Serious Action Hero
May 02, 2015 06:34 PM

Ajay Devgan is a son of Shri Veeru Devgan who was a fight director in bollywood industry. Ajay devgan started his acting career with unforgettable movie Phool aur Kaante, that movie turned him into a Star within a fortnigh where the collection on the box office were maximum.

Ajay Devgan is also a black belt which means he can even fight in the movie as per the role given to him from the director. This can be seen from his movie Singham, Singham Returns, certain parts in Gangaajal, Golmaal and recently in AJ(Action Jackson). Even he has won national award for movie called "Gangaajal" I would love to see him as Action Hero.

Ajay Devgan
Jan 06, 2012 01:24 PM

Ajay Devgan is son of famous action director -Vishal Veeru Devgan.Ajay Devgan was born on 2 April 1969.

He's married to famous actress Kajol and have two kids Nyasa(daughter) and Yug (son). They got married in year 1999.

In his debut movie- Phool Aur Kante itself he won the Filmfare awards for Best Debutant in the year 1991. Later on he worked in action movies like Dilwale, Suhaag, Diljale, Jung, Haqeeqat, Major Saab etc. They were all action movies and at that time he was considered of that genre only.

He didn't want to get typecasted as an action hero. Then came Zakham (1998) directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Which changed the peoples perception that he can do serious meaningful roles as well. He won National Award twice one for Zakham and other for The Legend of Bhagat Singh.

He also received appreciation for his roles in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Bhoot, Apaharan, Omkara, Golmaal Returns, Thakshak, Khakee, London Dreams, Company, Singham etc.

With every role he has achieved new heights. His upcoming movies are Tezz, Son Of Sardar, Bihaad, Gulel, Ramayan, Bol Bachchan.

Personality: which others don't have
Jul 28, 2011 05:33 AM

I think huge explanation is not required for ajay devgan as others do. he is the dashing personality in bollywood. though he never has been on first rank in bollywood, he has the first rank in their fans heart forever.

Whether his movie hit or flop, he is hit always. because you will never found him performing over-act. as far as his acting is concerned nobody can think better than it.

Ajay - The Unsung Hero !!!
Dec 22, 2008 09:05 PM

Its time to write a little bit about my favorite actor Ajay Devgan. Yes I said ACTOR, he is an actor more than he is a star and that will be. Remembering one of the quotes I read seomwhere, Hits of Flops Make or Break a Star, not an actor, and who better than Ajay Devgan to justify that statement.

He, his work and performances

Ajay Devgan, Off course no one who had seen his entry into bollywood would ever forget that. Stretching of 2 Motorbikes, with an Intense and Determined look on his face, he entered this space of high competition and low survival. With his first movie itself he created fan following for him, especially who were the lovers of death defying action sequences and a no-chocolate face, Me Included. His populatiry grew with 2 back2back Hits in Phool aur Kaante and Jigar which was again a fultoo entertaining high octane action drama. Result he was already in the league of big stars.

Then came an era where Ajay Discoved the Actor in him. Not that he was a bad actor before that, but then we all know there is a needle-hole difference between an actor and a great actor. With movies like Zakhm, HDDCS, PTHHT, Company and TLOBS in a span of 2-3 years made his one of the most reliable actors when it came down to performance. Takshak also joined the lists and working with likes of Govind Nihalani, Prakash Jha, RGV( at that time), Raj Kumar Santoshi, Raj Kumar Santoshi and Ritu Parno Sengupta is the dream of any actor, and Ajay has all of them in his resume. Now without seeing the good actor in him, these directors would have even not looked at him, but his stellar performances forced people to check him out as an actor. Later on Jha, Varma and Santoshi repeated him in n number of movies.

Ajay has worked with newbies like Rohit Shetty and Soham Shah( Fame KAAL) and given stellar, movie saving performances to them. Recently he stepped into the shoes of a director and made a gem named U Me aur Hum, where he churned out good performances from the cast, proving yet again that he has it in him. The 2 National Awards which form a part of his office showcase are enough to give others some burning hearts. Damn it even Amitabh Bachchan took 15 years between his 2 national awards.

He as a person:

Though I dont know him personally, but by his mannerisms and his behavior in the media he has always been a no-nonsense, non-controversial and no-crap celebrity which many of the so called self proclaimed Ghengis Khan of today lack. Being humble is one thing, but being honest is one. On the personal front also Ajay scores.

Overall - As I had read earlier somewhere, Ajay is the unsung warrior of the Khan Dome, slowly and steadily the underdog is making such a place for himself, which will prove a tough task for anyone to conquer.

All the best to Ajay and we know . u will get ur due one day.

True Talent
May 21, 2006 11:45 AM

I too am surprised that more ppl have not written about Ajay Devgan. The previous reviews have covered a lot about him...but I thought I would just put in my two cents. He is a gift to industry and very underrated. I guess that is also because he does what he is there to do-ACT-and leaves it at that. No other rubbish. There is this old movie of Ajay's...Gair (*ing Ajay, Amrish Puri, Raveena, Reena Roy) that repeats alot on the Dish here and every time I watch it I cannot help but admire him. He did an excellent job in Khakee...Deewangee...even Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam...and countless other movies.

His two best acting qualities are his incredible ability to deliver dialogues that really get to you---and that too w/out yelling screaming like some other actors-ehh Sunny Deol are you listening---and also his ability to maintain a cool calm composure in the most tense scenes. Makes you cringe.

I just hope he doesn't try anymore Dil Kya Kare or Raju Chacha's...I enjoy him much more in Khakee or even Pyar To Hona Hi Tha type productions. To me Ajay Devgan is well above the SRK's in the industry in terms of talent.

boise united states
Underrated genius
May 16, 2006 10:17 PM

It's sad to see only 4 reviews written on ajay devgan, The guy has received two national awards, been here for quite sometime now in bollywood, but still don't get his name called as one of the best actors of bollywood. He breathes the life into the character in the film khaake where he plays a don named ansari and even overshadows amitabh in the scene in the middle of the film.

Born on 2nd april 1970 ajay is a son of action director veeru devgan, so for him it wasn't a problem getting into the filmline. His father even helped cheographed the action scenes for the film sholay. AJay insists doing his own stunts in his films and he has broken his ankle twice. One other thing I like about ajay devgan is he stays away from interviews, parties and news as well. People like salman, sanjay dutt, shakti kapoor etc are on news for various reasons.

AJay's entry to bollywood was his first hit film phool aur kaante where he plays a son of don named nageshwar played by amrish puri, and ajay in his first film doesn't look like that he's a newcomer. He received his first award for the best debut. The film had good action by his father veeru devgan. Jigar was his next film the film is a copy of hollywood film called bloodport staring vandame, the movie was a hit and there was news about ajay devgan and karishma kapoor dating each other at that time.

Then ajay devgan had bad years with flop films like sangram, ek hi raasta, bedardi, divyashakti, platform, shaktiman, dhanwan, dil hai betaab wasn't working for him at all people had forgotten about him. Then he was signed in the film diwale by harry baweja the film went on to be a superhit and ajay played this mental person in the film and does a good job, although harry baweja films always had good music also. Next were three more hits film. Vijay path, suhaag and naajayaz were all went to do good business at the box office. Ajay proved to be a good fighter in all of his films.

Ajay is one of the best in doing emotional performances it started from the film jaan directed by raj kanwar where he plays a killer, Ajay gave one of his best performances in this film. I hated his performance in the film diljale the movie bombed also it had one of my favorite songs by udit narayan in the film, where ajay sings it in a college campus ho nahin sakta ho nahin sakta.

Ajay's performance in ishq proved he couldn't do comedy roles, that's what I noticed he was sleepwalking in that film, I began to like ajay devgan from the film pyar tu hona hi tha directed by aneez bazme. The same year he recieved a national award for the film zakham, I thought the year 1998 was ajay devgan year and manoj bajpai year, but the award was given to shahrukh khan for kuch kuch hota hai, ajay's been robbed the first for filmfare awards.

Next is another emotional performance in the film kache dhaage where he plays aftaab, that one thing good about the film the other is the haunting music by nusrat fateh ali khan with the right dose of punjabi words in the songs is the best thing happened to the film. HIs performance in hum dil de chuke sanam won him lot of applause, although the movie was copied from woh 7 din, salman was cool in the film as well, but 1999 was the year of sanjay dutt.

Next one is one of my favorite performances by ajay devgan in the film thakshak, where he plays ishaan singh this is very underrated movie and his underrated performance also, but I thought rahul bose did quite a job playing a psychotic character in the film. I thought deewane was also a good movie with a double of ajay devgan, the film has one of my favorite soundtracks also. His role as bulwa in the film lajja is also noteworthy and his friendship with rajkumar santoshi with this film.

Then came the year 2002, that was the devgan year with hits like company, deewange, and his national award winning performance for the film legend of bhagat singh proved ajay devgan to be a classic actor. Just the next 2003 he had a hit film bhoot with ramgopal varma, gaangajal with prakhah jha, and qayamat which I thought was a pretty dumb movie and should have been a flop was a hit. 2004 was still a good year for him with a hit film khaake and masti thought he had a small role and his role in yuva was well done also. AJay had some more flop movies in 2005 insaan, blackmail, tango charlie which I thought was exccellent, main aisa hi hoon and shikhar were all flops. One of the stupiest role ajay's ever took is in the film tarzaan, I caught about 20 minutes of that movies and that was enough seeing ajay devgan being invisible and driving a car.

But 2005 was the year where ajay gives his best performance in the film apahran, which I thought deserved all the awards it could, his portrayal of common man becoming a don is excellent, just like sanjay dutt's in the film vaastav scared at first evil at last.

Ajay devgan has a lot of movies coming this year omkara with saif ali khan and vivek oberoi.

golmaal which is a comedy with sharman joshi.

beenam with bhumika chawla

saman with akshay kumar and nana patekar directed by rajkumar santoshi.

gulel with sushmita sen

london dreams with salman khan and urmila

Other big news for ajay is he is playing the role of veeru in the remake of film sholay along with mohit alawat playing jai, amitabh playing gabbar, mohanlal playing thakur, sunil shetty playing sambha, rajpal yadav playing surma bhopali, katrina kaif playing radha, rani mukherje playing basanti. It's be a change in ajay devgan's career for doing comedy and I know he could do this role well also.

my 6 favorite roles.

  1. Apharan

  2. pyar tu hona hi tha

  3. zakhm

  4. company

  5. the legend of bhagat singh

  6. thakshak

HMMMMMMMM..........NOW THIS GUY I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HIM..........HE IS MR.INTENSITY......................HE SPEAKS WITH HIS EYES.........TRULY A MAN OF FEW WORDS............................WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT AJAY HE PROBABLY IS THE MOST UNDERRATED ACTOR AROUND..........THE REST ARE ALL OVERRATED...................... I HAVE WATCHED THIS FILM SEVEN TIMES I PERSONALLY WAS TOUCHED BY THE TREMENDOUS HEART WARMING AND SINCERELY TOUCHED OF AJAY'S PERFORMANCE.

IN THIS FILM.

IF AJAY DOES NOT WIN AWARD FOR THIS FILM FOR HIS ACTING.ETC

I WILL BE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. AJAY ADAPTS TO ANY ROLE OF ANY NATURE.

HE IS A VERY TALENTED AND A NATURAL IN ALL HIS ROLES.

I HAVE WORKED WITH PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS FOR MANY YEARS, AJAY HE WAS FANTASTIC, IT WAS GOOD TO SEE HIM WITHOUT A CIGARETTE IN HIS HAND.

HE PLAYED AND ADAPTED THE CHARACTER VERY WELL. I WONDER IF THEY WOULD CONSIDER AJAY TO PLAY THE LEADING ROLE OF THE CLASSIC FILM ''one flew over the cuckoo's nest'' THE ORIGINAL ACTOR WAS JACK NICHOLSON

THIS IS THE MAN I WOULD LOVE TO MEET. IF I

YES I DO HAVE ALMOST ALL HIS D.V.D'S

Ajay Devgan-The Shy Stricker!!
May 09, 2005 01:20 AM

Ajay Devgan, formerly known as Vishal Devgan is probably one of the very few Bollywood actors who can act out almost any role!!A true Bollywood phenomena who instantly got a great break-through and success from the very first movie!!

INTRODUCTION:

Ajay Devgan,is the eldest son of the famous and successful stunt-director Veeru Devgan.Born on the 2nd of April,a true Aerian!

Ever since he was a small boy,his father always wanted him to be an actor. He got his chance at the very delicate age of 18 with the movie ''Phool aur Kaante'' and became a huge success!

He dated Karisma Kapoor before his marriage to the very famous Bollywood actress Kajol!

A true shy guy at heart started out with all action movies but became famous as a romantic actor after Pyar To Hona Hi Tha!!

Hes even won two National Awards for his films Zakhm and the Legend of Bhagat Singh. He even won the Best Actor Award at the 50th Filmfare Award Ceremony!

He even produced his own movie Raju Chacha staring opposite his wife,Kajol!

CAREER:

Ajay Devgan kick-started his career with a close associate of his father Kukuji with the movie Phool aur Kaante in 1991 opposite Madhu. The film became a huge hit!Madhu continued her career with her performance in Roja and for Ajay it was just the beginning!!

The successful films that followed were Dilwale(94) which was again a big hit! Then Ishq(97),this movie was a romantic light comedy in which Ajay starred opposite Kajol!!

Hum Dilde Chuke Sanam in 1998 in which he co-starred with Aishwariya Rai gave him the push to the stardom!!In this he played a brilliant role as a loving husband!

Pyar To Hona Hi Tha in 1999,proved him to be a great emotional actor.

He won a National Award for acting for his performance in Zakhm,in which he acted brilliantly!Though, the Filmfare Awards didn't nominate him even for one of the categories, they were proven wrong when he won a bigger award!

His performance in The Legend of Bhagat Singh too barged him the National Award.

His other great movies include:

Raju Chacha=He played the role of Shekhar in a light comedy with his wife. This was his first production too.Though, the movie failed to make a mark at the box-office. Company=Though, the movie was about Vivek Oberoi,Ajay's performance left a huge mark too.

Chori Chori=Again a light romantic comedy opposite Rani Mukherjee.

Yuva=This movie was quite a hit and he did a great work in it.

Bhoot=A scary movie played opposite Urmila Mathonkar. He played the role of Urmila's husband.

Deewangee=One of my favourite performances of his.He played the role of Urmila's obsessed lover who played the role of the split-personality well!

Khakee=Another movie which was a hit!

His films Zameer,Lajja,LOC too were great!

His latest releases are Kaal and Main Aisa Hi Hoon were great. His performance in both are said to be great too!

CONCLUSION:

Ajay Devgan though one of the best actors of Bollywood is yet very under-rated.He proved everyone wrong when he was one of the very few actors who won not one but two National Awards.

A real true, honest and very down-to-earth actor who has won the hearts of so many people!

The Fall and Rise of An Expert
Oct 23, 2004 10:36 PM

Ajay Devgan's journey to success has been long and hard. He has toiled, gained success, toiled, fallen, cointinued to fall. His failure made it seem as if he was never going to return, let alone gain success. However, like a phoenix from the ashes he emerged so high that today he can be truly called a glowing star.

Unlike the majority of the stars, Ajay Devgan is an actor of substance. His talent shines every time he is on screen. Ajay Devgan's victory in Cinema has not been his destination but it has been his journey. Below I have reviewed some of the best performances Ajay Devgan has given.

Dilwale: This was one of the few movies which Ajay Devgan had given a remarkable performance during his earlier days. He plays a college youth turned mad in love. His acting talent was displayed almost perfectly in this movie. As the mad person confused in emotions he bought tears to many eyes. A wonderful performance!

Ishq: Contrast is the 1st rule of comedy. For there to be chemistry two people have to be different, where one is usually serious and silent and the other is funny and lively. The one whom is serious displays comedy without trying to and it is because of that person why a comic scene would work wonders. I always thought that Ajay Devgan is the type of person who would fit well in a silent and serious category in comedy movies. However, in Ishq, Ajay played his character very well. Even though Aamir Khan had a better role, Ajay was on par in performances. The scene where he broken, then mispalced the body parts of a statue is hilarious. His acting was incredible. Ishq is one of the few comedies which Ajay has attempted.

Zakhm: This role got him the National Award For Best Actor. Intense would be an understatement to describe his performance. The eyes of this actor speak what the sound of thunder fails to do. Playing the citizen in a religious crisis, Ajay had shattered any doubts about whether or not he was talented. His performance was superb.

Company: This role earned him so much acclaim. As the cool slick don of the underworld, Ajay played with his versatility. In the end he triumphed. It seemed as if there was no end to his talents. He proved that words do not need to be spoken for something to be said. His facial expressions earned him a best actor nomination in every awards ceremony.

Bhoot: His 2nd venture with RGV after Company, and Ajay again gave a very good performance. Even though this was Urmilla's movie all the way, Ajay held his ground as the troubled husband fighting for the life of his possessed wife.

Deewangee: No one. No one could replace Ajay in Deewangee. This performance was history in the making. A remake of Primal Fear, Deewangee was keenly anticipated. Ajay showed he had many more tricks up his sleeve. Even those who had seen Primal Fear, thought that Deewangee would not show Ajay as a killer, because Ajay's innocent performance in the 1st half was so convincing. He was even more menacing as the psychopath. I would want to see an actor try and beat this performance.

Khakee: Again playing a villain, Ajay played the bent cop with no values. As the mysterious Angre, he proved his talents were wandering near to that of Amitabh Bachan's. This performance would have been ruined by any other performer because he would have hammed it. But Ajay is not just anyone. He is an expert.

Lajja: Playing the village rebel, Bulba, Ajay stood tall in a number of famous faces. He adapted to a different accent as if it was child's play and with his zeal, he became a favourite of Rajkumar Santoshi.

LOC: Approximately 30 actors, but his performance was the best. Any critic or reviewer will never review LOC without mentioning Ajay's performance. As a patriot he did full justice to Shaheed Manoj Pandey.

Zameer: Colonel Ranveer Singh Ranawat. This role was similar to 1 or 2 of the others he had played. However, it was a spellbinding performance loved by all. The tone of his voice extracted many whistles and claps.

Pyar To Hona Hi Tha: His chemistry with Kajol was brilliant. Ajay here attempted comedy and romance and even won the best actor award at one of the awards ceremony. His performance was overlooked by many even though it showed the developing of a true actor.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam: His best romantic performance till date. His outbreak on learning that his wife loves someone else was a brilliant scene. His emotions which he conveyed won the hearts of millions. And I am sure that for all those who have seen HDDCS eagerly wanted Aishwarya to go back to Ajay in the end.

Yuva: He played the role of Michael Mukherji. Many had thought he was a miscast. However those ingorant people failed to realise that he was not performing the role of an 18yr old college boy. He was actually a 25 year old Ph.D student. His character was highly impactful and it was another feather in his cap of excellence.

The Legend of Bhagat Singh: His best performance till date. I do not know whether he will ever overcome it. This performance in my view will give any other performance of the decade a run for its money. He truly lived the patriot, and righteously won the National Award for the Best Actor. It was a shame to see the FILMFARE AWARDS CEREMONY DID NOT NOMINATE TLOBS FOR EVEN ONE CATEGORY.

He is one of the 3 actors of recent times to have one 2 national awards. Sunny Deol won it for best actor in Ghayal and best supporting actor in Damini. Manoj Bajpai won it for best actor in Pinjar and best supporting actor in Satya. This makes Ajay the only actor to have won the national award twice for the best actor category. This milestone is something which Bollywood should be proud of. I am eagerly awaiting his next release Raincoat.
