This is almost like the most cliched love story ever. Chetan Bhagat is hailed as the new face of the new Indian literary scene but his works remain quiet unimpressive to me. In this story a boy hailing from a typical Punjabi background falls in love with a South Indian Brahman girl and their story as they fight the odds of falling in love outside their communities, and families to be with each other.
Their story takes a turn when the girl, Ananya overhears Krishna trying to pacify his mother by telling her that "after they get married she will anyway live under you" this enrages Ananya and she walks out of his life pushing Krish into depression. It is later his alcoholic, abusive father that goes to sort out things between the two. I think Bhagat was hinting at change of heart and character here but well, the highlighting point in the book remains the stereotypes people have against each other and how its time tobreak through them. Its okay for onetime read but nothing more than that. It remains, just anither book, just another love story.
