I come back from work. Tired. Jump into the shower and quickly get into something comfortable. I grab some leftover pizza from the fridge as the stomach’s churning. And I look at the clock. 9 PM.
*Tain, tain, tain** goes the KBC signature tune.
KBC’s begun. Whoa! Clap! Clap! Whistle, whistle! After a year long wait the quiz show that encourages avarice has returned. But the host has changed. It’s not **MAIN AMITABH BACHCHAN BOL RAHA HOON** but **MAIN(SRK) HOON NA**!
Gasp! How will he fit into the big man’s shoes? Will he? Won’t he! Sh! SRK’s here. Oh! But that’s a music video. What’s he doing with all the nangi-pungis, dancing to **karle karle ek sawwal karle?** Shee!
But heavens. He’s here. In suit and boot. **Saala SRK to sahib ban gaya**!
And the roller-coaster ride begins. You look for traces of awkwardness. There aren’t any. You look signs for megalomania – that’s best left for the interviews. Here SRK is **Khan Dost**. His famous repartees, one-liners, the dimpled smile are here on full display. SRK charm unfolds. But there’s more of it once he starts the real thing.
He massages contestants, ribs them, humors them, attempts their lingo, exhorts their wives to exclaim their love for hubby dearest. The atmosphere crackles. I crack up.
And yes, the quiz show goes on. Despite this. **BECAUSE OF THIS**. Maybe.
SRK is a superhost. No easy task stepping into Big B’s shoes and walking straight.
10 pm and I’m maha impressed.Tuesday morning
