I have been reading DNA, from the day it was launched in Bangalore. I find that there is definitely a balance in their news coverage. its crisp, well written & with less'masala', unlike many other papers.
While definitely DNA cannot match up to the quality of'The Hindu', I feel that DNA scores over others with their catchy headlines, balanced editorials & good local news coverage.
Their headlines are undoubtedly the best. to quote a few of them, today' headline is "Advocates of stone age' which takes a direct dig at the arson that happened in B'lore yesterday in which they pelted stones all around.
When Dev Anand the legendary Indian actor passed away recently, the paper wrote "Romance is Dead". what a wonderful tribute by DNA to the great actor.
When Virat Kohli scored the unbelievable ton to cruize India to an amazing victory against Sri Lanka earlier this week, DNA's headlines(on the sports page) was "KOHLIVERI."
I wait every morning to view their headlines, most of the time I am not disappointed.
I feel that there is a gradual decline in the quality of news coverage, across newspapers, particularly with a so called India's No. 1 news paper. I hope DNA maintains & further improves its standards & also cuts down on advertisements & sleazy photographs of half covered men & women, which I am not sure is the best way to retain readers & attract new, young readers.
I recently read that in the next 20 years, newspapers will no longer be around, thanks to the internet revolution. If this has to be negated, the only way is to raise the bar through invigorating & good material.
Even to this day, 'The Hindu' is the gold standard in India when it comes to newspapers. I hope DNA will focus on news as the core element & continue its balanced coverage, without affiliations to any Political party, association or group, because we Indians need unbiased, balanced & eye opening content, in the true spirit of journalism.
