Being a great music lover, I listen to all kinds of quality songs, especially from the Bollywood movies. Hence, I dedicate my 300th review on MS to songs of joys because being happy is very important in life. By making it a habit to remain happy and cheerful only we can face the challenges of life and allow our hurts and wounds to heal with time. The choice of songs is, quite naturally, my personal and hence this collection is bound to be subjective.
I have not included those songs in this review which have already been covered in my earlier song-based reviews.
Aai Hain Bahaaren Mite Zulm-o-Sitam (Ram Aur Shyam – 1967) : This is my numero uno joyous song of all times. Whenever I am in low spirits, I choose to listen to this song which always fills me with joy, enthusiasm and cheerfulness. Penned by Shakeel Badayuni and composed by Naushad, this song has been sung by Mohammed Rafi and chorus and picturized on Dilip Kumar, Baby Farida alongwith several child artists. This is a birthday song and the dance performed by the kids on this song is heart-conquering for the spectator.
Chhodo Sanam, Kaahe Ka Gham, Hanste Raho, Khilte Raho (Kudrat – 1981) : A foot tapping song soaked in frolic and frenzy. Kalpana Iyer has danced on this song whereas Vinod Khanna and Hema Malini have also performed. Kishore Kumar and Annette have sung it under the music direction of Pancham Da (R.D. Burman) whereas the lyric has come from the pen of Majrooh Sultaanpuri.
Kuchh To Hua Hai, Kuchh Ho Gaya Hai (Kal Ho Na Ho - 2003) : A delightful song signifying how the person reacts when something very pleasant happens quite unexpectedly in his / her life. I have experienced this thing and hence can relate to it. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio has composed very good music for this song whose beautiful lyric has been penned by Javed Akhtar. Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan have performed jovially on this song sung by Alka Yagnik and Shaan.
Shaam Suhaani Aayi Khushiyaan Ban Ke Pehli Baar (Zinda Dil - 1975) : A long forgotten and underrated song soaked in happiness on which the hot pair of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh have given a heart-winning performance. Mahendra Kapoor, Shailendra Singh and Lata Mangeshkar have sung it under the music direction of Laxmikant Pyarelaal whereas the words have been written by Varma Malik.
Aye Dil Mujhe Bata De, Tu Kis Pe Aa Gaya Hai (Bhai Bhai - 1956) : A hilarious song containing the enchanting voice of Geeta Dutt and the heart-conquering performance of Shyama. Madan Mohan has composed the lyric of Rajender Krishan.
Jhoom Jhoom Ke Naacho Aaj, Gaao Aaj, Gaao Khushi Ke Geet (Andaaz - 1949) : This song is a classic song of expression of joy but while listening to it carefully (and watching the scene in the movie), we can see that it contains the undercurrent of someone's pain also who has to forgo his grief in the joy of others. Dilip Kumar has performed on Mukesh’s voice (normally Mukesh’s voice was used for Raj Kapoor) and Naushad has composed Majrooh’s lyric.
Khushiyaan Hi Khushiyaan Hon Daaman Mein Jiske, Kyun Na Khushi Se Who Deewaana Ho Jaaye (Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Mann Bhaaye - 1977) : A popular delightful song sung by Yesudas, Hemlata and Bansi Sengupta for Prem Kishan, Shyamalee and Raameshwari in the movie. Lyricist as well as composer is Ravindra Jain.
Kisi Ne Apna Bana Ke Mujhko Muskuraana Sikha Diya (Patita - 1953) : Love is something that is able to fill any heart with joy and clear every particle of gloom from that. This song underscores this eternal truth. Usha Kiran has performed on Lata's voice. Shankar Jaikishan have composed Shailendra's lyric.
Diye Jalaayen Pyar Ke Chalo Isi Khushi Mein, Baras Bita Ke Aayi Hai Ye Shaam Zindagi Mein (Dharti Kahe Pukaar Ke - 1969) : An underrated and forgotten joyful song of Lata whose words have been penned by Majrooh, composition has been made by Laxmikant Pyarelaal and Nivedita has performed on it.
Koi Roko Na Deewaane Ko, Mann Machal Raha Kuchh Gaane Ko (Priyatama - 1977) : It’s a beautiful joyous song which has been written by Yogesh and composed by Rajesh Roshan. Composer’s brother Rakesh Roshan has performed brilliantly on the voice of Kishore Kumar.
Aye Ji Dil Par Hua Aisa Jaadu, Tabeeyat Machal Machal Gayi (Mr. & Mrs. 55 - 1955) : Another song declaring the joy produced by someone’s love for the singing person. Guru Dutt has performed on Rafi’s voice whereas has O.P. Nayyar has composed Majrooh’s lyric.
Mil Gaye Mil Gaye Aaj Mere Sanam, Aaj Mere Zameen Par Nahin Hain Kadam (Kanyadaan - 1969) : A happy song in Lata's voice with the performance of Aasha Parekh. Hasrat Jaipuri's lyric has been composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
Yeh Kaun Aaya, Roshan Ho Gayi Mehfil Kiske Naam Se (Saathi - 1968) : The heart sings when someone very close to it arrives on the scene and that's what this song tells. Sung by Lata for Simi Grewal, this lyric of Shakeel Badayuni has been composed by Naushad.
Kaun Aaya Ki Nigaahon Mein Chamak Jaag Uthi (Waqt - 1965) : Another song signifying the job that someone special's arrival creates for the singing person. Sung by Asha Bhonsle for Saadhana, this lyric of Saahir Ludhiyanvi has been composed by Ravi.
Din Hain Bahaar Ke, Tere Mere Ikraar Ke (Waqt - 1965) : This Asha Bhonsle-Mahendra Kapoor duet is a joyful song which I missed to include in my review of romantic songs and later, in my review of nature-based songs. Picturized on Sharmila Tagore and Shashi Kapoor is again a creation of Ravi-Saahir team.
Aha Aai Milan Ki Bela Dekho Aai, Ban Ke Phool Har Kali Muskuraai (Aai Milan Ki Bela - 1964) : A joyful duet of Rafi and Asha (with chorus) featuring the on screen performance of Rajendra Kumar and Saira Baanu (and others) whose lyric has been created by Shailendra and composition by Shankar Jaikishan.
Kal Kya Hoga, Kisko Pata, Yaaro Zindagi Ka Le Lo Mazaa (Kasme Vaade - 1978) : A jovial song sung by the composer - Pancham Da himself whose lyric has been written by Gulshan Baawra and Randhir Kapoor has performed on it. From another angle, this can be considered a philosophical song also.
Ga Ke Jiyo To Geet Hai Ye Zindagi, Ro Ke Jiyo To Rona Hai (Atithi - 1978) : A song of happiness which underscores a great philosophy of living too. Sung by Anuradha Paudwaal, Kanchan and Kishore Kumar and picturized on Shabaana Aazmi, Vidya Sinha and Shashi Kapoor; this lyric of Anjaan has been composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
Dhoom Mache Dhoom Aaj Ki Raina, Bhor Huye Tab Jaage Jawaani (Kaala Patthar - 1978) : I missed to cover this song in my review of night songs. It's a song full of happiness and frolic which Saahir has written and Rajesh Roshan has composed. Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Parveen Baabi, Neetu Singh (with Amitabh Bachchan also in the scene) have performed on the voices of Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, S.K. Mahan, Lata etc.
Koi Kahe, Kehta Rahe, Kitna Bhi Humko Diwana (Dil Chaahta Hai - 2001) : A joyful song which I love to listen to (and also watch) again and again. The way the singing of Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan and KK is memorable, the same way the on-screen performance of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna is memorable. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio has composed the tune for the lyric of Jaaved Akhtar.
