I first discovered Dogpile by accident. At first, given the name, I thought it was a bit of a joke until I actually started using it. It basically returns results from many of the other main search engines all in one easy search which takes a lot of the work out of searching and enables you to find other sites which you may have missed had you just used one or a couple of search engines.
The best thing about dogpile, other than the large collection of search engines it utilises, is it's speed. For some great unexplained reason it manages to return results faster than many of the search engines it features manage when you use them individually!
All in all, why bother using anything else. There may be better combination search engines out there but, as yet, I haven't come across them. If you are serious about wanting to find research for a work project or a school assignment you really shouldn't be using anything else if you want the best results.
