As a 15 year old, I started watching movies made by magician Bimal Roy.He was a person who could porteay deepest human emotions and could feel peed parai(Problems and pains of fellow-human beings.
All the movies dialgoues were the ones used by people. songs were very meaningful, music touched and very amazing performances by all of them
The movies like Parakh, Bandini, Madhumati, Sujata, Do Beegha Zamin, Devdas and the sweet sensitive Parineeta wonderfully preformed by Meena Kumari.
The stories are diverse, the picturization is different but the thread common in all of the movies is the touching and humane approach to the story. The strength of character which is possessed by not so powerful people.
In parakh, no one can forget the financial crunch faced by the postmaster, but still he and his daughter are not for using money which is meant to reach the best man in the village. MotiLal, sadhana and the hero(I don't know his name) have performed very well
Similarly all his films has the Indianness/humanness.
There's a memoire written by Gulzar sahab about Bimal Roy which is just wonderful called Bimal Da on Kumb mela. No words to express the sincerity, and hardwork of Bimal saab. That was the Golden era of Indian Cinema when really good stories were made.
I sincerely feel that film journalism should not only focus on which films would be hit on Box office and the business perspective. They should also focus on the quality of cinema being made where all the technicalities and the story, screenplay and direction should be considered.
