Hope things are fine aroud you.
This is my review on my Samsung E1085 Guru mobile handset which I have been using for more than 2+ years. This was the first mobile phone gifted by my dad, so I have some sentiments on iy.
I have been using basic models of all brands of mobile phones. I started with LG RD 2030 with Reliance CDMA in 2003 (Antenna one with silver body). I moved on to Panasonic GD 75 ( a black antenna phone, big and heavy). Then a smaller and lighter Panasonic GD 30 in 2006, both second hand. GD 30 was with me till 2007 by when I had a FLY 2040L with camera and infra red (New one for Rs. 5k, bought in 2007) and a second hand Motorola C168, a lovely phone which I stil use despite the non functioning of its sound i.c.
Got a NOKIA 1200 in 2008 (New one) as my FLY flew away due to manufacture fault .
Coming back to my Samsung E1085, my father got me this phone when my NOKIA 1200 had a minor IC problem, in March / May 2010. The moment I opened the box, I was immensely happy to see the lovely cute piece inside.
LOOK : Stylish and slim enough, handy to handle and carry.
USER FRIENDLINESS : Good enough to use for any literate person.
SOUND QUALITY : Excellent
RECEPTION: Excellent
FEATURES : Good enough
BATTERY BACKUP: A 1 . I charge my mobile every monday ( Once in a week).
Now let me talk of some cons or demerits of this pience.
The mobile hangs when I am about to end a call. THe display shows as if the call is on and the timer pauses in the same stage and takes around a minute for the call to get ended. This impacts the charges for that call. I was using a BSNL per second plan prepaid. I end up paying for around a minute for which I wouldn't even have talked.
Apart from this there is no other faults with this piece.
Featurewise, they could have included Internet browsing facility, which is lacking in this pience. Even the older Samsung basic models had that. My Motorola C168 released in 2004 has Internet. A modern age phone lacking Internet is a drawback, but certainly not for me, as I do not freak on internet over mobile phone. I have BSNL broadband @ home and access to genuine internet @ office.
This piece I belive comes in 2 sub variants, one with FM and another (recentmost) without FM. I have a FM one as mine was bought in 2010. My father said he paid Rs. 1300.00 for that. ( He doesn't bargain any business lol !! )
I got another phone in 2011, same FM enabled Sam E1085 for my sister and this time I paid Rs. 1100.00 in Poorvika, Avadi, Chennai.
Then I was surprised when my colleague bought the same piece, but without FM and he had paid Rs. 1050 for that.
Overall, the phone is worthy what I've paid for, but for the hanging problem while disconnecting the call. The phone is a very nice one.
I missed to write about the repairs I've done on this. Somewhere aroud in December 2011 end, my phone got water locked ( I really don't know how , I conserve and protect my phone carefully in rains even when I get drenched up !! ). I thought of repairing it littl later and kept for a month or so. This was the mistake as the water entered corroded a lot of circuits.
When I took it to my known cell phone technician in NM Road, Choolaimedu, he said the circuits are almost gone and he did a complete service. His skills proved right and he was able to retrieve my mobile back in working condition on Febrauary 14th 2012. Till now its working fine. But he has warned me that he cannot guaranteee a life of this phone more than 5-6 months.
Finally the phone is execellent, value for money, durable, reliable and has an excellent battery backup.
I would surely recomment this phone to anyone who needs it to talk, message and listen to FM (if FM facility available).
Thanks and Regards
Kumar
