One of the best laptop I have ever seen
May 03, 2015 03:28 PM

Recently I bought Apple MD761HN/B 13-inch Laptop(Core i5/ 4GB/ 256GB/ Mac OS X, Mavericks/ Intel HD Graphics 5000/without Laptop Bag) from amazon at 70, 000 rs.

This is one of the best laptop I have ever seen. Very stylish and sleek in design and performance is very good. it takes only 10 seconds to reboot and also very fast in installing software, and also give battery backup of 12 hours which is surprisingly amazing.

Built quality is also impressive because it built with aluminium body. its having 256 gb solid state drive which is very fast then normal hard drive. You should definitely buy mac book air.

A Beauty Everyone Wants To Own!
Apr 21, 2015 11:48 AM

Having said that(the title) the Macbook Air comes with a hefty price tag. It packs the latest 5th generation Intel processors and have 11 and 13 inch variants that Apple promises to last the whole day.

With the latest OS X Yosemite your Air will come bundled with the latest editions of applications as well as some new ones too.

Fellas, the Macbook Air is a high maintenance girlfriend(I AM NOT BEING SEXIST HERE) that you want to have but can't due to its fragility and limited usage.

It is a beauty. Sheer BEAUTY!

Cheers!:)

Macbook Air OS X Yosemite Battery Problems
Dec 13, 2014 02:34 AM

Friends, Apple released its new OS called Yosemite recently. Many costumers might be having problem in using it.

It is a normal problem and in fact Yosemite is so easy to use even my grandmother will use it easily. But, the problem lies in the battery issue. With Yosemite, it seems, battery is draining so quickly.

Actually, Macbook Air 13" should be giving 12 hour(as per the promise) of backup starts loosing its strength and works for 7 about hours only.

Most of us think that it is because of new OS. Actually, it is not. It is because of the setting problem with our system.

We have to reset our system's SMC(System Management Controller). Guys, reset it, if you are facing the same problem. Steps are simple.

Join Macbook with power cable. Close all the applications and shut it down. Then, press Shift+Command+Control+Power button to restart the system.

You will see the effect in 2 minutes. The battery will last for more than 11 hours. Try it. If it works, please do not forget to rate my views. Thanks.

Most beautiful laptop i used
Oct 26, 2014 11:26 PM

Requirements - I5, 500 GB, Full HD, ultra thin form factor, light weight and uber cool:) budget 40k neg. Optional a touch screen as it seemed the in thing.

I am a regular home user. I had a Sony Vaio I3 machine which was stolen and hence decided I will buy a minimum of an I5 due to the performance issues I faced with my Sony Viao.

Exploration - I somehow predecided that Dell would be my choice due to the support and price they are popular for, still wanted to explore. The first one to decide to buy was an Asus which had met all my requirements of the config, size, weight and portability. On further digging Lenovo flex met all my needs at around 48k. Most of the current 2014 models are bulky and the ultra books are non existent. I did not find any sleek and thin laptops in the market, even if they were shamefully priced around a lakh.

When I bought the Vaio I had planned to use it for both home use, for installing SAP and may be some kind of R & D, in practicality nothing was done either due to the slowness of the system or my laziness.

With lack of options in the Windows world and my heart on Macbook air for ages, decided to explore the Apple range. While I always prefer the ultra complicated, most advanced, most expensive configuration when it comes to electronics, the sleek design of Air let me eliminate the PRO models instantly.

Finally I broke into the Apple world with my purchase of a 13inch Macbook Air two months back.

The Experience - Anybody with an eyesight and bare minimum common sense would agree that the Air is the most sexy looking laptop, ultra thin form factor, sleek design, feather light weight, space age looking aluminium body will definitely sweep anyone.

Display - In common language the whites are really white and the blacks are really black, this sets apart from the other competitors, the display is not retina but is satisfactory if you are not obsessed with ultra definition movies or photos. 1440*900 is still better than some of the 90k models I saw. The fonts are very clear, can't compare again with retina.

Performance - I never knew macs boot up and shutdown such ultra fast. Good news for lazy ones is that you don't really need to shutdown your mac, the sleep mode is pretty effective. I do shut it down in the conventional way:). For day to day use you will never feel its not powerful enough or wouldn't even feel that you should have gone for a Pro model. The graphics are very smooth, you can find it out when browsing your pictures that the zoom in literally takes no time and is silky. I am not a gamer so I haven't tried any high def games. Tried watching some movies in HD and pretty satisfied, its just that the defined config says its not full hd and you imagine it might be better, but I dint find the movies or my camera pictures less clearer than the full hd TV / playstation I have. Hours of use or abuse I don't see any heat coming out, this is opposite in contrast to my Sony Vaio which literally used to burn my thighs, and was worst when it was being charged. Wifi range is good, it detects different wireless networks which I normally don't see on my dell, not a good example but never felt that wifi was weak. The inbuilt camera is decent, though I have not facetimed yet.

Battery - Needless to say I think this is the longest running laptop with around 7-11 hours of normal use. I recently upgraded to Yosemite version of the Mac OS and seems like the battery is draining quicker now, but initially it easily gave me around 9 hours with normal use. The charge happens in less than an hour.

Storage - This is the most pathetic part of the Mac air - it has a meagre 128 / 256 option which is very expensive. When I unpacked the Mac free space was around 90Gb. I still had to consider this due to the price difference and spent additional 4k on an external hard disk which I hate to connect as it defeats the purpose of ultra portability. The data transfer though I don't have exact test numbers, pretty decent. The SSD doesn't generate any noise or vibrations.

Usability - I have used windows all my life starting from ver 3, but surprisingly this migration was pretty easy, I dint find it difficult at all infact now I don't feel the need of the mouse, I am still yet to learn all the keyboard shortcuts. So prospective buyers don't need to worry about the usability. The track pad has multi gesture, which I have noticed windows has copied recently, but these multi gesture moves eliminate the need of mouse.

Compatibility - For home users who are mostly into browsing, shouldn't have an issue, The innovative lot who explore trying to install a variety of windows apps will find it an issue on the Mac. Most of the applications have a version for the Mac and hence shouldn't be an issue. Almost all the devices should comfortably connect to the Mac, so feel free to connect those camera's, phones, tabs etc.

Price - This is a mixed feeling for me, I strongly feel if it atleast had around 256 gb in the base model, undoubtedly this is the best looking, high performing sleek laptop in all of the ultrabooks available. If there are no issues for the next two years then definitely its value for money as with most of the win upgrades you would have noticed you need a faster system.

Overall - I would like to conclude that is the most beautifully built laptop I have ever seen, one can just stare at the body for hours, the performance is equally great and not just the looks or the brand value. If you don't want a basic model and have a bit of money to spare then definitely there is no need to have a second thought to buy this.

11.6" Air mid 2013 - the perfect little Mac
Oct 28, 2013 04:47 PM

Bought this about a month ago after doing a lot of research. The 11.6" is a little unconventional but the form factor makes it a perfect companion on the go. Weighing in at just 1.08kgs, the ultra slim uni-body Macbook air sports a 4th gen 1.3ghz Intel i5 Haswell processor along with 4gb of high speed RAM+ 128GB SSD. Might seem less but trust me, its good enough. In an era where we have our data hosted on the cloud & on portable HDD / pen drives, the machine has sufficient space.

Boots up in less than 12 seconds & shuts down in 2-3 secs flat - ain't that impressive! The back lit keyboard is a blessing along with Apple's touch-pad. I just upgraded to ios 10.9 mavericks which made my system even faster. I consistently get close to 9 hrs of battery life and with software's like keynote, pages & numbers (which come free)+ iLife, I still have close to 98GB free.

That's after I have 2 movies & 200 songs loaded.

I would totally recommend this machine.

13" air for rs. 65k from snapdeal
Oct 08, 2013 05:46 PM

Got our 1st mac for a good deal since i've noticed 11" Macbooks selling for the same price in stores around Navi Mumbai. took it on 0% emi with 0 fees to ease the pinch from snapdeal.

all ultrabooks should have backlit keyboards - its so much easier to type in low light settings.

hopefully apple will add a touchscreen next year since that's the only thing I missed. i have never used a touch notebook before just ipad2 and iphone 3gs but my finger unconsciously touched the screen!

i guess I assumed all apple products would be touch enabled...

cons:

  1. obviously the price is almost double compared to ultra-books but the apple software is awesome for photo / video editing so there is some hidden value there.

  2. the strange charger is not as well designed - I was expecting it to be compatible with the new lightning connector [8 pin?] or even the old 30 pin but this is a different form factor.

you don't get the positive feedback of windows laptops when plugging in and it seems a bit flimsy / unsure.

  1. the buttonless touchpad looks cool but takes a little getting used to for macbook newbies [command click for right click, etc]

the lower half of the pad seems to be easier to click than the top half so I ended up using both hands for speed.

  1. everyone who handled it for the 1st time tries to use their nails to pry it open not realising there is a notch inset on the bottom half [keyboard] to allow for easy opening of the slim edges.

maybe this notch should be on the top for better visibility but apple would never ruin the good looks just to make our lives easier!

some of you may have noted a 3 star rating above, here's what it would take to make it a 5/5, IMO:

[i] a touch screen [air touch?]

[ii] iphone compatible charger / lightening connector / 8 pin and getting rid if the 'fugly' box shown in the image above since sleek design is supposed to be apple mantra / USP.

at this premium price, apple should throw in a car charger or wireless mouse or extended warranty at the customer's choice since they will never discount anytime soon [at least not in india].

PS:

for the product details, I don't even know the cpu 'type', speed, or even ram for the air 13" and honestly don't even care!

Not upto the mark
Oct 05, 2013 06:55 PM

As many other I was also a blind  believer in apple product. I had the iphone and then I bought the apple air. although first it looked amazing. In fact some features are really very good. The major challenge at first was to learn how to use.

Then came the software and the last came the charger which was my first nightmare. after spending so much money I thought it will be different from other companies laptops but that was not the case. till one year as per my experience every thing works great for every laptop but as the time passes it does not look good. the same thing happened with me. The charger went off.

The battery life now was not so great after a year which is same with every one. then the charger was not able to charge the battery. I had to go and buy another charger which costed me like anything since the original was of value. so in the long run I think all the laptops are the same. but still I will recommend as it has some edge when you are giving presentation to your clients.

Macbook air - only air no substance
Sep 28, 2010 05:31 PM

I used to be a blind fan of APPLE products till the day when my mac air started giving problems after eight months of purchase.

From that day I am still ruing the fact why did I spend a bomb in purchasing mac air. First its too slow by any standards. Secondly, it gets heated up to  a point that it can burn your fingers.

Thirdly the fan can start making so much noise that an exhaust fan too cant make.

Fourthly GOD forbid if something stops working outside warranty and you are in INDIA.

My mac air stopped working normally and I had to give it to a service center in imagine store in Forum mall in Bangalore. These people kept investigating for the problem for over 1 month. Imagine the height of problem that was present that they had to keep it under observance for almost one month and even then they could not find a problem and I had to take back forcibly the laptop from repair center after a point when they even stopped picking my calls. They had done some RAM/Power reset and had applied some liquid on the processor. After which the macair started working but would make so much noise as if an exhaust fan does. So I stopped using it in office.

After two months of repair the laptop totally stopped booting. Yeah the D day had come . As it was the costliest thing I owned I was having some financial problems I kept it in my showcase for almost 2-3 months. By God's grace my financial condition normalized and then I took it to a Apple showroom in Jayanagar.  They were happily charging me Rs 1500. No not for my full body diagnosis. Just a laptop's diagnosis. I somehow convinced them to charge Rs1000.

After the diagnosis they came to know about the fan is not working and that it has to be replaced. They charged another Rs 2200 (no no .... not for the replacing all fans in my 1BHK house ) just for replacing mac air fan and told me to vanish for another 5 days. I reappeared at the showroom after 5 working days and they again said me to vanish for another week as there was shortage of apple mac air magical fans.

One fine Monday they broke the silence and called me up and happily announced the fan has been replaced Sir. I was glad. I told when to come and collect the laptop. They answered no no .... not yet.

Its still not booting. WOW http://www. Full month gone and spending Rs 3200 they were able to repair a laptop which was still not booting. Super I asked them what next. They told my hard disk has bad sectors. So What. SO they will have to format the SYSTEM. Yeah I was seeing the real end of all my Picture Libraries.. Ahhh lost... All my work related DATA lost ... yes.. And they had to format the system. After that I was able to use the system but without all my pic libraries etc.

Services of Apple partners in India still need lots of improvement. Its not of that quality that they charge.

Before purchasing any apple product you must at least checkout the cost /list of repair parts etc. And if you are not in Ambani's league please avoid it. Or atleast ensure that your laptop is never out of warranty, even if it means shedding 14k for couple of years.. it will still save u the pain and tension of a component failure like mine.
