On Thursday, June 9, 2011 around 9:30AM IST, ONE of the many servers on which MouthShut.com is hosted started to show signs of failure.

Around the same time we noticed a huge amount of traffic on all other servers hosting mouthshut.com
Our engineers quickly identified that an attempt is being made to de-stabilize mouthshut.com by some unknown, unidentified group of IP addresses. Thankfully we have a strong and robust firewall-driven security layer and this attempt was unsuccessful.

However, so strong was the attempt to bring down mouthshut.com, that we decided to shut-down servers and replace all our core firewall with brand-new state of the art firewalls. In this attempt, most of the engineers worked non-stop for 16 hours.

In the history of mouthshut.com (since 2000), this is only the second incident where your favorite website has been inaccessible for more than five minutes.

Happy to inform you that at around 9:30PM IST, mouthshut.com was up-and running once again, with
more robust servers and firewalls.

I want to personally thank you for all of you who wrote to me, called us and wrote to our support line inquiring when we would be up.

Our commitment to you and mouthshut.com is 100% and we will work hard to continue to earn your love and respect. Your love and support is what drives us to work everyday, 24X7. As I write this, the website is flying and speed is perfect.

Few hours ago we received an email along with a Mumbai Police order, from our SMS gateway provider requesting us and other corporate customers to desist from sending any "Bulk SMS" until midnight April 2, 2011.

Now what's "Bulk SMS" has not been defined but our SMS gateway provider clarified that "transactional sms" will still be allowed. Ahh, thank you!

At mouthshut.com we've NEVER sent out promotional sms or bulk sms. We have an SMS Review service that lets people post their opinions by sending their content to +919769 696967 This review gets posted on our website. It's a great service especially if you'd like to review a restaurant or a retail store, etc.

Our provider clarified that such transactional SMS are not banned they will " be making required changes at our end to ensure no promotional message is terminated to Mumbai numbers."

I have no idea what Mumbai Police will achieve from this ban...hopefully these are attempts to curb rumors and maintain peace.

Whoa! Finally! What amazing six weeks. Witnessed some lovely writing under the Diary section. It was tough, week on week, week on week to decide who would emerge on tops. Now you can easily check where your MouthShut_Official ID has been mentioned by any other member of MouthShut_Official.com. Whenever any member mentions your MouthShut_Official ID by using @ sign, it will be hyperlinked to your timeline and would also be visible to other members. You'll get more views to your profile.

Love this Diary
If you like a particular diary, do not hold back your emotions. Just click on ‘Love this diary’.

Search Diaries
Now, besides searching for products, reviews and members on MouthShut_Official.com. you can also search for Diaries / Blogs / Corporate Responses. All you have to do is search for a product first. Then on google custom search for products, a banner with a text box will be shown on top. You can enter the text which you want to search and click on search icon.

Edit Product Details
You can now edit details of products i.e. their Address, Phone number, Website, Landmark etc by just clicking on the link ‘Edit Product Details’ on ‘Read all Review’ page. This is particularly useful for products that are location based.

Send Details on Mobile
Wish to receive details of a particular product on your mobile? Just go to ‘Read Review’ page or ‘Read all Review’ page and click on ‘Send to Mobile’ and enter your mobile number.

Write Review / Diary without login
Now even a Guest User can write a Review / Diary. Just go to Write Review page of any product and write a review on it or go to Post Diary page and post a Diary. There is no need to login.

Distrust this member made more powerful
If you wish to block any member from doing any activity on the posts or reviews written by you, you can easily do so by adding the member in your Distrust List. This was a feature requested by many of you. If your distrust another member, he/she will not be able to comment on any of your post!

Hide feeds of a particular member
If you do not want to receive feeds from a particular member then you can easily hide that particular member’s feed.
ØJust go to 'Content Filters inside My Settings tab, type the MouthShut_Official ID of the member whose feeds you do not wish to receive.
ØIf you do not want to receive bulletins from a particular member, you can easily do this by hiding his MouthShut_Official ID.

Unread M2M Count
You can now easily come to know how many M2Ms are unread by you as the count will now be shown next to the blinking icon of M2M.

ØNow member can easily see past Review of the Day, Featured Diaries, Featured Mobile Messages by just visiting the Archived page.
