Watched this movie yesterday. I would like to add a word of caution to everyone who wants to watch this modern day Mahabharata. Don't go with high expectations. This movie is more for the masses. It is high time we have seen a bollywood movie with such a huge star cast shot completely in India and something that deals with India alone and language is just Hindi. So coming back to the story. The director has made every attempt to make this look like Mahabharata. I would say his over zealouness to be in sync with the epic actaully killed the climax as it was really far fetched and unwanted. But one good thing about the movie was the performance of star cast. Credit to the director for giving each one of them a good part without the audience getting a feeling of so many unnecessary characters. Coming to individual characters
Nasruddin Shah- Not much to mention. Very brief role. But good enough
Nana Patekar- Actually a supporting role. But throughout the movie his presence is felt. Nana has played the character with such subtelety that u barely notice him, but still after u come out the theatre his performance lingers
Ajay Devgan- As usual. Good performance. Felt could have been given more meaty party in the second half
Arjun Rampal- Convincing and a decent performance. He has done justice to his role
Katrina Kaif- Unnecessary hype I would say. Apart for the last 15 mins of the movie she appears a modern girl and her so called role is just a 20 second speech she delivers.
Ranbir's American GF- Good enough performance for whatever screen space she had
Manoj Bajpayee- Looks good and convincing except for the climax.
Ranbir Kapoor- Surprise Package. I couldn't believe this was the guy I saw in Saawariya. He has transformed himself to such an extent to play the role of Samar Pratap. His eyes told his thougths. His expressions were so convincing u were not sure whether u was seeing a hero or villian in him in this movie. Samar Pratap the modern Arjuna was played by Ranbir in such a good way we have to admit acting do run in Kapoor family and their new gen kid has arrived.
Some of the scenes I felt could have been avoided in the movie were
Scene between Bharathi( Modern Kunthi) and Sooraj( Modern Karna). This scene was overly sentimental and reminded u of B.R chopra's Mahabharatha. What a dialogue " Tum Mere Jesth Putr ho"
Love Making scene of Ranbir and American GF. Didn't feel this was needed for the story as such
Arjun Rampal going after the inspector and women activist.
Climax could have been made better
These glitches apart u can watch this movie once if u like serious type of movies with no item numbers fancy stunts and NRIs
