MTR is short form of MAVALLI TIFFIN ROOMS which was started in 1924. The restaurant has long history and many VIP’s are huge fan of MTR. MTR was setup near Lalbagh fort and still the restaurant is running in the same place. If you want to try authentic Karnataka food, MTR, Lalbagh is the place to visit. Best thing to try is lunch because you get to taste all the items on the MTR menu like masala dosa, rava idly, sambar, sweets etc. You should learn “Patience” when you visit this historic place because everything will be sloooowwww from waiting time to food serving.
Now, let me provide my feedback on MTR, Indira nagar. This restaurant is located on 100 feet road and I visited this place quite a few times. They follow the tradition of old restaurant that means you have to be patience here as well. I will have lunch once a month and I have seen same kind of menu each I visit. As soon you enter, you have to give your name, get the food token(yes, you have to purchase first) and wait in line. One thing different from other restaurant is that, they will allow people only in batch, not individual group. In first floor, there are 15 tables and they will wait until all 20 tables done with their food and then only they allow new batch.
Typical menu will start with salad, kurma, beetroot sauteed dish, chutney, poori, ghee masala dosa, sambar rice, rice, sambar, rice, curd rice, sweet and fruit salad with ice-cream. I have eaten same menu for last few visits, still I love to go here atleast once a month. Please visit here without any expectation and you will enjoy the hot&tasty food.
One thing hate about this place is attitude of waiters. If you ask for anything they serve with arrogant attitude and MTR should educate customer service to them ASAP.
Overall I would rate 4/5 for food, 2/5 for service, 3/5 for ambience.
Tips: Restaurant opens lunch at 12:30 and please be here around 12:20 to avoid wait time.
