Lillian Too may today be better known as a Feng Shui expert but I feel the book which she wrote about ''How she made her 1st Million ?'' makes more interesting and better reading.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR FIRST MILLION - BY LILLIAN TOO
Lillian Too is the first Asian woman to become the CEO of a bank, Grindlays Dao Heng Bank in Hong Kong. She has put her success story in the most lucid manner in this highly inspirational book.
It comes forth as an extremely open minded book, giving an insight into the mind of a successful super woman. In her book, she has tried to explain the process of making that first million , breaking it down into easy-to-follow steps. Apart from advising the readers on forming the right mind set, Too has explained ways to tackle the teething problems, managing the expenses and handling various other “unpleasant realities of the business world”. She has stressed the significance of prioritizing which according to Too is expected to help one have a persistent and clear vision, aiding one to expand the mind and achieve more growth.
Too has explained her success in such an easy and practical manner that it could motivate any lay man, nay, woman, with just a creative idea to get into business, throwing all caution to wind. While putting across the basics of money management and managing risks in a lucid way, Too has urged the reader to have the courage to take the plunge and open the doors to change.
Too has mentioned very frankly that the “real leap towards becoming a millionaire” is by creating value. Too is most definitely the best person to give advice on this as she sold out the Dragon Steel Department Store and made more millions for herself. Her simple tip is that one can cash in more on the brand value created rather than buying and selling products. In today's era where consolidation is the buzzword and where mega mergers like AOL-Time Warner happen, Too’s stress on creating value seems very apt and timely.
You may have read a lot of such “motivational” books but what sets apart Too’s book is the way in which it has been presented. The book is a pleasure because she has made success sound so easy. More importantly, instead of dwelling on her own success or rather, on herself, Too has looked at her entire stretch of success very objectively , without getting mired in “I”, “Me” and “Myself” which is normally seen in such kind of books.
One disappointment is that though she has stressed the importance of creating value, she has devoted only one chapter to this aspect, leaving the readers thirst to know more unquenched.
Too is a world renowned practitioner of Feng Shui, the Chinese way of harnessing positive energy. As a “bonus” her book contains some tips on using Feng Shui for
one’s own success and also for the success of the business.
All in all, Too’s book is a pleasure and is a must read for those aspiring to touch the sky but do not know how. After reading her book, one may feel that making a million would be as easy as making a cake. Alas, sometimes, despite having the best of the ingredients in the exact proportions, a cake could go flat!
