Jacobinte Swargarajayam
Vineeth Sreenivasan, just like his dad, is an all rounder. His latest film is based on a real life incident and its a family drama, something which he has not tried in the past.
Renji Panicker dons the title role of Jacob, and it is this character that carries the movie through the first half. Nivin Pauly plays Jerry, his son, and is seen playing second fiddle to him in the first half.Jacob is a self-made business man, based out of Dubai.
He portrays himself as an ideal husband and father. He is a doting husband and is more like a friend to his 4 children than a father. He is also very well respected among his office staff and is seen sharing business profits of with his employees. Lekshmi Ramakrishnan plays his wife Shirley. Sreenath Bhasi plays Abin, while newcomers Aima Sebastian and Stacen plays Ammu and Chris respectively
He is leading a perfect life, balancing his business and family life equally well. The story really picks up when the economic meltdown hits Dubai. Being an optimist and a true business man, it doesn't affect him. He is ready to invest by sourcing money from whoever is ready to trust him. His confidence leads him to his doom. He gets cheated by someone whom he had considered a brother. Soon he is bankrupts and people flock to his home for money he owes them.
This sudden change of fortune, his character comes a cropper. He decides to leave Dubai, to try his luck abroad and flies to Libya. He entrusts Jerry to look after the family. Jerry, who considers his father as his role model, suddenly felt alone in his absence and struggles to find a business deal to gather some money. Ebin, the hot-headed and frustrated son starts to show wayward behaviour as the crisis in the family deepens. In the end, Jerry is successful in his business ventures and is able to lead the family back to prosperity. The climax scene in which Jerry meets his dad after a long time is sweetly captured.
Renji Panicker does a decent job as the business baron. Nivin Pauly has not much to do. But his fans will make sure that they will throng the theatres for this. Vineeth Sreenivasan does a cameo in the second half as Jerry’s business partner, Yusuf Shah. Aju Varghese makes his presence felt, doing a cameo. He also assisted Vineeth in direction. Newcomer Ashwin Kumar who portrays the antagonist Murali Menon, impresses.
Jacobinte Swargarajayam is a mixed bag. Not entirely satisfying nor disappointing, but entertaining.
