Getz GLE 2006 : Good car - refined. Review on Hyundai Getz

I bought my Getz GLE two months back. This is my first car and this the one in which I learned driving.

I was looking for a good small car..for weekend mainly..I wanted AC and Power steering .

After studying different aspects,test rides and going through reviews I finalized on Getz

Following are the cars I considered and my reason for not buying them

Alto - Too cramped for weekends...good for regular office goers though

Wagon R - With AC+PS - it was coming for some 3.8lks on road....didnt like way maruti fellows run the show. ...My wife and me were not much impressed with the box shaped design and the delivery van looks of this car...

Palio PS NV 1200cc - This is a very good car..rock solid and good comfort but low fuel efficiency...stopped us from finalising on this.

Santro - My wife liked but I rejected it for its looks, and the 1 ltr engine...though I always believe its one of the best car on road

and Finally Swift: I have done huge amount of research on these two cars Swift and Getz...Swift is definitely a wonder car from maruti...Three main areas where it beats Getz is 1)peppier/faster engine 2)fuel efficiency and 3)better value for money.

Getz on the other hand is more refined, smooth, minimum cabin noise level in its class, and definitetly provides a superier riding comfort..

Getz is as good as a sedan when you sit inside..you never feel you are riding a so called small car.

In EURO –NCAP safety rating both these cars have done very well at a four star rating.

So when I gave a final thought..i found I am compromising on the front power windows, radial/tyre size, and few other feature if I go for getz over swift.

But the real difference comes when you open the hood and take a close look at the engine..the build quality, the compactness and the practicality inside…

Getz engines + Gear Box are entirely imported from Hyundai korea…and are the same HYUNDAI 1.3 ALFA engines which Hyundai sells in Europe and Australia.

Swift under the hood gives a very old MARUTI feeling …almost the same a age old esteem engine.

Swift engines are entirely "Made for India" and "Made in India" . Overall the build quality of Getz is far better than swift…you can say that getz is the one for people who wants there car to last for atleast 10 years. So finally Quality and the refinement of Getz made me finalize on it

Pros : Comfort of a sedan, big and practical, strong and refined

Cons :

1. Fuel efficiency not as good as Swift,

   
   




2. GLE is fitted with a 155/80-R13 which is very small for a 1050kgs kerb weight car

   
   




3. A-Pillar obstructs drivers vision badly,

   
   

4.Hyundai should add power windows to this model..it’s a shame to drive a 4.7lk worth car without Power windows
