My favorite evergreen star, Ajay Devgn, is back as Jassi Randhawa after a long wait of 13 years. Directed by Vijay Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 is a return of Ajay Devgn to the big screen with a wonderful story and scenic locations across Punjab, Edinburgh, and other parts of England. However, I wasn't very convinced by the comedy, as it could have been much better.
What Worked:
Ajay Devgn's acting as Jassi Randhawa is the thing that worked in the movie. His acting has its own charm and swag that make it the perfect comeback. His comic timing and subtlety have something that goes unmatched.
The movie has also highlighted the tension between India and Pakistan with a twist that addresses the political tension between the two countries in a funny manner. Rabia (Mrinal Thakur), a Pakistani girl settled in the UK, going through the challenges of life with her family, has also acted impressively in the movie. I loved her costume in the overall movie that complemented the scene.
Apart from it, Deepak Dobriyal's acting as the beautiful woman, Gul, is a breath of fresh air in the movie. His portrayal is so convincing and remains unrecognisable throughout the movie. His perfect timing of comedy and the right emotion are the reasons behind my attraction to his character.
Other supporting casts like Ravi Kishan, Ashwini Kalsekar, Chunky Panday, Kubra Sait, Roshini Valia, Vindu Dara Singh, and Sanjay Mishra have also given a remarkable performance in the movie and justified their characters. Ravi Kishan's energy as a Punjabi and true patriot is really commendable. His love for the country and family is interesting.
Furthermore, the cinematography, background music, and editing are great. The scenes of Punjabi villages and England are really refreshing. Also, the background music is well composed to enhance the scenic energy to connect.
What hasn't worked:
Although the movie is good, I felt the lack of humour throughout the movie, as it could have been a romantic comedy, but lacked the ingredients. To put it in context, imagine being served butter paneer without butter. This is exactly what happened in the movie. Being a family entertainer, the movie lacks a good sense of humour. But certain scenes of the movie nailed it.
Final Verdict:
To conclude, I would say that Son of Sardaar 2 is a decent movie to watch in the theatres with your family. The acting of the cast, especially Ajay Devgan, will captivate you throughout the movie, but dont expect the good comedy that requires you to apply your mind and logic, as this is the area where the movie lags, but overall it's good, worth watching.
