As we were having ice creams a pretty lass approached Sajith and asked whether he was Sajith. That was a sweet surprise Moumita gave us. As the clock ticked away we were beginning to get more familiar with each other. And by that time the PJ’s had started to make its way through the conversation. Praveen and Sajith were a real sport and provided all the entertainment they could (you have already read about what kind of entertainment I am talking about…ahem…ahem).
And suddenly someone had this bright idea that Bengali’s are into singing so I should sing a Rabindra sangeet. I had learnt music no doubt but come on the last time I had sung in front of a crowd was some 6 years back during my ragging in college. Well I felt the same way this time too.
I looked nervously at everyone, half expecting them to break into a laugh and say that they were kidding. But everyone looked eagerly at me expecting something which I had no idea of. Suddenly I could not remember a single Rabindra sangeet let alone sing at. And Atul was already ready armed with his guitar to play the background score. When I saw there was no escape I prepared myself for the worst.
Closed my eyes and began to sing (well I guess u can call it singing though) with my voice cracking at strategic points I wished the earth would open up and gobble me somehow. But that too didn’t happen and I had to finish the terrible song. I was visibly surprised when people actually appreciated me for my efforts:).
The next surprise was from Dev ji. He had quietly gone and ordered hot butter corns for all of us. Nothing better than hot sweet corns on a winter afternoon. We talked and talked for ages yet we did not seem to run out of topics. From star writers of MS, how one joined MS, meaning of our respective MS id’s, how much each of us weighed (of course they were good enough not ask us girls about the same!!), politics, 26/11, and of course Dostana. Infact as you know by know from Sajith’s post, somehow the infamous ‘Dostana’ had become the agenda of the day. No one missed a chance to pick at Praveen. Especially after Moumita’s comment on his interest on her hubby and eventually Sajith shifting from praveen’s side to mineJ. Our jolly good Santa made us laugh as usual sometimes with his expressions (check out the pics) and sometimes with the stories he had in store. The quietest member of the group was perhaps Dhiraj. He was probably trying to figure out everything. Akash appeared a bit shy to me (no offence meant). He had this wonderful smile on his face all the time but was a bit composed.
People like Neeru, Tanna, Shalu who couldn’t join us kept in touch with us through conf calls. Unfortunately I missed talking to Tanna somehow. But the other two ladies were really sweet. Especially Neeru, instead of being unwell cared enough to call us. And Shalu I must say again you have a very sweet voice. Wished you could join us even in the Mumbai meet.
We were so engrossed in talks that we hardly noticed we were way ahead of the closing time of the meet. Moumita had some work so she left at 6. Akash and Dhiraj also left soon. After that 6 of us were left, but that did not deter us from carrying on with the same enthu and zeal. A round of cutting chai followed. By that time we had gelled so well that no more did I feel like being the only girl in the group. Everyone was like a kid out there and it felt like it was the first day at college and we were meeting new friends.
Atul sang a farewell song to mark the end of the meet. And we all joined in with him. We did not care what people thought about us, we were completely lost in feeling of togetherness.
Finally we exchanged our contact numbers and promised to keep in touch. With some final leg pulling, comments and quips we all said goodbye to each other and went our way.
But that was not the end of the story that is just the beginning of a wonderful friendship which will continue till we are.
The Mumbai MS meet was just another way to make us feel, people need not belong to the same, region, religion, age or sex to be good friends. Just your heart needs to be at the right place to feel the warmth of a relation known as ‘friendship’.
Thank you all for being there and making it a grand success!!
Cheers for the Mumbai dare devils!!
We will meet again soon!!
Love you all :)
