Dell Vostro 3400 ... be cautious
Oct 31, 2010 01:15 PM

I have recently bought a Dell Vostro 3400 with Intel I5 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 7 64 Bit OS.I wanted to buy a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS with 6GB RAM I was not able to find any product at retail market. I gave a call to HP and Dell. HP's customer support person was too friendly and she really helped me to identify the product which perfectly matches my requirement. But I need to wait for a very long time. Then I tried to contact Dell, surprisingly there was no response at all for Small Business Laptops. Then I have ordered my laptop online. It boasts a 14 inch monitor, nice keyboard with backlit feature, 3USB ports, good video. Audio is utter poor and the placement of Optical Drive is also not the apt one. Inserting and removing CDs are painful . Sensitive audio controls behind the keyboard is too good. Look, weight, display, connectivity are good. Support, Optical Drive position, Audio are too poor. I had an Acer Extenza with 2GB RAM 250GB HDD with outperforms Dell in all the departments including customer support, audio...

Wait & update this post for performance

Verdict: Before you buy double think or check HP/Acer laptops.

Regards

Raj

The dell and its adoptor
Jun 14, 2010 08:28 PM

I bought a dell vostro 1015, which is just equivalent to the 1014 laptops. It has just good looks .It comes in red or blue colours. It comes pre- loaded with linux system ubuntu. Moreover, the operating system can be upgraded to windows 7. It has got 5 card reader which can be used to read after any of the cards available in the market. But after 3 months of use its adopter got burnt out.

At last it is good for money but bad on quality. I will rather suggest you to go for studio laptops or inspiron laptops with i5 or i70 pentium chips.

Excellent product from Dell
Apr 26, 2010 03:25 PM

Dell Vostro 1510 is business class laptop. i'm using this product from last 2 years and I still love this. Things which I like most about this1. Body Strength.. 2-3 times laptop falls from my bed, and nothing happens to the lap. as the company said, this model is fitted with more resisted body, I am totally  agree

  1. Features- 4 USB PORT, cd/dvd writer, Music keys and many more

Don't like: I can say design.Overall, I love this. but people who give preference to style first, may skip this solid product.2. charger point. I also noticed same problem in other vostro 1510 model. Cracks come in the charger lead, which we insert into the lappy charger point. You may need to purchase new charger adapter cost 700 after 1.5 yr.

Overall, i'm happy and will recommend.

A great buy & my first lappy
Mar 18, 2010 12:00 PM

Before buying my first laptop, I was quite apprehensive. Then after a lot of shop visits, rate & function checking, we zeroed on Dell Vostro A840. It's  more than a year that we have bought it & it has made me more than happy!!! If you are working from home or thinking of buying a laptop for the first time, this brand is never going to dishearten you.

The battery is strong It stays for 3.0 hours precisely but it depends upon the daily usage. Its strong, durable, black with soft keypads. I just love it. Anybody in a budget mode but looking for some great performance & quality, do buy this laptop.

Its a true value for your money:-)

Best for starters with low budget
Mar 10, 2010 03:22 PM

I planned to buy a laptop just for the reason I have to go Korea for deputation and there will be no medium of entertainment\communication inside residency. In start I plan to take 10.1” laptop which was coming for less then 20000 Rs, because personally I don’t like laptop as I have PC at home bt as I am going out so its necessarily. I saw many model in 10.1” I start with acer, then Samsung but the resolution was not good in that small size of screen. So I reschedule my budget and then again started my search for a cheap laptop with atleast config of 2 GB ram & 160 GB HDD.

I finalize many product, I review acer 4736z, Compaq 601 TU, Compaq 604 TU, Dell inspiron 14, and many more. Then I shortlist some model like acer 4736Z, Compaq 601 TU & Dell inspiron 14(as I didn’t review Dell vostro 1014 till date) and start my search for these on net, I spent my 10 days in finding the best deal, I check user’s online review and compare with others for better one. I found Acer is having big problem in service and display I don’t know why but I checked on net that the service is not good also the shortcut keys on keyboard doesn’t work. For Compaq the name sounds so old with the functions and design. Also it is heavy then Dell. Dell as everyone knows it’s a international brand with better quality, also it is providing one year onsite service in the same price.

Last week I went to Nehru Place Delhi to see the price and the product, there I found Dell Vostro 1014 a mehroon color 14” laptop with stunning look.I think it is the only laptop with Core 2 Duo which comes for less then 28000 Rs.There are two option comes in dell vostro 1014. One with 2 GB\250 GB, C2D & 2.1 GHz which comes around 28000 and another one comes with 4 GB\320 GB, C2D & 2.3 GHz comes around 33000 Rs.

After another one week I finally planned to buy one and I went to Nehru place again as most of the delhi\ NCR people prefer Nehru place market for any computer deal. I check many shop 4 suitable price and finally I got it a new mehroon color cool 14” with 2 GB ram, 250 gb HDD, C2D 2.1 GHz.

Main thing I read on website that it doesn’t support XP, its not completely true. I installed win XP with all the drivers on the next day I bot. And it is working smoothly, I will suggest every1 to buy if the budget is less then 30000 Rs. If you are from NCR delhi I suggest you to go Nehru place because I bought it in 27600 from Nehru place while I am getting the same model & same spec in 32500 from Gurgaon.

Few limitation are also there like it doesn’t have shortcuts on keyboard, and speaker is mounted at the bottom so that the voice hides under your laps.

DELL VOSTRO 1310
Dec 04, 2009 02:41 PM

I am using dell vostro 1310 from last 9 mounts

Dear friend ti is very good in working.

But its voice is pathetic you can not here in room. Three time Dell service support had changed ths speaker but new speaker works for month properly then.

system relies that speaker is very small and voice started to crack and lot of disturbance.

you can not hare the voice in closed room even.

And customer support says you it is for headphone use. I ask them if they designed the system for headphone then why they had given the spike in it.

grate experience  in cost of 430000 INR.

Dell Vostro 1400-good for the tech savvy
Oct 22, 2009 01:00 PM

I got the laptop(Dell Vostro 1400) a year back...its one of the value for money products as far as the quality, service and durability is concerned..

The after sales service is very good and it takes hardly 2 days to get replaced the faulty parts by the Dell Inc. at your doorstep after making a complaint online to the representatives of the company....

As far as the price is concerned its a value for money product(but as of now the product is not available in the market). one thing which can annoy you is the heating problem og the palm pad which is very much common in the Dell Laptops...when talk about the durability...

This product is quite durable and can long for 3-4 years without any major issue. The best part is the after sales service and politeness of the representatives. Battery is also gud as compared to the other laptops of the same category as I am also having ACER Aspire 4720Z. Battery gives the backup of 2.5-3 hrs backup which is fairly good...All in all its a gud product for all

Better among the lot....
Sep 30, 2009 07:13 PM

I purchased my Vostro 1500 nearly one and a half years back. It was my first laptop and my needs and expectations were purely for academic purpose (though I should say... I wanted it to run standard games)... the one aspect I like about dell is that you can configure it ..(who doesnt like choices??).

Atleast for me, I can say I am satisfied with the product. The only problem I had in the past one and half years was with the adaptor (power chord).... the adaptor developed a loose connection (could be due to my handling..) which is a recent development. I have contacted dell for a replacement. the service ..i would not call it excellent...but then is satisfactory.

About the laptop specifically, I believe it can sustain a little rough handling, though I personally handle it with care. It is compatible with netgear and linksys network instruments. Dell definitely scores over HP/compaq and acer; which were used by my brother and friend. The compaq developed heatsink problems and would shut down at high temperatures ( nothing of that sort has occured while I used the dell).

This is my first review, so I am not sure if I have covered all aspects of a laptop...but hope it is useful.. P.S : whichever laptop you buy, do make sure to check the warranty and the cost of extending it later on. Dell has quoted me Rs8000 for a one year complete cover. Have no clue if his is cheap or expensive relative to other companies !!!!

Great way to enter mobile computing
Apr 30, 2009 12:41 PM

Now lets say you are in the hunt for an entry level model which offers you almost everything... you will soon discover that the net books are inadequate as they have very small screens and have no optical drives. The lifestyle laptops offer some extra features but at a real hike in price.

So the choice is then a business notebook. Of all of them at reasonable price (less than 30K) I found the Dell Vostro the coolest looking with a glossy black exterior. It comes with an adequate dual core (better than celerons)and with 1 gb of system memory and 120gb of HDD space.

I upgraded to 2 gb and got vista in place of the bundled Ubuntu. Been using the laptop for the last 6 months with no complaints what so ever. The keyboard flexes a bit though and does not give the same unbreakable feel as a HP. The screen is really great with the non-reflecting coating. The viewing angle is also reasonable. The laptop is also relatively light weight and sturdy enough to sustain months of lugging around.Vista runs without a hitch though it takes a while to boot.

Have used it for games..silent Hill 4 , NFS and it works fine at the lower resolution setting. Softwares of the Office bundle being not as resource intensive runs fine.Surfing the net is as easy as any other comp.connectivity is great with bluetooth, built in Lan, wi fi access and card reader. The laptop is overall a good budget buy and will suffice for most homeusers looking for a dependable no nonsense machine.

Dell Vostro 1500
Apr 23, 2009 09:17 AM

Buy Dell if you want to go to hell. I bought Dell Vostro Laptop 1500 a year ago, as they had given an so called incredible offer. A core 2 duo laptop with a dedicated graphics card in a price just of about 50, 000 was hard to find last year.

I checked on several models like Lenovo, Sony, Compaq and HPand Acer and HCL. HCL and Acer did not match my specs at any of the models and if Sony did it was close to a 1 lac in price. Lenovo- they look cool and claim to be music notebooks with shuffle keys but the volume of their so called surround sound is very low. Specs Wise only Dual core without any graphics card was available within 50k.

Compaq and HP was good in looks as well as sound, but there were problems like they were not giving any OS or drivers for the matter. And I Don't think HP has a good repute in the market.

What lead me buy a Dell Vostro was:- The Specifications as below:-Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6Ghz)1GB 677Mhz DDR2 SDRAM120G 5400RPM Hard Drive nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, 256MB8x DVD Burner with Double Layer capability 15.4” widescreen anti-glare screen (1280x800)Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)Dell Wireless 1505 Mini-Card (Pre-802.11n)85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic

Besides all these hardware they also offered a good deal ofs/w package like (The thing I liked most is that dell gives you DVD’s of thes/w from where you can reinstall any software even if you completely format your hard disk. Most company’s have a partition in your HDD which stores the recovery files and they give you a DVD which helps you in restoring that data from the backup recovery partition.2 reasons I don’t like first being the hdd space being eaten up, and god forbid my entire hdd can crash what then or maybe catch a boot sector virus)

Original Vista DVD

Recovery DVD (in case you wanted to go back to factory installation instead of your own customized installation with the Vista DVD from microsoft). Separate DVD with all drivers for XP and Vista. Mcafee 2008 I year subscription. Roxio and Cyberlink pre licensed OEM version. On the warranty they provided me

You just can't purchase a Dell Vostro in Bangalore
Apr 21, 2009 05:33 PM

I tried my level best to purchase a dell vostro laptop. Actually I trying this for the last 3 weeks. Their response in pathetic. I saw one advertisement in DNA news paper and called the given number.

They directed me to another number. After three levels of re-directions I reached Dell Sales point in Croma, Eva Mall, Brigade Road, Bangalore. They simply told me that they don't cell lower end laptops. From that day onwards, wherever I reach either directly or by phone, I'am getting same answer from the Dell people. I wonder, if they donot want to sell Vostro laptop, why do they advertise in the first place?

And I feel Rs. 33, 000/- is not a throw away price. To hell with Dell, I will never call then or try to purchase their products. To purchase it self I'm facing many problems, God knows what will be your problems when you go for service.

Dell vostro 1400
Dec 10, 2008 03:35 PM

The Dell no doubt leaders in computers and laptop. However the vostro series from the stable of Dell is a formidable companion for a person on move requiring computing needs. Its an ideal combination of power and verstality.

I happened to purchase this product more than a year back(remember when laptops used to cost a bit more than usual). The machine still is scratch free despite my rugged use and tendency to carry it along on long weekend holidays.

It comes pretty settled woth Vista Busines. However I tried it with Win XP and believe with the hell lot of power that comes along with Vostro. The Xp OS just flies unimaginably. It just fires the machine on all its exhaust.

The customer support of Dell is terrific I subscribed for extended warranty at the time of purchase and its a all in one bundled warranty.and I am glad to have spent a couple of extra thousand for it.As I had been provided with excellent customer support both in terms of service support as well as replacement/shipment of required accessories

DELL NOTEBOOK - QUITE A PAIN
Jul 01, 2008 10:48 AM

I also purchased a DELL Vostro 1000 in August last year. The product appears to be fine but my unit has been giving odd problems. From october/ november itself, the unit used to hang once in 10-15 days and it had to be rebooted. Around April the problem started happening 1-2 times in a day and then I contacted DELL service. After some time of asking me to carry out checks and loading various drivers and doing diagnostics, finally the Motherboard itself was replaced.

While doing this, one of the keys came out of the keyboard. The technician said that the keyboard will be repaced. Great. So I waited for a few days. But there was no response. So I contacted them again and then it was done in a few days time.

It appeared to be working fine when after a few days the digit ’5’ started geting typed on its own on all the applications and files that were opened. It has been another 15 days exercise doing checks and other nonsense.

They say that the keyboard has to be replaced again.

IS THE UNIT GOING TO BE STABLE WITH ALL THESE REPLACEMENTS?

ALSO, WHO IS GOING TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LOSS OF VALUABLE TIME FROM WORK DUE TO ALL THIS NONSENSE.

IT IS NOTHING SHORT OF SHEER HARRASSMENT IN USING SUCH A MACHINE THAT TROUBLES MORE THAN IT HELPS OUT IN ONE’S WORK.

BEING A MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT, EVERY MINUTE OF MY TIME MATTERS. AND HERE I HAVE BEEN EITHER CARRYING OUT CHECKS OR WAITING FOR THESE GUYS TO MAKE ALL THESE REPLACEMENTS FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS.

THEIR SERVICE GUYS SAY - THIS IS THE BEST THAT WE CAN DO. ANY ELECTRONIC PRODUCT CAN BE EXPECTED TO HAVE SOME RUNNING DEFECTS AND THAT IS WHY WE ARE PROVIDING YOU WITH WARRANTY.

I AM DEEPLY INDEBTED TO THEM FOR HELPING ME SPEND RS. 40000/- ON A MACHINE THAT CAN BE EXPECTED TO GIVE TROUBLE....DO WE CALL THIS A WOW EXPERIENCE????

Best deal at this price
Oct 02, 2007 07:35 PM

I purchased the recently launched Vostroo1000 DELL Notebook in Mid Sept. 2007 which I think is a great value for money.   2Gb RAM, VISTA business, 3 yrs McAfee subscription and Dual core AMD Turion, 1.8Gzh, 15.4 inch monitor, external FDD drive  and some more extras after up gradation + AMC ex. Kolkata comes to around Rs. 48, 800/- approx. all inclusive. Because of Kolkata location the tax component jacked up the price.

I was a bit apprehensive after hearing some of the horror stories of the after sales support in Kolkata, but having taken the plunge I am happy now. Right from collection of the cheque from my doorstep to delivery there was absolutely no complaints. After delivery a junior engineer from Wipro called on me to help me to unnpack and get the ball rolling.

Post delivery I wanted to further partition my hard disk, (this should have been specified at the time of order placement) even then there was no problem. I was instructed on line and over the phone step by step from Dell India HQ to get the job done. I was literally attended to 'hand and foot'.

In Kolkata the maintenance service is provided either virtually by net or on site by Wipro. I was told that soon they are going to open a hub/ showroom in Kolkata.Only down side is that the machine seems a bit sluggish while booting and you should preferably have a broadband net connection.
