Maari, written and directed by Balaji Mohan, probably seems like a painful reminder from a promising director and the ace actor, that too much of hope is a dangerous thing, after all.
After a couple of interesting quirky films, director Balaji Mohan gets his hands on a mainstream commercial genre with Maari. The trailer and the songs of the film had given it a huge expectation.
The plot isn’t very complex and it is meant to be a simple, yet exhilarating and entertaining ride for a commoner to sit back and spend his time and money worthwhile. Maari pretty much manages to do that but with a predictable plot.
Dhanush saves a very ordinary film, which with another actor or even a star wouldn't have worked as slightly as it does now. Robo Shankar is a revelation.
On the whole, Maari is sure to appeal to die-hard Dhanush fans. For others though, it’s strictly average entertainment.
