If you thought thugs and goons are all stereotyped in rags and daggers concealed in long coats, think again. They could come in a phone call, probably dressed in a suit or tux and will call to tell you that your package is in customs and that you would have to pay a huge fine for your imported merchandise.even if its duty free and exempted from custom duty. Never mind that the package also has a valid import permit that was deliberately overlooked. This was all way back in 2002.
I instructed DHL (a Mr.Suri in Delhi) to pay customs duty for my package under protest and what I got was a photo copy of the Bill of entry, which is useless for claiming my customs duty. If original bills are not handed to the customer isn't that fraud? The reason they say was that it is DHL esoteric procedure that they cannot comply. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Several calls and letters to this Suri character went unanswered. Thugs Thugs all the way.
