the beginning, title song, good acting and

cast except RY.

total 4.5/10(I'm trying to be objective here, I don't like Rajpal

Yadav or Tanushree Datta and this movie did meet my very low

expectations, so I'm giving it the benefit of all doubts, on absolute

terms this movie was not more than a 4)

4 fellows...in a desperate situation to become rich and prove their worth end up spinning an endless web of lies. Quite unfortunately for them, everytime they come up with an idea to earn some money either they are put down or it has a wrong repercussion. Finally the four frends Pakhiya(sharman joshi), Markand(Rajpal Yadav), Goti or Gautam(Kunal Khemu) and Sameer(Tushar kapoor) start weaving dreams of meeting a rich lady and marrying her to find an ultimate and final solution to their financial problems.

Ritu Tripathi(Tanushree dutta) wants to investigate why his brother(Rahul tripathi) died a sudden suicidal death. Opportunistic4turn her into their side by pretending to be her brother's frends, wanting to help her. Story turns weird, when some Zikomo investigates about a dhol which Rahul and his friend Jay knew. Then it becomes like a salad bar, with people pouring in from all directions and our famous 'Opportunistic 4'  taking full advantage of the situation.

Personally I think that the movie went really weak on it's plotline. If we actually ignore the comedy part then its like a total fully faltu movie. The only save I think was the comedy . Rajpal Yadav has done some relly funny scenes and so have the rest of the actors. Tushar Kapoor should not do comedy. He is 'not so upto the mark'  types. Music was also kinda ok, although just one song was kinda gud "Dol Bajake". Om Puri is an excellent actor and some comic scenes cud have been handed over to him to make this movie seem gud.

I had quite a lotta expectations from this movie after reading the TOI review and its 4 star rating, but was duped.
