Hi Friends, How often do we play the game of a Cat and Mouse in our lives? We use to play it with people whom we try to ignore and in our regular routine we sometimes are forced to unwillingly play this game many a times with different individuals in various walks of life. There are many movies based on this cat and mouse game between individuals out of which I am selecting a brilliant movie for my review which perfectly reflects this theme and that movie is “The Fugitive

Making a serious movie based on a television series is always a tricky business but even more so when the show was highly successful and critically acclaimed. One way to assure success is to attach big star power to it. Not just any stars, but Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones.

The story of the movie goes as under:-

Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) and his wife, Helen (Sela Ward) seem to have it all while living in Chicago, until she is murdered. The police believe that Dr.Kimble killed her, and there is enough evidence to convict him, and a serious miscarriage of justice results in Dr.Kimble being on a train on his way to prison. But, there is a train accident which also involves a bus being hit, Dr.Kimble escapes, and he goes on a quest for his wife's true killer. He only knows the fact that the murderer is a one armed man with whom he had a struggled fight with while returning home after his wife was already murdered. But in the ensuing struggle the murderer manages to escape.Dr.Kimble doesn’t know the fact that the murderer had actually wanted to kill him, but as he was not present in the house, his wife got murdered instead.

The accident and the bus wreck that frees Kimble was a well orchestrated escape attempt by the hard-core criminal’s enroute with him. It is a very well done segment with the bus flipping repeatedly down a hill only to land across a railroad track.Dr. Kimble shows his compassion by saving one of the guards even as the train is bearing down unsuspectingly on the bus. The escape segment involving the train and the bus is very well done.

At the site of accident, enters Tommy Lee Jones, winner of an Academy Award for his portrayal of Marshal Sam Gerard. He patiently stands by while a local person wraps up his investigation. When evidence contradicts the conclusion of the investigation, he verbally explodes to several times his stature, shouting out facts about the rate of the speed of a human on foot, the amount of time passed and the need for road blocks and a door to door search of every inch of the area within that area.

Here begins the real cat and mouse game between the Doctor and the Marshal and in between their game there are various incidents happening quickly enough to give you a rush of your adrenaline. The action scenes between mature individuals are very well picturised to give you an original feeling about it.

There are some scenes where you have to put your brains in the closet like the scene disobeying all common sense where Dr.Kimble in spite of knowing that the police are quite close on his heels returns to Chicago to find the mystery killer. He is familiar with the hospitals and so has no qualms about impersonating maintenance personnel or walking in and through whatever area he needs to in search of clues. In another scene, Dr Kimble takes a dive several hundred feet down the side of a dam but appears uninjured by either the impact or the river ride afterwards.

At one point, while leaving a hospital, Kimble steals an ambulance. This is not the indiscriminate vehicle that will not be noticed and reported stolen for some period of time. Of course an ambulance does give more flash to a chase scene.

While in hiding, Kimble manages to meet Dr. Charles Nichols (Jeroen Krabbe) a friend/co-worker and asks for some money. Whatever the man gives him seems to be enough to not only sustain him for some time but also to rent a small apartment in Chicago and allow for several new changes of clothes. I suppose this is possible but highly improbable.

But then which director doesn’t take some cinematic liberties? and it is perfectly alright if it does not hinder the tempo of the film and here same is the case with this movie which is quite a thrilling one till the end.

Regarding the performances, Harrison Ford plays Dr.Kimble with a great depth of range and has given a mind boggling and a superlative performance. Tommy lee Jones as Marshal Gerard has given an uncanny and powerful performance. The other character actors have played their roles nicely but are be-littled in front of the two protagonists played by Ford and Jones. The end of the movie depicts the real suspense and drama in a convincing way that truly made this film a huge success story.

The movie flows very well all along, the stunts are spectacular and the characters are mostly believable. While watching the movie, you will certainly feel for Dr.Kimble and everything that he was willing to endure to clear his name and he succeeds in doing so in the end but not before unveiling the superb thrilling drama and suspense.

Surely this movie is a one time must watch for people who love seeing thrilling, dramatic and suspenseful movies with a pinch of action and “The Fugitive” is one of the best movie in the offering in this regard.
