It is peculiar for consumers. We have to buy health insurance to fulfill the mandatory requirement. But what is the result? There are three type of cases
Mostly people do not file any claim. Hence the insurance companies get the benefit.
Only 10 t0 20% people file some sort of claim. Mostly these are denied based upon some reason or the other. peace loving people do not bother and keep quite. Once again the companies are benefited.
Around 3-4% of claims of minor nature are admitted are paid after much wait.
Remaining about 2 to 3% cases go to the court and get the claim as court award.
My these comments are based upon my dealings with Star Health, Religare, ICICI travel policy, General insurance and so on. Mostly after sale service in all the companies is nil, whatsoever may be the claim, from the company. However General insurance is much better than the others.
THUS WE CONCLUDE THAT DUE TO MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS WE HAVE TO GO FOR THIS INSURANCE BUT BYE AND LARGE WE INSURE THE COMPANIES AND NOT OUR SELVES. AFTER LOT OF HARASSMENT WE CAN HOPE TO GET OUR CLAIM REALISED IF AT ALL.
