Umax have made some excellent scanners & the Astra 3400 is no exception. The 3400 connects to USB ports, is very easy to set up & use & is basically good value for money.
Some stats about the Astra 3400:
Price: about £49.99 or there abouts.
Software: Presto Pagemanager Deluxe, Vista Shuttle, Vista Scan & Vista Access. Adobe Photo Deluxe (PC & Mac versions). All of which are easy to install & easy to use.
Connection: USB (Power Lead & USB connection leads included.
Formats supported: PC & Mac.
Scanning Resolutions: 36 Bit True Colour, 9600 DPI
Quality of scans are usually very good & the software makes the use of the scanner that much easier. There's the beginner's option for novices who aren't confident about using their scanner & then there's the advanced option for the rest. Both options are very straight forward & produce great results.
For £49.99 you're getting a very good scanner for your money. The Astra 3400 is a new scanner in the Umax Astra range & will go from strength to strength in the homeuser market.
It's the easiest scanner I've used yet! There are cheaper scanners on the market, but I would be dubious about buying a cheap scanner.
Overall the Astra 3400 is a very good value scanner that will produce great results time & time again. It's reliable & comes from a great stable!
