What exactly is it about the combination of Hrithik and Dhoom2 that created such magic ? Haven’t we seen those intense gray eyes in Hrithik’s flicks before ? Haven’t we gasped over his unbelievable stunts before ? Haven’t we ‘oooohed’ and ‘aaahed’ over his mind-boggling dance steps ? Of course we have. KNPH, Lakshya, KMG, Krish… the list goes on. Then what makes Dhoom 2 different ?

The answer is : Mr. A.

Mr. A is every girl’s fantasy man come true.

-------------------------------------------------

The story of Dhoom 2 starts with cops grappling with an international thief called Mr. A who is impossible to catch. It ends exactly in the same way – but now the cops are comfortable with the fact that Mr. A has not been caught.

Mr. A (Hrithik Roshan) is a mysterious entity who literally falls from the sky right in the first scene. A master of disguise who whooshes in and out of the frames, leaving you gasping for more. He is elusive with a capital ‘E’. He keeps everyone around him guessing. He touches, lingers and then disappears again. A razor sharp mind, a Greek God like face, powerful and yet subtle, brilliant and yet reticent. Nothing is impossible for him. Show him an obstacle and he jumps / maneuvers / slides / twists around it. He is quicksilver, mercurial and keeps the adrenaline pumping.

Mr. A impresses.

And then he had to go and spoil it all by falling in love with someone called Sunehri (For God’s sake, why such a name ?). How I wish Mr. A had just carried on like a lone ranger, doing his own thing, following his own path. Well, he did not. So let’s talk about Sunheri.

Sunehri (Aishwarya Rai), the Ice maiden- turned-bronze maiden, who looks like she spent two grueling months in a gym-cum-spa, tries very hard to act cool with a lot of ‘like’s sprinkled in her sentences but then Aishwarya being Aishwarya, always looks like she is trying too hard.

Which brings us to the other lady in this movie - Shonali / Monali (Bipasha). Shonali was fantastic as the husky voiced, tall and lean lady cop. She was doing just fine. And she really sizzles in that lovely fiery orange dress in 'Touch me'. Then, post interval they did away with her and reintroduced her in a bimboesque version called Monali. Monali as a character was almost an insult to the thinking sexy woman that Bipasha is. Bipasha was wasted. Terribly wasted. How I wished she had been the lead opposite Mr. A. Now that would have been some pair !

Jai (Abhishek Bachchan), the good, clean cop remained just that. A good, clean cop. Sometimes frustrated because he could not get his hands on Mr. A. Sometimes not sure if he should get his hands on his colleague, Shonali Bose. So he remained empty handed and confused in most of the movie. The only time he looked excited about something was when he says “We’ll have fun, Mr. A.” So you see, it was Mr. A all the way. Not much scope for anyone else.

And don’t even ask about Ali (Uday Chopra). I don’t like this guy. (Don’t blame me – I had to sit through ‘Neil n Nikky’). He has a terrible, toothy grin which he insists on wearing whenever he faces the camera. In the scenes when he was making passes to the classy Shonali Bose, I felt almost physically sick. Why, oh why is he a must-have feature of all the ‘Dhoom’s ?

Now finally, is the movie good ? Yes, I liked it. It had the thrills, the songs, the stunts - all the works.

And of course, it has Mr. A.
