Megamind is the new 3D movie from "Dreamworks Animations" group. And like all other 3D movies, this one too boasts of an amazing 3D experience, however I watched it in 2D so, no visual treats for me.
Plot -
Megamind and Metroman are two aliens that are sent to earth, after their planets were destroyed. Metroman took on as the saviour of Earth, while Megamind, took over as the Evil super villain. After many attempts at killing Metroman, when he finally succeeded, he becomes bored without a hero to fight with. When, he decides to create a superhero from the DNA of Metroman, the strategy goes awefully wrong. Will Megamind succeed in creating a superhero? Will earth be able to survive from the evil plot of Megamind? In absence of Metroman, who would the Earth rely on, to save them from Evil? Watch Megamind to find out.
Cast -
Will Ferrel as "Megamind", Brad Pitt as "Metroman" and Tina Fey as "Roxanne Richie" are well suited for the characters. Jonah Hill as Hal. was average. (I never liked that guy, anyways! :)) Ben stiller as "Bernard" was ok.
Storywise, this one wasn't as great as the other installments from Dreamworks, like the KungFu Panda, Shrek Trilogy, How to train your Dragon, but nonetheless, it was a very clever plot.
The twists, like the way MegaMind spells the words all wrong, and His plans keep failing all the time. were all creative and brilliantly executed.
As with most of the animation movies, its success lies in creating a unique character that adds weight to the protagonist, as well as makes the movie, and the comic punches all the more exciting. Unfortunately, the character that had this responsibility here was "Minion" a fish that was sent along with MegaMind. Unlike the many amazing characters, like "toothless" in How to train your dragon, or "Donkey and Puss" in Shrek, Minion, wasnt as impressive as it could have been, and so we lack that extra bit of action and fun, that could have been added. Mind you it wasnt bad, it was just a tad short of awesome, as compared to the others sidekicks we have seen.
Overall -
Its a fun watch to take your kids to, but at the end, you long for that "happy-feeling" that you always get from an animation flick.Go for it, if you want to relax and have some fun with 3D, it wont dissapoint.
