HYPERTENSION: is the name synonym with High Blood Pressure. The normal limits of Systolic and Diastolic blood presure are 125/75 which in healthy adults can be 140/90 as ther upper limit.Any elevation / rise in Systolic blood pressure is High Blood Pressure clinically called YPERTENSION. There is some increase in these with advancing age.
Renal and Endocrine diseases cause High BP. Excluding these, t if the BP rises from other causes, which are unknown, then it is called Essential Hypertension. This is of two kinds-Benuign and Malignant.
Essential Hypertension:
- It is more common to women than men. The women suffere are more in the age from40 to 60. Men suffer severly and with complications.
2.Benign hypertension is unstable varying largely due to nervousness, emotion or exertions.
3.Mostly it is hereditory and other factors may also add to it.
4.Obesity always aggravates E.H.
5.Tough exact causes are not known but is normally related to renal problems.
KINDS OF E.H.:Essential Hypertension can be Benign or Malignant.
BENIGN:Cardio- vascular hypertrophy and areterial degenegration are the morbid anatomical changes. in H.T. Progressive narrowing of Arteries may lead to ischaemia of myocardium, brain and kidney.Initially the patient may complain of:
1.Morning headache, giddiness, nervousness, and palpitation.(more in Women)
Migraine type of heache on awakening in morning(Mostly men)
Breathlessness on exertion, blurring of vision, sudden blindness of one eye,
4.Hemiplegia due to cerebral haemorrhage or thrombosis.
5.Heart enlargement.
- Veins congestion causing retinal vein thrommbosis.
The B.E.H may cause following complications:
- Heart becomes hypertensive,
2.There may be fits and loss of consciousness, disturbance in vision or speech.
3.Cerebral Haemorrhage or thromosis.
MALIGNANT E. H.:This is normally found in men in the age group from 30 to 40 years. The benign E.H. turns malignant when serious diastolic H.T. is developed resultingin Renal failure which pursues a rapid downward course of death from Uraemia within a tyear unless suitable treatment has beenstarted in time.
CAUSES: Renal and Endocrine Disorders and toxaemia of pregnancy and coarctation of theaorta.
How To Know:Apart from the symptoms of Benign E.H. additional symptoms are:
- Nausea, vommitting, frontal or vertex headache(morning sickness/.migraine)
2.PulmonaryOdema with heavy coughand bloody sputum.
3.Rightheart shows signs of failure.
3.Too much rurine and thirst at night.
4.Transient paralytic attacks.
5.Anaemia with leucocytosis in bloodcount.
Cardio -vascular hypertrophy with severe BP above 220/120 .
Severe abdominal pain causing alarm and anxiety.
Inspiratory problems.
9.Defective vision, retinal haemorrhages, eyes blinded.
- Cerebral tumour, marked albuminaria.
The patient may live long life unless alarming symptoms appear. Death often follows from failure of left ventricle, cerebral haemorrhage and cardiac infarction.Uraemia doen not cause death.
PRECAUTIONS: 1. Ample physicaland mental rest and good sleep necessary.Avoid long and stressful exertive physical work. No heavy diets, fast foods, canned foods, no salt consumtion use light food, fruits and vegeatables to give about 2000 to 2500 calories. In obesity cases food be restricted to reduce weight to normacy. Alcohol, Tea, Cofee and Tobacco in any form must be avoided.
TREATMENT: In allopathy tablets are prescibed to keep the BP under control. The patient has to take these tablets daily and these tablets have their side effects too. Homeopathy provides safer, surer and bettr treatment fot H.T. The medicines are given according to symptoms of each patient
individually.Following medicines are capable of curing the patient if used under advice and supervision of a good homeopath:
