I just got one of this. Now I had read the bad review? on this before buying it. I also seriously considered the Onida Poison 29 Home Theatre which is 6K more but has SRS.
What is SRS 5.1?
The SRS Circle Surround system delivers full multi-channel 5.1 or 6.1 audio to home, car or cinema. It can be used to create surround sound content for radio and television broadcasts, feature films, DVDs and CDs.
The system encodes up to 6.1 channels of audio for transmission over standard stereo carriers, and maintains accurate steering and channel separation during decoding. Circle Surround encoded material is 100% compatible with all consumer matrix surround decoders. It is also mono and stereo compatible without decoding.
Some sports channels broadcast it in SRS. But Onida did not have a 5.1 decoder for digital DVD input so I did not get the theater version. The 2 extra speakers and PIP and few other functions were not worth 6K more since I wanted DVD 5.1 surround sound so I had to get an external 5.1 speaker system/decoder anyway. IE I need to get a 5.1 speaker system with a DVD player that has a built in DTS/Dolby decoder, which used to very expensive before. Around US$2000 for a decent one. So you can either get a DVD player with the decoder built in or am external decoder with the 5.1 speakers.
Now this TV is supposedly 1200Watts PMPO. You need to really check this out. Turning around and seeing a 2000W and then spinning and seeing a 3500Watts TV I was breathless and quite out of it. I only has a 250W Sansui 20 year old sound system. But even at half volume I can make the walls shake. I dont mean the windows. I mean a 250Watts sound system can make you feel the sound from the other side of the wall. And here I am looking at 3500 Watts in the face. The PMPO did not strike me since I had no idea what it was. My sound system speakers alone costs more than this 1200 Watt TV at the time.
Anyway, I took it home and well the sound aint that loud. There is a problem. The low volume, well there is no low volume. There does not seem to be a volume control on this thing. Just a tone control to reduce BASS/TREBLE/SUB Woof. At full volume it is enough for a small restaurant. Dont expect to feel the beat in your bones. Even the lowest volume where you can hear will disturb the neighbors. Which is what I mean by there does not seem to be any volume control. Maybe they are using real cheap speakers that need a lot of power to drive it. But to handle high power you need to use real big cheap speakers. Which sort of dont do anything with very low power input.
The thing is heavy. 45KG's. My old 32in I moved around myself in my car many times. But this one is twice as bulky and twice as heavy.
Oh yea... None of this things have SVHS input. My Phillips 21in has it. You need that to get a clearer DVD reception. They talk a lot about componet inputs. Now when I was in school, component outputs ment 3 wires for the components, my Pioneer DVD had component outputs for a TV mainly only Thoshiba has component inputs, NOT 2 for chroma and lumma (SVHS) or a bloddy 1 wire VIDEO/AUDIO input. Where do these people get off saying this?
Why you want to pay over 20K for a TV and not have SVHS inputs or any of the latest I mean lets get real here. My 15 year old 32in TV was cheaper and had it.
Well in short I had a real bad week with extreme mental over load. Lots of flashy words and stickers and all that but thats just it. Everything I knew got turned around and I feel bushwacked. So I will update the review later.
Think Indians are about to get amerikaozzed bad. That is where you get killed with flash and pomb and no substance.

Edit, Now that I have used this for a while.......
PS.. I have also got a major in Industrial Electronics and a second major in Computer systems so I have designed and written both hardware and software. So I am not a newbie. But this is the most complicated piece of remote control or TV I have ever used or worked with. I was mistaken that it does not have component inputs. It does. But what is weird is that if you also use the AV1 input the colors gets saturated since it seems they use the same circuit for both component in and AV1. This took a while to figure out. On top of that the DVD player needs a special mode to get into component out and my wife to test me turned that off and switched the TV into AV1 mode. This took me an hour to figure out why the screen was in black and white in component mode. To see how complicated this is, the TV has a sound only mode, but to get to it you need to do a SHIFT-button. Who would ever put such a function with 2 key presses? Most things are not explained in the manual properly. Even cheap Chinese products have much better manuals even if there are lots of grammatical and proper English errors. Just the Japanese manual disclaimer is larger than the entire Onida manual. Maybe Onida is environmental friendly and want to save trees.
I would not get the bass booster. Since the bass booster and the TV stand cost 6K more than the regular TV. Instead I would get a 5.1 channel external amp and speaker system. The reason being the SOUND control is non-existent. Either its too low or too high. IE the sound at level 7 is barely audible and at 8 is too loud. Max being like 30 so unless you are in a big house its useless. Especially in apartments. The dealer offered me the TV stand for 2K more so just get that if you want it and get a phillips 5.1 system with the 4K.
There are 2 pixel holes in the black mask at the edges on the left and right edges, I figure they used this to hold the mask inside the picture tube. But its tacky. You will never ever see such a defect in US or Japanese equipment or even European. I am sure the Tube is made in Korea or China and they did it to reduce cost in manufacturing. But its annoying to see light streaming out of the Black area at the border. Even if its just 1 pixel.
The TV over all looks very good. It could have been made a lot better with some minor fixes. Its not cheap since the Korean TV's were the same price or cheaper. Sansui is Japanese and its 3K cheaper. Sansui makes high end audio equipment. Much higher than Sony. Samsung is also cheaper and so are some other japanese ones like AKAI. The thing handles like a lead brick so lets see if it lasts like one.
Oh yea.. Dont bother going to their web site to find out anything. It was hell googling and finding absolute links to some stuff since the website direct was done by a retard who also did the manual and the remote functions.
