Noisy Assasin

Advertised as a quiet unit, but it is not! It makes so many different noises it wakes us up. When checking manual to see how to quiet it down, it actually lists under troubleshooting "Unit Making Noises"..."Low clicking, bubbling, and whoosing noises are normal during operation." If these noises are "normal" they have no business advertising this unit as "quiet". I've never heard anything like it. We have two other units that make soft humming noise. This is nothing like that. It gurgles, whooshes, hums, clicking, knocks...this is one to avoid!.

When the unit is running it has the effective BTU's to do the job, however it is not quiet. The unit is fairly user friendly as far as the digital controls go or via the remote control, one thing to note  however is caution must be taken with the remote as the control buttons will stick under the face plate very easily. The unit is not obtrusive when place in a window, and the over all appearance is fair, but cheap looking. The unit is made in China and you will not find the quality of workmanship as on units made in the India. Upon removing the front panel from the unit I noticed I could see the front cooling coils and looking down the side of the unit I could see all the way to the back of the unit where the condensing coils were and straight out the back of the unit. This doesn't seem right I say and proceed to remove the Chassis from the cabinet to make the window install. Upon removing the chassis I found foam weather stripping laying in the water pan that had come off during the original installation of the chassis into the cabinet which enabled me to look all the way through the cabinet with the chassis in place and causing there to be no separation from the front cooling section and rear heat discharge. Becoming an unhappy camper I proceed to install the side panel accordion wings only to find that the material used to make the accordion wing was cut too small and did not fit the wing frame properly. Off to the local hardware I go. I have installed new foam weather stripping to separate the front cooling section from the rear heat discharge area in the cabinet. I have used a silicon caulking to close the gap in the accordion wing assemble. The unit is completely assembled and installed and running. For how long, only time will tell. After a few days of use the unit smells like an old refrigerator, (Ozium) helps.

The unit will not maintain a comfortable room temperature when placed in the energy saver mode, either too cold or too hot, very unstable, I am running a ceiling fan in the room to make sure the air is well circulated when the air conditioner is not running. The unit is plenty big enough for the area it is cooling and the area is well insulated. When the outside temperature drops below 72ºF the unit will not run making it impossible to maintain any kind of room comfort after the sun goes down. The other cooling mode seems to work as described by Carrier, with one exception, it does not remove the moisture from the air, it adds to it, this happens in all settings.  Outside humidity 12% inside 40%+. Needless to say it is more comfortable outside at 86º than inside at 76º.  When using the Auto fan mode every time it changes speed the cabinet buzzes plastic against metal as well as when the compressor starts, kind of a harmonic rumble between the fan and the compressor. I will have to figure out a way to isolate the sound.

My conclusion is that the unit is very poorly designed and assembled. This unit shipped directly from the manufacturer and that is a War Story all of its own.

I won't write too long about this A/C just what I found the pros and cons

takes up very little window space.

ices up very readily, is not as quite as they claim, does not seem to move a lot of air.

It is perfect for a kitchen window or any window you want to have a/c in and still see out the window. If seeing out your window is not an issue, buy something else.
