Its been a while since I posted a review, been busy messing up my life a bit more here there and everywhere I go, I just mess up my Destiny a bit more so I can be at the middle of NOWHERE. So as the most infamous member of the ms family whom most wouldn't like to talk to, here I present a review on the movie that was released a month ago and that too because my life has been a lot like the character , it as my and his destiny that makes all the difference. Observing so much similarities in him and me and the lives we both lived and so I was compled to write a review on the same and the name was...
PAAN SINGH TOMAR.
The movie based on real life soldier turning himself into a brutal and daring dacoit better known as ''Baghi''. The movie had a long list of rave reviews dedicated to it and that too rating it above three and a half stars. Critics couldn't stop appreciating the way it was made, directed and picturised . What made the movie stand out of the crowd (which of course everybody promises you before the scheduled release) was a excellent star cast of Irfan Khan in the lead role as Paan Singh Tomar . The movie also boasts of an very good cinematography , background music and sensible editing. Before I lead my Friends into enlighment about this seasonal hit, let me first start it with plot.
PLOT: Paan Singh Tomar, a real life soldier in the Indian Army, an athlete who won a gold Medal and was a champion in the steeplechase in the fifties and sixties . A munchy by nature , he gets into the sports section just to eat as much as he could after he was denied food that was mouthful for him in the military section of the Indian Army . He starts to train a lot so he could eat a lot and in that way he becomes a athlete and that too an excellent one . Belonging to a Rajput Family of Tomar's , his Relative was a ''Baaghi'' and that truth stirred the minds of the superiors over him . Being very simple and focussed , he was constantly fooled and was forced to do things normally a soldier wouldn't do. Even from that he came out triumph only to irritate the people even more so. Its only human to be jeolous towards the winner.
After winning and making his country proud in many occasions in sports , he took premature retirement . A life with his family was his final dream , his beautiful and devoted wife , an ardent son and an old Mother . But Destiny had something else in store for him. After winning many hearts in the Army , he rejects the post of a coach only to settle the dispute between him and His long Distance relative Bhanwar singh. After the brutal attack on his son and his Old Mother Brutaly being beaten to death, he , Paan Singh Tomar, becomes a bandit , in better words , a ''BAAGHI''.
Why he became a bandit, why he kidnapped people and kept increasing his own army is to be seen , not read . What happens next and so forth in a better way ,you got to see this movie ASAP !
PERFORMANCE :Irrfan Khan as Paan Singh Tomar , Mahi Gill as his wife indira , Vipin Sharma as Major Masand , imraan Haasnee as matadeen Singh Tomar as his elder brother and a host of other character actors starred in this semi hit surprise hit movie. With budget of only eight crores , you couldnt ask for more but everything fell in the right place and voila , you have a winner here. Though it was Irrfan Khan who is the best so far , the Journalist reporter to the Zameendaar who thuged him to the Insensitive police. Every actor lived to their characters very well. The only person who could had done this very well is the Director Tigmanshu Dhulia and he really lived to the expectations of the makers. Fantastic !!!
CINEMATOGRAPHY : If the soul of the movie is the plot and the face is the performance by the actors, its the cinematography that is the body of the whole movie. The movie was picturized in the most splendid manner possible, from the frames taken for irrfan to the Kidnapped son and Father's arguments to the point where Paan Singh Tomar was Killed , everything was framed bit by bit in such a manner that the audience hardly gets irritated and gets hypnotised by the what it was shot. Well thought and well calculated Arts is what every well known artist is known for and cinematography is not less than canvas on screen. Well picturized is what this movie is and that too a soothing one . The cinematographer was quite apt of filming every mood.
EDITING :This movie being an real life story demanded the editing off the commercialized movie so that it would be taken seriously . The editing was very well thought of and frame by frame was able narrate the movie in a very non-filmi way that was enough to name this movie a Intelligent one to watch. Usually the editing in India is so frustrating that the audience rarely gets the time to observe what ever is happening and the change of frame or scene only adds to his confusion. This time it was nil.
Aah ! I had almost forgotten the mood setter of the movie , in fact in every movie...
MUSIC (Background) :plays a very important part and nothing will stir or chill until the music doesn't play. Abhishek Ray , though never heard of , sets the music in every situation very well. And it was very balanced and refined, something for every body. Non-musical movies are slowly making roads in the country like simultaneously released Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani. So what is left to the music Director is to set the feeling right and let the viewer get engrossed in such way that its the music setting the mood not the beverages or the lucky lady sitting next to him !
SUMMARY :The whole movie is a wonderful package and though I saw ''kahaani'' too, its was Paan Singh Tomar that I chose to write you about. The movie is a serious attempt to show the hindered part of our system who always forget the Real Heroes who made our country ...Proud. In return , the country doesn't have anything to offer except poverty and negligence of the deeds they did for us. The movie is superlative when it tries to show how much Paan Singh tried his best not to become a ''Baaghi'' only to become one later. With the onset corrupt police who force a common man to become a criminal and then ''murder'' them is not uncommon now a days. In whole the movie guarantees a lot of things to the viewer , Its interesting , its gripping and captivating , yeah you read that right , you cant leave it until you have seen it completely , It promise some real laughter from time to time specially when Irrfan shows his sarcastic innocence . Ooh ! And the romantic moments very well made with Mahi Gill . And the finale … his death , that was merciless and heart rending to be honest. A movie in your must watch lists. Should be !
