Well its very difficult to review on such topics .how the hell can u put 20 songs from the millions of good songs? unfair? u bet!
NOTE- Many of the songs in this list r not my current fav songs. But i'm putting up this list not at the state of my current fav songs'coz they will change soon .Its keeping in mind what has been my fav all these years & what should be at the top. Infact I havnt heard a few of these songs since a long time. After all one cannot get stuck in music. Theres always some new song out there which hits u.
Riders Of The Storm - THE DOORS- one can differ on their fav doors song being Light My Fire or Roadhouse Blues or any other song but this is my fav. No matter how many times I listen to it I have never got bored of it.
Pull Me Under - DREAMTHEATER- This is Progressive Metal at its progressive best. Heavy Bassline, monstorous drumming by Mike Portnoy, the clean guitar intro and chorus are amazing. This is THE Modern rock Sound. This song keeps taking u higher & higher. & if u r blasting it in ur car stereo u wont know what hit U.
Sultans of Swing - DIRE STRAITS- If you dunno about this song & u r not in school then yu deserve to DIE . What makes Dire Straits so special is that they came out when the whole british Punk movement was going on at its peak. In a way Dire Straits can be seen as a direct response to the punk movement from the'older', 'wiser' generation - or maybe simply from the'quieter' generation, the kind of people who preferred not to vent their frustration in the open but instead let their feelings gush through in a more subtle, 'intelligent' manner. And it was musical nirvana. Sultan of Swings is a song Radio has still not being able to kill its overplay. That says a lot. This is a band which made lotsa gals realise what good music is all about.
Comfortably Numb - PINK FLOYD- Do I need to say anything about this anthem? . The lyrics, the long Gilmour cold & calculated lead makes it a classic rock anthem for any generation. There was a time I used to play it 10-20 times a day. Ofcourse those were the days spent on a diff orbit altogether.
Painkiller - JUDAS PRIEST - This is the best cleassic heavy metal song. If one doesnt love this song then he/she should forget metal. The intro is one of the best drumming intros ever. Its speed, its heavy sound, the vocals, everything about this song is so classic. If a band can make even 1 song so powerfull then they can be forgiven for never again making another good song.
Hangar 18 - MEGADETH- With its twisted riff and superb solo, it stands as one of the best thrash songs of all time and one MEGADETH's best ever. A masterpiece!HOLY WARS also is an equally menancing song.
Four Horsemen -METALLICA - This is my fav metallica'coz it was my fav metallica number for the longest period .almost a year. The lead still gives me a kick. This was RAW metallica when they hadnt seen the money which has screwed up their minds so much now. A milestone album in the history of metal-KILL'EM ALL. Pure aggression!
RUNNING DOWN A DREAM - TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS- Hard rocking Tom Petty is how I would describe this song. Unlike his bluesy, country, folk sound this song is pure rock'n roll at its best.
It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin'
trees flew by, me and Del were singin' little Runaway
I was flyin'
Yeah runnin down a dream
that never would come to me
workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
runnin' down a dream
I felt so good like anything was possible
I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
the last three days the rain was un-stoppable
it was always cold, no sunshine
Closer To The Heart - RUSH- Again this is the song which got me into RUSH. And it stayed for a long time as my fav rush song. Right now its DRIVEN & DREAMLINE. But if u wanna try RUSH try this song & TREES. I bet u'll buy the tape next day. BTW theres a best of rush tapoe out there in the music stores. If one wants to try RUSH buy that tape blindly. Its got all the best songs needed for someone to get hooked. I'm ofcourse on to the next phase.
Achilies LAst Stand -LED ZEPPLIN- One of the many LED ZEP epic songs. & this came at their later stages from the album PRESENCE. This song makes drumming, guitaring & vocals sound like its all coming from a single machine.SO PERFECT. The riff always reminds me of the sound of a full speed train somehow. Kashmir, Stairway to heaven, Battle of Evermore, Gallows Pole, When The Levee Breaks.Led ZEP has so many epic songs.
ESTRANGED- GUNS'n ROSES- A epic rock song from an eppic rock band with an epic music video. Theres not much to say about Estranged that u dont know already. And when we talk about estranged or November Rain one has to talk about the epic videos also. Choosing the best GnR song can also be tough'coz for me it has changed so many times with every song in Use your Illusions having been a fav at one time. But theres no doubt this is THE song of the album.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME- IRON MAIDEN- what vocals. what drumming.what basslines.what leads.WHATTA SONG. though I can put 10 maiden songs in this list & it was really difficult to chose one what with songs like AFRAID TO SHOOT STRANGERS, ACES HIGH, NOMAD, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, .the list goes on.
Season of the Abyss-SLAYER - here again my fav slayer song has changed quite a lot. But this is certainly a classic . The whole album rocked like madness.
COCAINE- ERIC CLAPTON- this is my fav clapton song.i wont say much about this guiter god.
ORGASMATRON- SEPULTURA - this is a cover song by SEP of Motorheads song which is also kick a$. But the SEP version is simply mindblowing.
BLACK SABBATH - a cruel & difficult task to select 1 sabbath song.So here I wont name any particularsong. U can pick ur fav . Seet Leaf, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Ironman, Paranoid.list goes on. And if one include the equally amazing solo albums of OZZY then .well what can I say?
GRABSPLATTER-DEEP PURPLE - this my fav deep purple song. Its a instrumental & one of the best ever. Then theres highway star & smoke on the water which do not make the list just'coz of its overplay everywhere.
TWIST OF FATE- MILLENIUM- yeah the b'lore band Millenium.the best thrash metal band of India. This songs been a fav since 3 years now apart from RAINMAKER & ONLY BE ONE. Whatta band.
WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME- U2- a great song.my other fav U2 numbers which I find equally good r .I still havnt found what I was looking for, Whos Honna Ride.
SUPERUNKNOWN- SOUNDGARDEN .a superb album.wish I could type superunknown like it is in the album .soundgarden is a better band than NIRVANA & lost out to all the hype Cobain got.
SMELLS LIKE A TEEN SPIRIT- NIRAVANA.havning said that I love nirvana too. But not as much as they r hyped.an extremely talented nuch of cool dudes no doubt.
TEN -the whole album -PEARL JAM.this is a classic album & unfortunately after this they went downhill.anyway songs like JEREMY r classics as I said.
