“Aamir, stop endorsing coke”
Of course there is no doubt you are a genius. The first ad showed a doubtful Bengali Ammir
babu conducting tests and his wifey showing that results comparable to European standards
too – it had hardly any takers.
While now he goes ahead to assure you the extra bit by gulping a bottle of Coke fearlessly
on TV, and this has done the trick.
This second ad has made its mark and Coke is now back.
But every time I see Amir Khan telling me that Coke is safe, I wonder if I believe him, or
if anyone really believes him.
The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has twice reported the issue with results
showing that some soft drinks have pesticide residues 23 times more than the bench mark set
for drinking water.
So for Aamir this may be an irresponsible act.
Of course, celebrities do this all the time – its unlikely that Shahrukh drives a Santro in
real life, or that Rani Mukherjee is a 24 by 7 chain Munch addict.
So why am I choosing to ask this only to Aamir? The reasons:
He is acutely selective about his roles
His mass appeal is tremendous
His reputation is clearly of a socially responsible citizen
Aamir Khan had of course announced that he will be looking into the issues surrounding Coca-Cola in India.
However the facts surrounding Coca-Cola’s operations in India speak for themselves.
Producing soft drinks isn’t by its nature environment friendly.
The famous yoga master Swami Ramdev Maharaj’s “Thanda Matlab toilet cleaner” is ultimately bound to be the hard truth (pesticides or not!), but I feel that in this livberal world let’s give these soft drinks a chance - we usually give everything in life to chance. (think!)
Before we get paranoid, let’s not go head over heels with the findings. Perhaps we drink
pesticides all the time.
And if this contamination is happening in all sectors, so why single out Coca Cola?
Somewhere on this planet soap brands are found to have chemicals that slowly damage the skin of the user.
Butter and cheese has traces of poisonous chemicals.
Soups are slowly poisoning you with pesticides.
Mineral water has residues of pesticides.
So where is it coming from?
From the soil. The ground water.
Why? due to wrong or overuse of pesticides by farmers.
So in fact it does not have anything to do with Coke at all.
Banning coke is the short term solution.
Stopping the hard pollution is more important.
But the incredible arrogance of these giants has to stop.
My video review seeks make these brands really world class - to bring them to maintain the
international standard of the quality in India too.
Aamir, stop endorsing Coke – or atleast remove that hand from your heart while you swear by
its purity.
Nothing is pure anymore.
