I discovered this new restaurant just a month back. I went to the local clinic for regular check up and blood test. I was feeling very hungry as I was fasting for the blood sugar test. So after finishing everything,I went to grab a bite at Salarpuria zone in Electronic City Phase 1,which is nearby. Earlier there was a Paranthawala restaurant, a branch of Mamaji. But now there was no sign of that, this new restaurant was standing at the place. It was around 10 30am,but the place was fully packed. From outside, the ambiance looked quite posh and comforting. I decided to try some appams.
The restaurant is even more cozy inside, with comfortable chairs and tables for 4. It's not big and one can see food being prepared in the shiny kitchen. Not only the property was new,but what to say,the owners of this place had, what you call, taste. It is nicely decorated and the fittings are all branded ones. I never found a Jaguar fitting in any nearby restaurant! Seeing all these just one question popped in my mind, will they be able to run this place this way??
Well, the service was somewhat slow on that day. It took quite a minute to catch the eye of the waiter. The menu of the day was mentioned on a white board,we ordered appam and nadan chicken curry. I preferred iddiyappam instead of appam as my hubby tasted it and decided it's not that good. The food arrived not very late and I just loved the gravy along with iddiyappam. A person was eating puttu and kadala curry next to us,we decided packing some for my mom. As the bill came,we couldn't believe our eyes, It was so less that we checked the bill few times before paying, aren't they really missing something? Well, the food was satisfying,we loved the taste and obviously the billing part. So decided to come back once again. Oh,forgot to mention, mom's puttu n curry turned to be awesome,I tasted it too and found it very good and spicy.
Our next visit was one Tuesday around dinner time. There was absolutely no place inside to sit and dine,we ordered for take away. This time we wanted to taste kerala parotta and veg kurma, the price came as another shock! Who serves kerela parotta at 12 rs. per piece and kurma at rs. 40?? Man,I'm gonna love this place! Our parcel was ready within 15 minutes, even though there was such a rush!!
We have visited this place many more times after this and have fallen in love with the taste. The best item of this place? Obviously the Kerala Parotta and Thalassery special chicken curry. There is a small problem, the quality doesn't remain same every time. If you find an average appam on one day,my advise is,go and try it for second time. We found it average on first day, next day it was excellent. We tried the chicken biryani, cooked with some small grained scented rice and found it awesome. But next day,it tasted like rice khichdi with chicken pieces!! There is an awesome pickle served with biryani,I don't know the ingredient but it's just mouth watering! Nowhere I saw biryani being served with pickles,so that's another new experience for me! If you are low on budget, take 2 appam and a portion of veg kurma, within Rs. 60 you will get a decent breakfast. The packaging is also very good here, appams never get stuck together as they place foils in between.
I will give Thalassery 4.5 out of 5, they need to improve their serving time and a more professional attitude towards customers. This is a good joint for authentic Kerela Cuisine,a must try for foodies in Electronic City.
