The Event: Yesterday I planned a perfect action packed Sunday beginning with a long bike ride, 160 kms, going to a faraway place and have lunch in an unknown highway side dhaba, back to City, enter in a multiplex, enjoy a movie and at the end dinner in a newly opened joint.

The plan was materialized well till we entered the multiplex. There were not many options, it was a dry Friday, and the only movie where we can pass our time was Yamla Pagla Deewana (yes that was our expectation from the movie). So we decided to check the movie with the least expectation from it.

First half:

Location: Canada and Banaras

Story and Script: Below average, very ordinary

Music/Choreography: Mediocre, not bad

Action: Very good (after all it’s Sunny Deol’s movie)

Camera: Not bad

Editing: Poor

Acting: Sunny: Average, Dharmendra: Good, Bobby: Worst and boring, Sunny’s wife(unknown) and mother (Nafisa Ali): Very good, Kulraj Randhawa: Her beautiful dimple smile

Score: 1/5

Plot: The movie started with the family life of Sardarji Sunny with his Canadian wife who can speak a few Punjabi slangs, two sons, and a mother who was separated from her crook husband and stolen younger son and eager to meet them again to complete her family.

She asked her elder son to go to India and bring back her lost husband and son. Sunny arrived in Banaras and at once being cheated by her younger brother Bobby and loss 2000 Canadian dollars. Then he met the father-son duo Dharmendra and Bobby who were crooks and thugs.

Sunny’s muscle power impressed Bobby a lot and he insisted his father to add Sunny in the gang and add muscle and though at first Dharmendra rejected the idea (he knew Sunny’s identity) eventually agreed to keep him in the gang.

Bobby fell in love with a Punjabi girl, Shahiba who roams around Banaras taking snaps in short pants. When their love blooms enter the villains, the five brothers of the girl who took her away to Punjab.

That was the first half and I was eagerly waiting for the interval for the arrival of pop corns that could save me from this boredom called below average entertainer.

I was praying God how many more this kind of low graded comedy movies will be raining on us from the dreamland called Bollywood.

Second half:

Location: Punjab

Story and Script: Very good

Music/Choreography: Mediocre, not bad

Action: Very good (after all it’s Sunny Deols movie)

Camera: Not bad

Editing: Very Good

Acting: Sunny: Good, Dharmendra: Very good, Bobby: bad and boring, Sunny’s wife(unknown) and mother (Nafisa Ali): Very good, Kulraj Randhawa: Her beautiful dimple smile, Anupam Kher: Excellent , Mukul Dev: Excellent, Amit Mistry: Excellent.

Score: 4/5

Plot: Once I was feeling sleepy out of the long bike ride and most importantly with this below standard drama in front of my eyes, the second half started and believe me it was like I am now watching a different movie. As if the whole crew and staff has been changed including the director (Samir Karnik ).

It’s like the directors second birth. The second half was awesome and fast with some real comedy. Once the brothers reach Punjab and the family of the Shahiba took the center stage it was a laugh riot. Shahiba’s brothers only preferred NRIs for their sister and hence the Deol duo acted like Canadian NRI.

But they liked Sunny more and hence he was offered to marry Shahiba and Bobby accepted the idea as that was the only chance they still can stay there and he can elope with Shahiba. The rest was a roller coaster of events and laughter and after many twist and turns finally the boy gets the girl.

Anupam was excellent as the elder brother of Shahiba with his dummy pistol. Shahiba’s brothers with their inability to understand English and their wildness added flavor to the script. I especially liked the surprise element in the form of Mukul Dev who played as one of the brothers of Shahiba.

Sucheta Khanna was very good as Shahiba’s cousin sister Polli who eventually falls for Bobby making us to remember Mandira Bedi of DDLJ. It will be unfair if I don’t take Amit Mistry’s name here.

He was excellent with his small role, he was very hilarious. I really enjoyed the second half of the movie and came out of the theater with a smiling face.

Recommendation: Well if you are desperate like us with the habit of one movie per weekend you can definitely check that out, especially for the second half.

Overall Score: 3/5
