Ankit computers is a somewhat famous shop on SP Road. I recently had a very bad experience buying from this shop. In short - the treatment you get when you are buying something has no correlation with the treatment you get when you need repair or replacement! I bought an Antec cabinet - the P182, 2 x 2 GB Transcend memory, 500 GB Segate hard disk and a Sony DVD writer from this guy. Of these, the DVD writer did not work. It did not work since the first time I plugged it in - wouldn't read a thing.
So I called up the Ankit computers person - Dinesh. He claimed that his service centre was closed on that day and I should go on any day after Monday and get a replacement. When I went to the shop, the next Wednesday, they pointed me to their service station. This place is a cramped place that looks like a prison interrogation room. I was made to wait for what seemed like 30 minutes there. After the wait the fellow there took the writer, shook it a couple of times and then claimed that something was broken inside and was moving.
Hence, he suggested, I should go back to the counter and get it replaced. So I went. This time these guys wouldn't look at me for another 15 minutes. They behaved as though they were doing me a favour by even talking to me. After this wait, Dinesh asked me to follow some random guy carrying cartons around and he would show me where to go next. So I did. This fellow pointed me to some nondescript building which looked like it could be someone's house. Turns out that the Sony DVD writer reseller was operating from here. This fellow treated me courteously, but made me wait another half an hour nonetheless.
Eventually, some tech guy there looks at the drive, cracks it open and says it can't be repaired, either leave it with him for couple of days or ask Ankit to replace it since it is well within warranty. This place, by the way, is not very close to Ankit. So I call up Dinesh. He picks it up, but is speaking to someone else in the shop. After couple of minutes he speaks into the phone and says something to the effect that he cannot replace the drive. When I try to explain to him the what the reseller is saying, he hands over the phone to someone else who says that Dinesh is having his food and cannot speak! So I take the drive and head back to the shop. I confront Dinesh and ask him why am I being made to run around when the damn thing is practically brand new and refuses to work(it was barely 5 days out of the shop!) he claims that there is nothing he can do and warranty is manufacturer's problem! Eventually he takes the drive, gives me a slip saying I have given it to him, and asks me to collect it four working days later.
Of course, all the while behaving like he is doing a great favour to me. So, my suggestion is, unless you are very sure that the product you buy from this guy will never fail and you'll never need to use warranty, DO NOT BUY from Ankit computers.
