First of all , why did they choose such a title name for this movie , I may never understand . Anyways !
This one is directed by Scott Derrickson and is also a remake of the original movie , with the same name , released in 1951.
We all know that someday or the other , now in this context it would be better for me not to get into a controversy by involving Nastrodamus or Doomsday predictions , but its certain that human race , has to come to an end sooner or later....
We might see it in our age , or our children surely will . Now , the question arises as to why despite knowing the fact , we are unable to come to a solution and why are we ignoring the basic fact ? I guess , this is human nature to wait for the critical limit ( as said in the movie itself) and then do something to avoid the catastrophic , but will we get that second chance??
The movie revolves around the basic thought of Global Warming and its final result which is supposedly Extinction of the Human Species and the restart of the life from its initial form once again ... From India , Karakoram mountains , in some 40's a huge ball of light or other civilisation , as called in the movie , takes human DNA to produce life form which comes back to earth in our times as in today , which is played by Keanu Reeves.
He comes to earth along with a Robotic counterpart to destroy human race and save Earth . Now , the humans , how they convince him and beg for a last chance to improve and correct the losses done to the Planet Earth , is what is depicted in the movie.
I appreciate the way and the uniqueness of the thought in which the movie is made firstly , but I was highly disappointed to see the manner in which it was presented. There are so many loopholes in the movie that it seems countless to name , ofcourse with my perception.
Here are few,
An unidentified object is speeding towards the planet and its surpassing other constellations with a speed that its said to have a collision in just 78min time flat. I was offended to see what the NASA team was doing before that ? Or may be , the THING decided to put itself into the 5th gear just instantly , LOL !
When the object finally lands on eath , it chose to have a perfect place to land , in Central Park , oh , Whatta damn good pilot of that THING must be and how kind of him to have spared many lives by landing somewhere else ! I wonder why it did not choose a runway instead :)
The THING emits huge form of mist and fog , for a few minutes , I cleared my eyes if I was watching MIST or The Day The Earth........ It was indeed a bad presentation.
The first thing that comes out extends a hand to shake only with the actress and nobody else...wow! He knew where his partner was haaan ! Also it was so daring of her to stand there and wait for him to come , unlike other scientists who stepped back in prevention of what might come out of the fog, Bravo !
In the examination room , despite having a panel of doctors and scientists , only the actress is allowed the entry , why? The others went out for a "Foggy- Walk" may be .. Huh!
The whole sci- fi things seemed boring and repetitive and so were the dialogues , guess the director got so much into the making of those iron things that he forgot to give the characters some dialogues to deliver.
A very bad ending finally , the hero suddenly disappeared without even a warning and the audience was left in an obvilion , only to keep imagining as to what is happening and what will happen one day to all of us. Nice try !
I have till date seen many sci- fi movies , but I am sad to say that I did not expect Keanu to be a part of a not so perfect sci- fi this time. Gone are the Matrix days kya ????
*Keanu Reeves-** as Klattu . He is good , monotonous as his role demanded and did do justice to his role to an extent . But I wish he could have had given more speech and expressions... Come on man , when you are a human and you bleed , you can express and have emotions too , isnt it ?
*Jennifer Connelly** - as Dr. Helen Benson. She is good but again not much role and speech to say or deliver. She just flows with the movie. I guess the actors didnt have much to do in this flick .
Wouldnt even like to mention other stars as I think , nodbody had a role , even the leaders of the state choose to stay behind a set of a huge tele operating machine and did not come out , except for the huge THING and the robot , which came from nowhere and went back to somewhere.
All in all , a movie with a very nice message , as well as something which we have never seen before . The message tells us to change for our own selves and also reminds us that God might not give us this opportunity as shown, but for sometime , I felt that as soon as the director had the idea of this plot , he made it in a hurry , so as to prevent it from being leaked or copied by someone else.... I wish he could have had discussed it with someone and made it a fantastic movie instead , Sob Sob Sob !!!
